  1. I use a small French press, a kettle that’s programmed to start heating 5 minutes before my alarm goes off, a virtuoso grinder, and beans that I always forget what the hell they are when I’m shopping. Water is hot when I wake up, grind a scoop, pour the water, set the timer for 4 minutes, morning piss, put in my contacts, coffee is done. I own an aeropress but the French press is simpler and less hassle. There was a bag of Cuvée beans I liked a lot once but their damn packaging and product names make it hard to tell which bean is which. I hate the flavored ones, chocolate, berries, pecans, whatever... But I often buy them on accident thinking it’s something else. Recommend a roaster in Austin where I can buy coffee beans that just taste like coffee.
  2. That’s what i still carry. I hate big phones.
  3. I don't think I'd get a cross bike unless you are going to be entering cross races. Get a cheaper (or used) road bike for the road and a hard tail mountain bike for everything else. Trying to make one bike fit multiple roles just leaves you with a bike that does neither very well. Swapping out wheels and tires for different rides is a pain in the ass after a while too.
  4. Well, I don't want my jeans smelling like ballsack, taint sweat, and asshole.
  5. My 13 year old and I were entertained. I loved the book. Fun, quick, mindless reading. I'm not big into CGI superhero/sci-fi action movies, but I enjoyed this for what it is. Had I not read the book I doubt I'd have enjoyed the movie that much. I was a little surprised they changed every one of the clues for gates and keys. Would have liked to have seen ostriches and my son had just seen the movie with the lines referenced in the book a couple months ago so I was hoping that would still be a major clue he could figure out.
  6. JMT is also a bucket list item of mine. My older son and I will be hiking Philmont with the scouts in a couple summers. I don't want to do JMT until he can do it with me. I'm tentatively planning it for one of his high school summers so he can have the Philmont experience first.
  7. A Big Bend day trip seems like it wouldn't be worth it unless you just want to say you've been there. You can hardly get from one section of the park to another without driving an hour and back on top of the drive to and from Marfa. If you just want a good scenic hike or something you could find it locally. I like the hike from Davis Mountain State Park that brings you over the ridge to the lookout above Fort Davis (the actual Fort, not just the town). A guided horseback ride should be easy to find around any of the 3 towns too. Prude Ranch in Ft Davis is one.
  8. The Mercedes S-Class of trucks?! Fuck that. If you can't get in it with muddy shoes, if you cant bring yourself to toss a bunch of cinder blocks in the bed, and you need it so shiny you stress over paint scratches then you just shouldn't own a truck.
  9. I’ve never loved a wallet as much as this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B018W6US8W/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It doesn’t look as good as leather, but for and keeping things thin and minimalist it can’t be beat. I typically only carry three cards, DL, CC, debit card. Everything else is in traditional leather wallet that I keep in my truck. But I’ve carried as much as 7 or 8 in this just to test it out and even going from a lot of cards back down to a few it doesn’t stay stretched out or loose. It’s so much thinner than leather, it holds the cards tight enough, and is unnoticeable in my pocket. But if you want something classy looking this won’t be it.
  10. My girlfriend’s brother has DS, so I’m learning more about it. He is “low functioning”. He attended public school in Special Ed but he doesn’t communicate much. He can say a few words that the family can understand but he can’t have a full conversation with you. He’s had a rough go physically lately. He’s 34, has had multiple strokes, but they are not always apparent due to his lack of communication skills. That has caused complications. I have seen firsthand that he has a wonderful smile and that he is sweet and loving with his young niece and can be the brightest thing in the room with their family. The amount of work, sacrifice, and love that their family has put forth is awe-inspiring.
  11. Yeah, him being the most likely suspect and a sense that he probably did it isn’t enough for me. He may very well have killed her but I’d have let him walk if the trial was as described in the podcast.
  12. Nope. Nope. Nope. God that’s painful to read and watch. Luckily, in this case at least, shit like that will get him nowhere. I’ve tried to get a couple guys interviews that have very impressive resumes and a personal history with Southwest and the hiring team has told me each time it’s strictly up to the computer algorithm to sort out the resumes and decide which one to get interviews. There was some other jackwagon recently who showed up to an SWA job fair wearing a shirt, tie, jacket, and LUV boxer shorts. No pants. These idiots still think it’s Herb’s a little airline and that wacky shit will help them out. It has not been like that for a long time and from what I’ve seen it’s just as corporate as any other place up at headquarters. Boxer guy was allowed to stay but was not granted an interview. I bet this guy won’t be either.
  13. I wonder if dosage is a factor. I would assume so. My son recently was switched from a low dose of focalin to vayvanse but he has friends who I know take 3-4x his dosage. I second the positive effects. He failed the STAAR one year and then after beginning therapy and focalin he aced the STAAR and tested into every pre-AP class in middle school including math that’s 2 years ahead of his grade. Consistent honor roll now. This is after we worried he might need to be held back after 4th grade. Hes short, but he was short long before taking any meds.
  14. Lady Falconburghs (sp?) is a good bar in a basement somewhere on Main Street. There’s also glider rides from the grass strip on the way to Purgatory. As mentioned before the narrow gauge train ride is amazing and beautiful and WAY too fucking long. Once you get to Silverton it’s a Branson-ish tourist trap.
  15. I feel like RVing is deserving of its own thread but at this point any discussion on this board is good. No thread policing from me. I just been looking around at some little pop ups too. It’s just me and my 2 boys, we don’t need much.
  16. 1875 feet eh? Excellent use of resources there Hawking. Could’ve rented a Cessna 150 for $100 and gotten 4 or 5x higher for an hour.
  17. Who’s been out adventuring lately? I’m in early planning stages of a possible southwest road trip with my sons this summer. Two weeks... Palo Duro, Taos, Durango, Moab, the big Utah NPs, maybe the Grand Canyon. Some hiking, some mountain biking, lots of camping, a few hotels here and there. That’s all I got, just early plans. Who's been out lately? Bring on the pics.
  18. Never knew that. Pink’s Pizza also has an off-the-menu crew deal. A big slice and a drink for $4.99, I believe. Pappasitos also has some kind of cheap taco plate for crews too. Food at HOU pretty much sucks.
