  1. Same thing has happened at Everton with Ancelotti, but the turnaround has been even more dramatic. Coaching isn't quite everything - you still have to have talent on your roster - but it's huge. Good coaches can win with mediocre talent, but good talent rarely wins with poor coaching.
  2. I think this is true, but I'd go even farther and say, generally speaking, it's not in his makeup to be the guy with the ball in his hands with the game on the line. It looks to me like he's feeling the pressure of being one of the leaders of the team this year, when he was always more of a complimentary player in past seasons. There are some things he doesn't do well, but he's even been screwing up the things he does do well (like shooting FTs) from time to time.
  3. Tech was 5-4 in the Big 12 and (IIRC) on a three game losing streak at the mid point of the league schedule last year, and this year they're again 5-4 in the league after 9 games. That's all I was pointing out, but yes, the veteran leadership that team had (and this team doesn't) ultimately made a big difference in how the season played out last year from that point going forward.
  4. I wondered if Chris Beard might find motivation a little more challenging with 4 and 5 star players on his team: "Chris Beard on Texas Tech radio broadcast postgame, "We got some guys on this team that don't want to be coached...it's new to me." Later, "We got some guys out there that pick and choose which possessions to play defense. It doesn't work that way at this level." https://twitter.com/WreckEm_Red/status/1224911927916269569?s=20
  5. Tech didn't look all that much better at this point last year - which is not to say that I expect another Final 4 appearance this season.
  6. They weren't relevant then. That was just a year when the powers that be gave in to media and fan pressure to "give the little guy a chance".
  7. Not only are those TCU unis not one of the best of the year, they're actually one of the ugliest looks TCU has ever trotted out - and they've had a lot of stupid looking unis in recent years.
  8. The NBA is the one arena in American life where I would buy a "black on white racism" argument. Budding white superstars get treating like shit and disrespected by the whole league - or at least Dirk was and Luka is getting it now.
  9. So, Jett Duffey said he's grad transferring to Tulane, but it seems it fell through because his grades weren't good enough. Not sure I've ever heard of this before. Source: QB Jett Duffey not coming to Tulane; Texas Tech grad transfer denied academic admission
  10. Because this coming class is better doesn't mean the previous class wasn't outstanding. I'm not up all the star ratings and everything, but I'm pretty sure it was Tech's best class ever when they wrapped it up. That qualifies as "killing it" for my money. In fact, just landing Ramsey alone was "killing it". You look can just at a guy like Terrance Shannon. He's just one the guys on this team, but would stand out as one of the most talented players we've ever had in any past era of Tech basketball. Probably more to the point, though, is to say that this year's recruiting is a logical development that's built on our previous successes on the court and in recruiting, not some suspicious jump into elite recruiting that makes you think Beard has started cheating.
  11. They killed on the recruiting front last year as well.
  12. We put up 70+ on Nebraska once during the Leach era. You might be thinking of that one. We did however beat aggy 59-28 in '03 and 56-17 in '05 (both in Lubbock). That '05 game was our biggest ever margin of victory over aggy.
  13. That was after Leach's time at Tech. Typical aggy bullshit, though - that's for sure. They have a lot to answer for.
  14. I hate Baylor with a passion (like most here), but it would hard to argue that Rhule hasn't been the best HC hire by any Texas based P5 school in some time. Hopefully they'll fuck this next one up.
  15. Does he need to prove himself over a number of years and in the playoffs before we declare him an all-time great? yes Is he in any way comparable to Jeremy Lin? no
  16. How many triple doubles did Jeremy Lin put up in his NBA career?
  17. If I am understanding correctly, according to the OP and others here, if you follow an NFL team that doesn't look like it will win a championship anytime soon, you are a cuck or some such? Did I get that right?
  18. Still needs to lose that goofy shit around the collar and ends of the sleeves.
  19. Fire the fucking clapper and all the fucking various backup QBs working on the coaching staff, Jerruh. Fire em all.
  20. Yeah, I don't get this logic. Why does the OC get no credit in helping him improve? He was terrible under Kliff, the noted QB guru, started terrible under Yost but then became serviceable, partly because Yost simplified the offense for him. I just don't see how people look at all this and conclude that Duffey did it all on his own, or even that Yost "held him back".
  21. He earned the starting spot by being the only guy that vaguely resembles a D1 QB on the roster that didn't get injured?
