  1. Duffey transferring is not much of a shocker, considering that they wouldn't play him until they had no other options whatsoever.
  2. Said what would happen?
  3. Getting caught in a coaching transition can suck, but Jett made a lot of his own problems. If he had kept his nose clean and worked hard in practice, he could have been the starter for Tech as soon as Mahomes left.
  4. From RedRaiderSports.com: "Breaking: We confirmed that Texas Tech QB Jett Duffey is in the transfer portal. His name entered the portal this morning." I've figured all along our starter next year would be someone other than Bowman or Duffey, even if Jordan Love isn't coming.
  5. It's as much a rebuild as last year. I think the difference is that while this year's team is more talented player for player, last year the guys were more experienced and figured out their respective roles a little quicker and more easily.
  6. Phillies, Cardinals, Rangers, Mariners, Brewers, Cubs, White Sox have all worn powder blue at times in the past. It's not like it's a KC trademark.
  7. If the president of the USA can't speak in complete sentences, I guess that wouldn't be a problem for an NFL head coach either.
  8. I think I'm gonna stop watching the Cowboys and take up cutting myself.
  9. I've been a Cowboys fan my entire life, and I hate this fucking team.
  10. Didn't they also have all seniors starting on their offensive line?
  11. I'd like to them go back to the old school block T on the cap, instead of the faux traditional T they adopted when the Ballpark opened.
  12. I was in the Tech band from 1992-95, so in my time, I got one losing season with no bowl game, followed by getting crushed by OU in the Sun Bowl, followed by getting crushed by USC in the Cotton Bowl (the year we tied with most of the SWC for the league title but got the bid because we had never played in a Cotton Bowl), and then finally that win against Air Force. I can only assume the players took it upon themselves to win that one. I agree 100% about the bowl game thing with Spike. I understand he wanted it to be a reward for the players, but yeah, totally disrespectful to the fans. I've never been to a Tech game in person where people were that excited only to be as utterly humiliated and let down as they were in that '95 Cotton Bowl; the 2009 Cotton Bowl against Ole Miss was maybe the next closest thing to that experience but still not nearly as big a let down. The '95 game against UT in Austin where Tony Brackens famously obliterated our kicker on a fake was also a bad one to sit through, but spankings in big road games are something different than waiting weeks for a bowl game and traveling and all that only to have the team give up as of the opening kickoff.
  13. His results in his first two years admittedly were very Spike like, i.e. 7 wins and a bowl loss. I loved Spike, but he couldn't have cared less about winning bowl games. And yes, I'd take a 2000/2001 caliber season in a heartbeat at this point.
  14. As I recall, the peanut gallery consensus about Leach in his first couple of seasons was, "He's no better than Spike, and at least Spike was funny."
  15. OK, but 5 losing seasons out of 9 doesn't sound much better. Fans get on board when you win, and when you lose a lot they lose interest. It's pretty much universal. The only time I would call out any fanbase is if their team is winning and they still don't show up and make noise.
  16. He had one mediocre hire at Miami, and his one bad one at Tech was the guy that 99.99% of all people involved with Tech in capacity wanted as HC at the time. We have to wait and see what happens with Wells. Believe or not, there have been many successful head coaches that had a losing season at the start of their tenure at a particular school. There are two very good coaches in our league that are good examples of this, namely Campbell and Rhule. That hardly constitutes a pattern that would allow a rational person to conclude that "Hocutt can't hire football coaches". And, yes, Tubby Smith rescued Tech men's basketball from the dumpster fire that started with Pat Knight, not BCG.
  17. You could sort of draw this conclusion from the rest of what you wrote, but could it be that the difference between WVU's fan support versus Tech's in 2019 was that this is their first losing season since 2013 and only their second since Rich Rod's first year there in 2001, while we just suffered through our 6th losing season in 10 years?
  18. We can only rely on anecdotal info in this case, but I was reading the Tech Scout board regularly at the time, and I don't recall much talk about Beard before Tubby left. I'm not saying you're wrong either, but still, I'll maintain that the notion that "everyone" called Beard to Tech before it happened is a vast exaggeration. I don't think the average, i.e. non-message board perusing, non-dialed in, Tech fan could have even told you he was at UALR when he was there.
  19. I still think the bolded point is a bit of historical revisionism, but whatever. When he was hired, people were like, "oh yeah, he coached under Knight, makes sense". That's a little different than everyone calling it before it happened. Either way, though, to me, where Hocutt deserves credit with Beard was in not letting him go after last year when just about everyone outside of Lubbock expected he'd be off to greener pastures. And it's not like there weren't schools generally perceived as bigger programs weren't after him. It seemed very much like UCLA and Arkansas both wanted him and both certainly could have paid him as well or better than Tech ultimately did. Although baseball is smaller sport at the college level, the same is true with Tadlock. He could've easily moved to UT.
  20. I recall precisely 0 people calling for Beard to be hired at Tech before it happened. Tubby was also a great hire, by the way - one that was criticized intensely, until it was obvious that he was doing a great job. Can you remind me how many football coaches Hocutt has hired?
  21. Tech students have stayed away at the end of bad seasons under every Tech coach that has had them as long for as long I can remember, which goes back to early Spike Dykes days. If anything, I've been surprised how, for the most part, they stuck by the team all through 9 years of coaching failures leading up to this year.
  22. The wreckemred guy has been anti-Wells since day one. His blog also sucks.
  23. According to people on facebook who don't really know anything, there are rumors going around that Utah State senior QB Jordan Love might transfer to Tech as a grad transfer. He was the preseason MWC player of the year, but his numbers weren't as good this year as last year. Maybe his NFL stock sunk too far? I'd be for it, and either way, I've assumed along they'd look for a QB transfer to get through next year. I think Yost and Wells have done good work with Duffey, but it seems pretty clear he's not the guy they want.
