  1. David said any job at UT is better than any at Tech did he not? That's what I was responding to. As I recall, many on the old shag didn't think Tadlock's being a Tech alumnus wouldn't present any problems as far as hiring him away - and then it didn't happen.
  2. Then why couldn't UT hire Tim Tadlock away from Tech? UT baseball is far batter than UT basketball.
  3. I'm not getting the "Kliff could just step in as HC" thing. If Kliff had, say, won 8 games this year and hadn't got fired at Tech, does anyone think he would've been a likely HC candidate for USC in 2019?
  4. Firing a coach who had four losing seasons out of the last five and three in a row is a bad move in your estimation?
  5. He knows how to recruit to the wastelands. That's one reason why he got hired.
  6. The teams that you have indicated were underrated were not teams (with the possible exception of Baylor) anyone thought we beat even before we found out that they were underrated. My point, which is quite simple, is that our schedule didn't turn out to be as tough as expected.
  7. And we lost to all those teams, but we still could've won 7 games if Tech hadn't packed it in after losing to OU and UT. Most people were saying before the year that Tech might not win 4.
  8. Yeah, Ole Miss too. That one, along the K-State and Baylor games, were the losses that ultimately cost Kliff his job.
  9. Counting wins and losses is always an exercise in futility in college football, but particularly so 9 months in advance. Everyone thought Tech's 2018 schedule would be a killer, but turns out, it wasn't. OSU, TCU, K-State, even UH, were all overrated. I'll wait and see how 2019 plays out.
  10. I'm actually gonna agree with you this time, BF.
  11. Big splashes are a bit overrated, imo, as they last all of one off season and then the season starts and the coach either wins or loses. I think what people are failing to see is that Utah State is a lot like Tech, but on a smaller scale: relatively remote location, fewer resources than their competitors, underdog mentality, etc. Wells did a lot with little at USU, and that experience will serve him well in Lubbock. Not unlike Leach and Dykes, he has consistently coached low rated recruits into very good college players. He also grew up in a tiny town in Oklahoma, so there's not going be any culture shock for him.
  12. He's one made one hire for football at Tech (prior to Wells), and it was a guy that just about every Tech fan wanted. I wouldn't say that's failing miserably.
  13. Not exactly. Kliff was young and hungry, but also raw as hell, and even his most enthusiastic proponents admitted that had a to learn a lot on the job. Wells has already been a head coach for 6 years. (EDIT: El Diablo more or less said all this, but it bears repeating.)
  14. I always forget what an asshole he is. That look on his face when Lewis got the pick was priceless.
  15. He's not Sterlin Gilbert. You really think he's going to be in any less demand if Helton gets fired?
  16. That's good news. It's a good job for Kliff, and I was really hoping he'd go somewhere far away from the Big 12.
  17. I think the Rhule comparison is pretty apt. I hope Wells - if he gets hired, since that hasn't happened yet - is as successful. Sometimes the AD needs to make the best choice he can based on his research and interviews, and then just put that person in a position to succeed. Bowing to popular opinion is what got us Kliff.
  18. It's nice to see at least one person talking sense on this thread.
  19. Yeah, most Tech people are disappointed. That doesn't mean he can't win in Lubbock.
