  1. Well it's time to move Fried back to the bullpen.
  2. I know WHY I'm not supposed to like all the South American teams, but I also don't give a fuck. My rundown of my experience with South Americans: Brazilians - they were super cool because I think they were worried about looking bad because of all the negative press. We were staying on Copacabana Beach so that was a touristy as it gets which 100 percent contributed to the niceness. Argentines - They really weren't around Rio until before the final, but they swarmed upon the city. They were fine. We were all kinda burned out on partying by the Final. Chileans - Super cool. They really had fun the entire time and seemed just happy to be there. The only time things got dicey at night was the night before the Chile-Spain game when fans from both teams got a little heated and the bar we hung out at every night shut down early. Colombians - weirdly don't remember hanging out with many, but I went to the Colombia-Uruguay game and they were LOUD af. Uruguayans - Don't remember hanging out with many either, but one of our freelancers was from Uruguay and man oh man do they have a chip on their shoulder. He seriously thought it was a FIFA conspiracy to suspend Suarez for BITING SOMEONE.
  3. I'm an extremely white guy from Georgia. I have no dog in the fight. I spent six weeks in Rio during the 2014 World Cup and really enjoyed all of the people from South America while I was there. I root for the CONMEBOL teams against the UEFA teams in the World Cup. Sorry ::shrugs::
  4. No hate. I love all the South American teams.
  5. If Brazil wins their group and Argentina finishes 2nd in theirs they would meet in the Semifinals in the same stadium where Germany beat Brazil 7-1 and now I want that to happen more than anything.
  6. That was after an England PK was saved, so yeah it was a pretty on brand moment. Argentina's keeper has been great, but England got the breakthrough and are just much better.
  7. Is the dress shirt, tie, vest combo required uniform for all England managers now?
  8. beIN was utterly horrible at broadcasting soccer.
  9. Thanks, I was too lazy to look up who had the Spanish language (and linear TV) rights.
  10. Here are the FIFA rankings at the time of the Gold Cup and the worst team they played in that tournament along with the results. I cannot emphasize enough how bad Guyana is. 2017 USA 35, Nicaragua 105 USA 3-0 win 2015 USA 27, Cuba 107 USA 6-0 win 2013 USA 22, Belize 130 USA 6-1 win
  11. Didn't see a thread so I thought I'd start one up because the tournament gets underway tomorrow night. It should be fun. Brazil is hosting so there will certainly be a lot of anxiety there for the first tournament on home soil since the 2014 World Cup. Assuming they win their group, their semifinal game would be in the same stadium Germany whipped them in. Messi is back for Argentina trying once again to win a trophy with the Argentine senior team. They lost the last two finals to Chile in PKs. Uruguay, Colombia and Chile look to play the spoilers to the two more publicized teams. Group A - Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru Group B - Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Qatar (LMAOOOOOOOOOO) Group C - Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile, Japan Brazil opens the tournament with Bolivia tomorrow night at 7:30. We get an Argentina-Colombia banger out of the gates on Saturday. The tournament is on ESPN+. Should be fun.
  12. So the USWNT is 1st in the FIFA rankings and Thailand is 34th. The USMNT is 24th which is completely laughable and Guayana is 175th in the FIFA rankings and shouldn't even be in the Gold Cup. I would put the US somewhere in the 70s right now between Honduras and Canada among CONCACAF teams so they're still probably 100 spots better than Guayana and I still wonder how many full games they'd have to play to score 13 goals against them.
  13. Head into the Phillies series with a 1.5 game lead. Teheran has gone eight straight starts with one ER allowed or fewer but hasn't gone more than six innings in any of them. I have nicknamed him "Seis Bueno"
  14. Tons of credit for to Australia for the comeback. That goal before halftime changed the momentum
  15. Offside call is negated because the Brazilian player deliberately played the ball and headed it into her own net. That is WILD.
  16. Massive fuck up from the Brazilian keeper as a cross into the box gets by her and in and it's tied. This has been the most fun game of the tournament.
  17. Apparently that was the first group stage goal Brazil has allowed since 2003.
  18. Huge goal for Australia.
  19. Australia was a dark horse in the tournament and has sucked in the tournament. They can still get in to the knockout stage as a third place team, but they'd play France or Germany in the R16. Big time disappointment.
  20. Yeah, on the live look it looked like she tugged the arm, but she didn't. Ref got it right.
  21. First place Atlanta Braves
  22. I was just begging ANYONE to shoot first time. Every player would settle the ball and give the defender a chance to close. The PK France got was dicey.
  23. Spain has controlled possession in this game, but their finishing is shit. I haven't seen much to think they're going to be a huge problem for the US unless they can play keep away. Germany doesn't look overly impressive without Marozsan so if she's out long term that could make that half of the KO bracket fun.
  24. it was the woman doing play by play for the Spain-Germany game.
