  1. Very Newk performance tonight, didn't give up a run but couldn't get through five innings. Bats were hot and the Cubs were a mess. Nice to get a W in the home opener.
  2. The Braves worst start was 0-10 in 1988.
  3. I take comfort in expectations being met so it's extremely comforting to know the bullpen is as assy as we thought it was going to be...
  4. Yeah it's thoroughly deflating when AA said they were going to spend money and were going to be around the top 10 in payroll and their opening day payroll is actually lower than it was last year. I understand (to a degree) not throwing all kinds of money around but they need a fair amount of help in their pitching staff both starting and relief and with a lot of talent in the farm system to sit back and mostly do nothing is so frustrating. When you compound that with the fact that the revenues are through the roof but Liberty Media is funneling all revenue into real estate ventures and not the team it just makes it worse. The good news is it is possible to have a level of disgust with ownership, but love the players and this group gave us a lot to love last year so here's hoping they can make more magic!
  5. Glass Half Full Acuña is an absolute stud, Freddie's last two months were an anomaly, Donaldson is healthy, Ozzie can be more consistent, having Mac back and Markakis provides veteran leadership, Dansby and Inciarte are elite defenders, Camargo coming off the bench makes the bench better, there is a ton of talent in the starting pitching staff, Another year in the system will make Gausman betterm Darren O'Day will provide a steady arm for the bullpen, the players love Snitker and would run through a wall for him. Glass Half Empty The improvement of young players isn't always a linear upward trajectory, Freddie can be injury prone, Donaldson is 33 and hasn't been healthy in a couple of years, McCann and Markakis could be washed up, Inciarte and Swanson are way too inconsistent offensively, they have no starting pitcher they can trust, they don't have a closer they can trust, Snitker is one of the worst in-game managers in baseball. To me they're within a couple of games either way of .500. If things go right they're certainly contenders, but the fact that they didn't upgrade the pitching staff combined with Folty's injury concerns and the fact that everyone in the division but Miami got better leads me to believe they're going to take a step back but then again I thought they were going to be awful last year.
  6. If Chris Del Conte allows this shit to drag on another year it shows that the Athletic Department doesn't care about basketball. This is pathetic.
  7. I thought it was interesting that Texas is only in nine more brackets than Indiana, the last team in, but still has a higher average seeding than eight at large teams. A loss to Kansas is going to make Texas a significant wild card on selection Sunday.
  8. 10-man Colorado gets a 94th minute equalizer against Portland in a blizzard. Coldest kickoff temperature (18 degrees) in league history.
  9. I'm not sure how Herediano compares to other MLS teams, but man Pity Martinez looks good. He may be more skilled than Almiron with the ball at his feet, but he's not as fast which was Miggy's calling card. Barco looks reinvigorated. He roomed with Josef when they were training in California and apparently Josef was pushing him really hard every day and so far it looks to have paid off. I'm excited for the season. I'm coming down to Atlanta for the home opener and maybe the Orlando game in May.
  10. We''re currently 6th which means we'd have to beat the top 3 seeds in the conference to win the tournament so I don't think you have to worry about that.
  11. Honestly I think Coleman should've brought the ball up slower. He was going WAY too fast imo.
  12. Great debut for Miguel Almiron vs Huddersfield Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  13. People who use the term "SJWs" are insufferable.
  14. Pretty amazing how little anyone cares about nuance when the conversation is about Brady vs Montana when all last night proved was that Belichick is the greatest coach in football history. (Brady is the GOAT, by the way)
  15. NC State was ranked in the top 25 in men's basketball and scored 24 fucking points in a 40 minute game with a fuckin' shot clock but yes, lets dump on unranked women's basketball teams.
  16. Agreed with this assessment. Also reading more about the movie makes it way more problematic. They never consulted with Don Shirley's family at all and his family has characterized the relationship between them portrayed in the movie as bullshit. Don Shirley didn't consider Tony Lip his friend. They portray Tony Lip as the hero for changing his tune on black people and standing up for Don Shirley and completely glossing over the nuance of WHAT Don Shirley was trying to achieve with the concert tour. It all makes sense when you consider the movie was co-written by Tony Lip's son.
  17. I have two more of the Best Picture nominees to see. I can't pick a Best Picture between the two best I've seen so I'll just create categories: I'd be OK if it won Best Picture A Star Is Born Roma I don't think it should win, but would think it's cool if it did Black Panther I don't really know Vice Cancel Future Oscar Telecasts Forever If It Wins Bohemian Rhapsody Green Book
  18. Oh my god Green Book is such predictable, Oscar bait bullshit.
  19. Agree completely. Thought the kid who played the gay best friend was tremendous.
  20. Also, I guess jerking off in public is legal in Kansas.
  21. If he goes to the corner like he's supposed to, Vick goes with him. Two defenders went with Coleman off Febres' screen so if Snoop did what he was supposed to there Febres would've had a wide open look. As it happened, Snoop's brain fart allowed Vick to stay up top and get a good contest on Febres' shot.
