  1. England is the Texas A&M of international soccer.
  2. He said they're making Tunisia look like Costa Rica as if Tunisia is significantly better than Costa Rica when they're pretty much even.
  3. Tunisia is two spots ahead of Costa Rica in the FIFA rankings and 9 spots behind Costa Rica in the ELO rankings.
  4. You grew up in London and owe much of your soccer skill to playing with the English. Your father is of English descent. Look around our country, are you happy with how we are treating the English? Open your mind, stand for something & remember where you came from.
  5. The United States beat them 4-0 in the second to last qualifying game.
  6. De Bruyne isn't white. De Bruyne is clear.
  7. The interesting thing is that winning that group may not be the best path. Right now it looks like the winner of that group is going to get Brazil or Germany in the quarterfinal whereas when the group started it looked like the winner would get Brazil and the runner up Germany. Winning this group may not end up being ideal.
  8. I got into an argument years ago on Shaggy because I said KdB was the best player in the Bundesliga his last year there and feel super vindicated rn
  9. The keyboard solo in Jump is my shit.
  10. Who is this Michael Bradley?
  11. Panama sucks and it's total bullshit they're here. I look forward to Belgium massively underachieving here today.
  12. Right. 538 has a predictive model and picking the favorites to win each match, here are the odds they gave Spain and Portugal of beating the best possible opponents in each round Spain Uruguay - 70 France - 57 Brazil - 44 Portugal Uruguay - 58 France - 45 (LOL) Brazil - 34 Anyway, I think the Germany-Mexico result was great for Spain. It's going to be hard for Germany to win their group now and I think Spain's problems against Portugal were correctable mental mistakes they should improve upon going forward. 538 actually has them as the most likely team to win the World Cup now even though they'd be an underdog head to head with Brazil because Brazil is now on track to play Germany in the Round of 16.
  13. I'm not saying this is a likely outcome, but this possible HALF of the knockout stage bracket has gone from "no fucking way" to "wait, this could happen?" I think Spain still ends up winning Group B and have no idea what's going to happen with Argentina but it's going to be hard for Germany to win their group now.
  14. So fun things are happening with the Spanish national team. Lopetegui taking the Real Madrid job wasn't supposed to become public but players got wind of it and forced their hand. The Barcelona players on the national team are pissed, the cohesion of the team has been fucked and the new President of the federation wants to fire Lopetegui. Good times.
  15. It hurts and helps. A lot of the teams are actually putting an effort into running an academy system. It's a long way from being entirely fruitful and some are better than others, but it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully it will allow teams to identify young talent, give them some development and then move them on to Europe. The quality of play across the league has gotten better too, but that's relative to what it has been. The biggest drawback is that it provides a safe landing spot for USMNT players which is bad. Michael Bradley got sick of competing for a spot in Europe and came to Toronto and his play regressed and he's just one example.
  16. I'm a realist. I know they'll never take such drastic measures. Plus, with Jozy being 29 this Fall they'll give him games to try and catch Deuce and Donovan on the scoring list. The only guy I'd even give a look to who would be over 30 is Nagbe and that's only because he's been pretty damn good playing the holding midfielder for Atlanta United this year and it's a role he never played until now. I'd maybe try him out in that role in some low stakes games to see if there's anything there, but I'd be willing to cut bait quickly. Then again, I'm biased as an Atlanta fan.
  17. The USMNT player pool shouldn't include anybody that will be over 30 at the next World Cup.
  18. And Stinker costs them another game. Has a team 10 games over .500 ever fired a manager midseason before?
  19. Fuck nuts did it again, this time down 2 and Asdrubal Cabrera isn't Mookie but he's the Mets best hitter and the same thing happened. Thankfully Ender and Camargo bailed him out. This team is something man. This run has been fun.
  20. I've been so annoyed with how dumb our guys are on the base paths and then Acuna has to go one up all of them by maybe destroying his leg because he had to turn and signal safe to the umpire on an infield single rather than just running through the base.
  21. Stinker put Matt fuckin' Wisler in to face Mookie fuckin' Betts and he hit a game-sealing home run. Stinker should've been fired immediately.
  22. They scored five runs with two outs. Freeman saw four 2-strike pitches, Markakis saw two 2-strike pitches and Dansby saw four 2-strike pitches. Just a flat out gutsy win. (that said they need to go to a 4.5 man rotation and skip Teheran when they're at home)
