  2. We may have a consumption problem on our hands. It appears that Lemonhead (and perhaps Milk Dud) have been assaulted by rodents. I suspect that something may have actually climbed inside of Lemonhead, as his (formerly internal, thanks to my rusty hammer) "eyeball" has been pushed back outwardly. I suppose that this might be a relatively warm place for an animal to hole up, so it will be worth keeping an eye on this, especially once they get moved back to the Putrification Copse.
  3. Uh, you should probably stop objectifying the students.
  4. Every time I hear or read the word "citizen," it brings to mind the contrived story that Mr. Orange tells about the cops and the drug sniffing dog in the bathroom from Reservoir Dogs, which ends with one of the cops muttering "stu-pid fu-ckin' ci-ti-zen."
  5. I self-soothed in the shower today, and it was far from useless.
  6. How has this happened more than once? For years, I have had a similar photo as the picture for a friend's contact listing in my phone.

  8. It was extremely cold in Chicago, so we only went out trick or treating for about a half hour. He ran around between our house and a few different friends' houses all evening instead. But he had a big day at school - he won Bingo three times, but the highlight was when he found a chicken nugget outside on the ground at recess, and his first instinct was to pick it up and hurl it at the school (as one does, of course). It stuck to a second floor window, much to the delight of the other third grade boys. And the fact that it was still stuck to the window upon dismissal a few hours later had his classmates chanting his name like he was the hero in an '80s movie.
  9. Should have rocketed a potato at the backs of their heads.

  11. 3pm this afternoon. Was cold as shit here in Chicago all day. Doomlet elected to turn around and go home about 20 minutes into trick or treating. I didn't argue.
  12. Yeah, there's got to be some kind of behind the scenes beef or something within the Cobalt team right now.

  15. Am I the only one who absolutely hates The Monster Mash?
  16. This month's crop of noteworthy school computer search terms. Note that two of these were flagged and two were apparently acceptable.
  17. Doomlet likes birds, so we've decorated our yard for Halloween with a bird-related theme. We first put some of it together last weekend. We later learned that John J. Audubon was a real "product of his times" sonofabitch and that most local and state groups are taking his name off of their organization. So we nixed to Audubon shirt... And the bird-shaped gourd that the boy insisted we buy because it looks like a bird.
  18. As you all may recall, the contrast and detail is difficult to effectively photograph early on, but their true character will emerge with time and exposure. It's supposed to get down below freezing the next couple of nights here in Chicago, and we're expecting snow during trick or treating. Not sure whether the chill will hasten or retard the putrification process. A few shots of the whole gang and our bird tableau.
  19. The two that I don't think are good candidates for immortality are Skittle (the more round of the two) and Milk Dud (the one that looks a little like Marty Feldman). Fun fact #1: Milk Duds were so named because of their non-uniform and disappointing shape. Fun fact #2: Milk Duds are criminally underrated.
  20. The other likely immortal is Peanut M&M. These two came from our usual hookup.
  21. Today was Summoning Day. I think that I have two that are likely mortal, and two that may be eternal. This year's alpha gourd is Lemonhead. It will likely outlive us all.

  23. There's an Art Club forming at Doomlet's grade school, and the kids had to apply for consideration. His interest is art is inversely correlated with the outdoor temperature, so it's been on the back burner for a while, but in the winter, at least, he enjoys giving his drawings as gifts. Here's Doomlet's application - note how he had to insert a barrier between "of art" so it didn't appear to admissions committee that he had written the word "fart." And yes, it's beginning to look like he inherited my shitty handwriting. I was out of town at the time of his application, but apparently he had intended to create and submit "a beautiful sunrise over Walgreen's" (?!) but Mrs. Doom explained to him how that didn't really fit with the theme of his application, and how most people wouldn't necessarily be too enamored with (and more likely confused by) the depiction of a sunrise over a drugstore. In case it needs to be clarified, our family has no particular connection to or affinity for Walgreen's. So he submitted something more representative of his catalog and was accepted.
