  1. In listening to the republicans in this hearing, who am I supposed to be afraid of the most right now?  Democrats running liberal cities?  Antifa?  MS-13?  I am really confused as apparently all of the above are coming to kill me.  How can I go about my day posting on Surly with all of this danger lurking outside my door?

  2. Any Republican at this hearing: "Is it true that all of these DEMOCRATIC run cities will lead to the end of the United States of America, western civilization and the way of life as we know it and that immigrants and people of color will come to the good Republican held places and kill everybody while they sleep?"

Bill Barr (in his whiny voice):  " well that is definitely a possibility"

Any Republican at this hearing: "I cede my time back to the chair"

Fox News Ticker tonight:  "Attorney General agrees that Democratic run cities could lead to the murder of millions of innocent people throughout the United States"

Bil Barr admits the only sentencing he has intervened in his time as AG was for Roger Stone

Yeah, he said he intervened because he wants to make sure they are being fair to the defendant.  You would think if that is such a big concern of his he would have intervened a lot of times during his tenure especially when minority defendants were unfairly treated when it came to sentencing.  Its a strange coincidence that the only time he intervened in a case was when it was high profile, a friend of the President, about illegal behavior possibly involving the President.  A solid piece of shit this guy is.

  4. I really don't see a reason the Dems are even conducting hearings like this.  They get nothing out of it except taking the headlines away from Trump doing something stupid, illegal or both.  All you get with doing this deal with Barr is he gets to weasel his way out of every question, the Dems mostly point out facts but honestly many of them are very poor at getting their point across and the Republicans on the committee just spout out conspiracy theories and tell everyone how Trump has been unfairly treated.  Independents aren't watching this shit so you aren't really gaining votes but you are giving Fox and OAN talking points and video clips of Jim Jordan and Doug Collins spewing their bullshit.  The Dems should just stay away from these kind of high profile hearings for now and just keep passing legislation at least until after the election.  The only way these kind of hearings would benefit the Dems is if all the congressmen ceded their time and just let that lawyer from the impeachment hearings ask all the questions and grill Barr over his actions.  I also wish I could testify with Jim Jordan asking me a question about anything.  My response would be, no matter what the questions was, "I am just grateful I never looked the other way while college athletes were sexually assaulted (and smile at him while saying it)".  I would actually donate quite a bit to a Go Fund Me just to get any witness to do that to Jordan.

I’m guessing the lines that he is seeing that are a mile long are just people trying to get a Covid test and he is confused.

I so want to see that fat noodle arm fucko attempt to throw a baseball because you know the fail would be spectacular.

He would bounce the ball 30 feet before home plate and then claim that the speed gun clocked his throw at 95 miles per hour.  Guessing he would probably add that Stanton and Judge came up and told him they were happy he is not thinking of pitching in the Major Leagues because he would probably be the greatest pitcher in the history of the game.

That's not necessarily true.  Death per capita, yes and of course it makes sense considering main access points to the US and population density that the East Coast would get hit extremely hard in an initial wave scenario like COV.   We were woefully unprepared and caught flat footed as this region raced to figure out what to do.  They were really the unfortunate and sad guinea pigs.  Since then, 4 of the top 6 and 6 of the top 10 in cases per 100k are "red" states (7 of the top 11).  Hospitalizations is tough measure as many states didn't track the stat early and some states use different metrics so it's pretty difficult to discern.  Therefore, it's a difficult stat to use except as a lens in the current time frames to see capacity issues.

You are showing way to much logic and intelligence with the way you are looking at those stats.  Let’s just go with Republican President is great and saved millions of lives and the big, bad Democrats are the cause for all the deaths.  Occam”s Razor and whatnot.  Apparently someone’s sock in this thread believes what I just wrote.  Sad.

  8. In my mind Paul was the most successful by far and not just because of longevity.  Between Wings and his solo stuff he put out a ton of pop hits that stand up still today.  I would  put John second and Harrison 3rd with Ringo a distant 4th just like he was in The Beatles.  If you take Johns last album, Double Fantasy, and take out the Yoko stuff there are some incredible songs on that album (Watching the Wheels, Woman, Starting Over, Beautiful Boy to name a few).  Also, the best song any of them put out after The Beatles was Imagine by John in my humble opinion.

This.  They aren't just a death cult, they're a murder cult.

If it might help someone who hasn't contributed $1 million or better to their campaign, they categorically oppose it.  That's pretty much the entire thought process.

The entire Republican leadership makes the Mayor from Amity Island in Jaws look like a good, caring human being and all that guy cared about was "summer dollars" for the town and not the possible loss of life from a shark attack.  Trump and his minions are yelling at everybody to get in the water while a shark is feeding right in front of them and sadly about 40% of the people will willingly walk into the ocean because its better to have a few people die than have the souvenir stand and some ice cream shop go bankrupt.  Oh, and I would rather have Amity Mayor Larry Vaughn as my President right now because even with all the death he could rock a 1970's sport coat like no other.

Someone please explain to me what these politicians think is the political gain for demanding that schools reopen. The huge majority of people oppose it. I know that symbolizes "normal" but everyone knows that's not really the case. I get why Dotard is pushing it, but why are state leaders doing it, other then just sucking up to him? There is zero political gain, and tons to lose. Just crazy, imo.

It has nothing and I mean nothing to do with the mental or phyical health of the children of this country.  It’s all about the economy.  Trump can’t win the election without the economy getting back to normal.  Like Anastasis said above, many people can’t go back to work if they don’t have their kids getting “day care” (public school) so if there is no school, then millions of people can’t go to work and the economy continues to tank (except for the stock market because that is for the Uber rich to keep making their money).  What will be interesting is that many companies, like mine, have announced they will not open their offices until September at the earliest.  I have friends that work for companies that have said their offices will be shut the remainder of 2020.  Lastly, even if they make public schools open end of August or beginning of September andybody go the over/under on how many weeks until most of these schools are forced to go back to virtual because of students testing positive for Covid.  I give it 2 weeks.

  11. Just watched Harriet.  Thought it was really good.  It should be required viewing for high school kids in this country so they can get a realistic view of slavery and and also to learn about one of the strongest people this country has ever seen.

This is the result of Fox News and Right wing media.  The people that have watched that crap for years now truly believe if Biden is elected then the country will be destroyed.  You take a population of illiterate morons and feed them fear and hate for decades and this is what you get.  What is sad is the personalities/owners of these networks that have pushed this propaganda don’t really believe it.  They are just trying to make a lot of money and don’t care that the results have destroyed this country.  I am guessing Trump will retweet this video and say there were fine people on both sides.

And that's why the Dems need to be in full "send lawyers, guns, and money" mode.  We need to have emergency TROs ready to go to enjoin all of the regime's planned voter intimidation and interference activities from now till election day.

Pos Rep for the Warren Zevon call out.   I was hiding in Honduras,  I‘m a desperate man.  Send lawyers, guns and money.  The shit has hit the fan.  Describes many of us in our country right now to a tee.

So some right wing nut job writes an article that can be summed up in two sentences.

    1)  The Republicans realize they lost the suburban soccer mom vote to the Democrats so we need to do something to scare those people back to voting for Trump

    2)  If you elect Joe Biden he will move black and brown people to your comfortable "white" suburbs.

My Dad was getting assessed by a VA doc to possibly bump his disability, which could increase if a determination of dementia was confirmed. He had already had two docs diagnose it.

There came a part where they asked him what he had for breakfast, and without missing a beat he answered “eggs, bacon, toast, coffee.”

The doc looked over to me but I had no idea what he ate for breakfast. He was trying to show off how sharp he was by just making up shit. All the while, not realizing or remembering why he was actually there.

Its a good thing my dad wasnt running the country!

I have no idea who your dad is but actually it would be better if he was running the country than what we have now.  I am positive of that.

I can see Trump re-tweeting that saying something like,  "Feeble Fauci only got 3 stars where I got 5 stars, SAD!"

I am glad he is starting up the press conferences again.  I can't wait to hear what we are supposed to inject up our asses now to get rid of Corona Virus since bleach and UV rays didn't work.  I want one of the reporters to hold up the picture of the animals from his cognitive test and ask him to point to the one that is the elephant.

I think we should rename Fort Hood "Fort Jesus."   Wrap up the Christian and the Hispanic vote with one renaming.

So I am no military expert but would it be that bad to re name some of the bases after Generals or soldiers like Bradley, Patton, Eisenhower just to name some from WW2.  There may already be bases named after those people but there has to be plenty of soldiers, both black and white, that are more important than Robert E Lee or Bragg.  Fort Dix can stay because that one makes me laugh.

By the way I bet he missed at least 5 and they were afraid to tell him that so they told him he got a 100.  They probably put a gold star on his forehead when he left the room.

I hope so but we'll probably forget it by Tuesday.

Well by Tuesday we may have a new healthcare and immigration system per Trump in this interview.  I just watched it.  There is no way a normal person can watch that full interview and not say to yourself, “gee, that guy is insane”.  I love at the beginning when discussing the Corona virus and Trump said Fauci made lots of mistakes and Wallace mentioned that Trump himself made mistakes also like saying the virus would go away.  Instead of Trump admitting he was wrong about that he doubles down and said it will go away, someday, I wasn’t wrong.  That’s leadership right there.

  22. I personally think these lyrics are so bad that they are actually genius and I should add that this is one of my favorite songs ever.

  23. It was on here in Dallas.  I enjoyed as it brought some laughs but it was basically an ad for the Peacock streaming service and some of the new NBC shows this Fall.  That doesn’t offend me but that is basically what it was.  It was definitely nice seeing some of those characters again
