  1. Eh….not exactly pop…but wtf
  2. I remember seeing this on reverb….still there. Price dropped. It says a 2008 build year so it’s the renown generation made 100% USA, 7 ply NA Maple…..supposed to be die cast hoops. Only issue is it’s not really a rock sized kit with the 20 kick and only 14 floor. And this owner apparently swapped out the die cast for 302s it appears. But rare to see these at all https://reverb.com/item/66162994-rare-gretsch-renown-4-piece-blue-metal-20-10-12-14?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=17432840058&utm_content=campaignid=17432840058_adgroupid=134779414742_productpartitionid=1685491152711=merchantid=707384714_productid=66162994_keyword=_device=c_adposition=_matchtype=_creative=602628468407&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7PSQysnVgAMVVSvUAR2thwHsEAQYASABEgIgrfD_BwE
  3. Ok, interesting on those heads remo does for DW. Good info The situation with the snare is most often called “sympathetic snare buzz”…..the biggest culprit is usually that rack tom is tuned too close to a note that the snare is tuned to. Doesn’t mean they can’t be different frequencies but the note itself is too similar for the octave it’s in. You can tighten the snare wires with the micro adjustment knob on the throw off mechanism….but be careful because it’s very easy to take it too damn far and next thing you know you have a really choked snare wire. No good. You also will snap a snare wire prematurely as well. Some snare buzz is totally acceptable….but obviously you want it minimal. Other remedies could be flipping the snare over and loosen the 4 tuning rods immediately around the snare bed. Tighten the rods further away to compensate.
  4. Nice sidis! Are those dampening rings? Seems like a lot of tone killer
  5. Did you get it all setup!? In for full kit pics….
  6. Nice! That was a tiny like 25 person show for record executives Atlantic set up in Nashville. That cover photo they’re using for the vid is actually from the Midnight Special show…..Bon belting out Sin City.
  7. I like the high gloss piano black as well. The lacquer jobs by Gretsch are VERY deep like a fine multi stage paint job on a hot rod. In fact, if it does get minor scratched and/swirled over time you can polish it out with a mild auto polish and then seal with paint sealant or a carnuba wax topper. Good as new. Maybe better. The satin finishes or wraps….you’re basically screwed.
  8. Ya that’s the best demo vid by a drum shop of the classic maples I have come across, that’s why I posted it. They really captured the tuning, mic placement, etc to bring out of the best. It sounds very good
  9. Ya they’re something else, killer sonics
  10. I would not be overly concerned about USA vs overseas production. The only thing Ludwig makes in north carolina is the shell. The hardware is made overseas. Almost all the manufacturers (Ludwig, DW, Pearl, Tama, Gretsch, etc) use either China or Taiwan for many of their drums. For example, Yamaha has not made their drums in Japan since 2011 when they ended their shell arrangement with Sakae. They moved the entire operation over to Xiaoshan, China for the past 12 years. All the recording customs, absolute hybrid maples….made in China. High end stuff and highly reliable. The only Yamaha kit still made in Japan today is the PHX phoenix kit.
  11. No it’s not too bad…..and in the end, you really can create 2 unique sounds having multiple hoops. With the 302 hoops they’ll sound very much like Ludwig classic maple as that vid showed (or gretsch brooklyns)…..throw the die cast on it sounds very similar to a USA custom. Sometimes I experiment with a die cast on batter side and 302 reso side….and yup, another slightly different vibe about it. Fun to experiment
  12. 16” $200 (99 each hoop) 14” $180 (89 each hoops) 10 or 12 $140 (69 each hoop) Thats for genuine Gretsch….keep in mind they’re constantly sold out it seems…so it took me a while to get them all (I did 10 12 14 16) You could go aftermarket like Gibraltar maybe save a smidge…..but real Gretsch die cast can be used on most any brand drum and they’re highly sought after Kick drum wise there’s nothing to do….the RN2 kick drum will be perfect as is.
  13. Those are RN2s are fuckn great. But they do come with 302s and my set was not square as I posted before with pics…..I swapped them all out for gretsch die cast and it sounds even better. That is my only complaint after 1 year of ownership (hard to believe a yr has passed). Every piece of hardware and the shells themselves are immaculate. The roundness of the shells and bearing edges are incredibly accurate. Taiwan assembly to boot. Maybe my out of round 302 hoops were a rarity, others mileage might vary
  14. That’s an entry level tama kit and it would cost way more to ship all those pieces than what it’s worth. You’d definitely need to sell it within local radius on like reverb (pickup only option) OR you could just go down to your local Guitarcenter and sell it to them for whatever you get. Cymbals could be another story considering what you have….but if they’re entry level as well just deal with them locally as above
  15. Those are RN2s vs that Ludwig. Pre RN1 renown…7 ply NA maple us assembly, die cast RN1 7 ply NA maple, die cast, taiwan assembly RN2 7 ply “formula” maple, 302 hoops, taiwan assembly
  16. It’s a pre RN1 renown. 7 ply north american maple with die cast….the only thing unique on the 57 is that appearance
  17. That was just another option to consider. I’ve heard the vintage in person and I liked the sound better than a classic maple….but what’s important is what your daughter likes, not me. The other plus for the sonor to me is the uniqueness…..ludwig classic maples are pretty saturated. That sonor could set the band apart
  18. Yes, this price point sonor uses higher dollar components than a ludwig classic maple. Ludwig hardware is not an industry leader, not even close, that’s not what they’re known for. There’s a reason for the price difference.
  19. This sonor vintage would be a fine choice. I like those teardrop lugs and sonor is supposedly bullet proof as far as toughness. German beechwood. 3800 to the door brand new https://memphisdrumshop.com/sonor-vintage-series-drum-set-22-13-16-with-tom-mount-california-blue-vt-322wmcab
  20. Never was much of a LS fan….but I will on occasion bang on da bongos to this RCB song from 1980
  21. I came across this audix “quad” kit mint used for a steal so I was like why not give ‘‘em a try as a starter kit
  22. Badass, sidis! That is going to look great all set up together
  23. I forgot to post this on Monday regarding those bolt tights….but just a heads up if someone wants to try them….check one of your tension rods before ordering and see if it has a “captive” metal washer. If it does (and lots of manufacturers use those) then that’s an issue because you won’t be able to get the top leather washer on like the picture above. These will not work with only one (I tried). It only works if you sandwich the metallic washer. My gretsch rods were captive….I ordered new tension rods with non captive washers. Works perfectly and I’ve not felt compelled to retune in basically a week now of pounding. I run a “call to post” interval on the 4 toms so it sticks out like a sore thumb when it goes off….still sounding great!
