  1. I have a brass, chrome over aluminum, bronze and 2 maple snares now…..so I’ve been researching steel snares to possibly add one. I’ve listened to a ton of videos and hit a few in stores…..they sound great. They’re typically priced well below snares made of other materials. This Tama Rockstar steel is an example. This mofo sounds really good. They can be had used in very good condition for $99 or less! Talk about a bargain. Huge bang for buck. I’m eyeing this one…..how can you go wrong for $75? Lol https://www.ebay.com/itm/134571327638?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=134571327638&targetid=1529493989662&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9027837&poi=&campaignid=19851828444&mkgroupid=145880009174&rlsatarget=pla-1529493989662&abcId=9307249&merchantid=6296724&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpa_L--ik_wIVRZhMCh3GXwdYEAQYBSABEgJDDfD_BwE
  2. The yamaha brass snare came factory with the venerable coated ambassador….and it sounds badass with it. But I decided I’d try another batter head or 2 to see what it sounds like. I researched some head combos off youtube…and this one demo had a brass snare with a remo powerstroke3 coated and it sounded really good…so I ordered one. Oh shit….it sounded fuckn horrible no matter how I tuned it. Low, mid, high…..like a wet box. Maybe it records better than it sounds in person. Unbelievable, I should have just lit 20 bucks on fire. Off it went. So I went way out of the box, per a recommendation from the guys at DCP…..and ordered a Ludwig silver dot. These heads are spec’d off the old Ludwig formula and made by Remo. They are unusual with a crimped collar and no glue. I don’t play brushes so having no coating was not a big factor to me. So I slapped it on and holy shit, it is stoopid good on this snare. No matter where I tuned it. Coaxed a beautiful tone out of the shell. The higher G and A tunings are particularly awesome.
  3. That first one is a zildjian K custom ride…..I believe looking at the faded logo it’s a “dark” ride…..$125 is an absolutely smoking deal for that one
  4. Wow that 60 degree edge must produce an incredibly sharp attack…..those actually look very scary as far as getting nicked or damaged
  5. Well shit…maybe that is horizontal reference?! I flunked geometry lol
  6. I would think it’s measured from the vertical plane….at least looking at pics of some of my drums (I have a yamaha tour custom maple snare with a 45 degree for comparison)
  7. No shit?! Ya that’s unfortunate and surprising…..but this music business is really crowded with retailers.
  8. I think they offer bundle configurations at times and a snare could be included. When I bought my burnt orange sparkle renown kit the matching snare was not included….but I called Sweetwater directly and they offered me a smoking deal with the snare (and the 10” rack tom as well). Performance wise, you will not be disappointed…..but having said that, I could see someone omitting it and possibly getting another snare all together….say something of a metallic shell flavor. There’s really not a right or wrong answer.
  9. Ya gretsch uses a 30 degree bearing angle vs most other manufacturers using 45 degrees…..the 30 degree supposedly creates a softer initial attack and a warmer sound. I have the 14x6.5 renown rn2 snare in burnt orange and it’s a great, solid sounding maple snare.
  10. https://memphisdrumshop.com/used-sabian-21-aax-raw-bell-dry-ride-cymbal-u22172x-1031018qq great ride. no sales tax texas free shipping
  11. Ya that DW is sweet Heres a good looking vintage with snare for what seems like a smoking deal….depending on how bad the damage is on used kit shipping https://www.drumcenternh.com/used-ludwig-keystone-4pc-drum-set-power-beat-champagne-sparkle-usd-050823jt-2
  12. Quick look thru DCP for used cymbals…..meh. Not really much jumping out at me. Crash n ride TBD
  13. https://www.drumcenternh.com/yamaha-dbl-braced-hw-pk-cs-665a-cs-665a-hs-650wa-ss-650wa-fp-7210a Yamaha good stuff. Includes kick pedal
  14. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Paiste/14in-2002-Sound-Edge-Pair-Cymbal.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsra744SU_wIV-kR_AB1V6AwIEAQYAyABEgKRkfD_BwE incedible deal…..I’m a total sucker for the 14” sound edge hats. The best to my ear
  15. Sidis, I have to go start the pit….but I’m going to link some used cymbals, snares and new hardware after while
  16. For sure. I have renowns and I’m very happy….but if you could stretch the budget just past 3k I’d be all over that DCP starclassic exclusive. I love that finish and those drums are very nice to the ear…..
  17. That renown kit in the cherry burst includes matching snare Those Yamaha tour customs are very good in person. There’s good reason why they’re usually sold out and never on sale
  18. https://www.drumcenternh.com/tama-starclassic-walnut-birch-4pc-drum-set-w-22bd-lacquered-charcoal-oyster-dcp-exclusive-wbs42bnslco https://www.drumcenternh.com/gretsch-renown-euro-5pc-drum-set-cherry-burst https://www.drumcenternh.com/yamaha-tour-custom-maple-4pc-drum-set-22-10-12-16-chocolate-satin
  19. Either one of those are nice. That particular session kit has a 24” kick…..that’s a big dawg! Might want to stick with 22” or smaller but that’s totally an individual taste. That DW on the flip side is intriguing with that 20x12 kick….really nice n tidy size!
  20. I dont believe so because the export is still offered. It appears a step under the session with the shell construction….session is birch/mahogany and the export is poplar/mahogany. I’d probably suggest sidis stick with the session or higher if going Pearl. There are probably some hoop and hardware differences as well…but that shell material difference is significant right off the bat
  21. No problem, sidis….I’d be more than happy to help spend your money. I have not personally played that Pearl session set….but on paper the specs look great and I’m sure in person it would sound excellent and be solid quality. Now, I don’t believe it includes a snare and the kit is going to use 2300 of your budget (before any discounts of course)…..so you might need to look used for a snare and cymbals. I’d probably recommend hardware be brand new IMO….but a used snare and used cymbals from reputable companies should be absolutely considered. Other drum kits NEW in that range would Tama starclassic, DW design, Gretsch renown. Used could open up another array of kits….but buying used sight unseen is scary with wood bearing edges and just overall truthfulness about condition. Definitely a possibility tho. Let me see what I come across and I’ll post up links….
  22. Drumcenter Portsmouth has a special this weekend….15% off entire order. DCP1415 code. I’ve had great luck with these guys. Free shipping and no Texas sales tax. I’m sure there’s a shitload of fine print exclusions lol…..but it worked on the meinl sticks and Ludwig drumhead I bought today.
  23. This is a full range demo of the 1365. This sonor 13” had my attention too. I seriously considered it. The 13x7 Kompressor
