  1. Yamaha makes a 1465 in this exact brass snare….i actually demo’d it back to back with the 1365. With both tuned to relatively the same fundamental, the 13’s overtones were slightly higher pitched, a little bit brighter ring. The 14’s accentuated more mid range. I thought playing both surfaces, I actually enjoyed the rebound off the 13 more…..but I’m splitting hairs because both are excellent snares. Yamaha actually has a heluva lineup within that RC series. The aluminum and steel models are also really killer sounding and worth checking out. All of the models are designed in coordination with Steve Gadd I believe
  2. I picked up this yamaha recording custom 13x6.5 recently and damn…..it’s badass! It’s a 1.2mm brass shell, 2.3 dynahoops, 8 lug, and a really smooth q type strainer. First 13” snare I’ve had and I like it a lot…a little more room to run the double pedals. The sound is classic…very similar to a 70s/80s black beauty. Lots of musical overtones and big time crack if you lay into it.
  3. Oh my….more of the die cast arrived. The 16 n 14 reso sides and the 10 batter side. Sounds great. Very similar to the usa custom kits I’ve played. Glad to have those wavy 302s off and boxed up. Good riddance
  4. She would be absolutely thrilled with it. It’s definitely a long term keeper, I don’t see her ever parting ways with it. I really like the demo of that 1545 gram….but ultimately I chose the 1529. They are probably indistinguishable in person and Paiste is known for consistency cymbal to cymbal, even with a few grams difference But….Handcruser has a lot of nice cymbals there! You never know. Gotdayum I LOVE drums AND cymbals……especially sparkly ones lol
  5. The 19” is $310 to the door (if you live in Texas…no sales tax) Memphisdrum has one left, it’s a 1545 gram. https://memphisdrumshop.com/paiste-19-giant-beat-multifunctional-cymbal-1545g-1018519-1112121h
  6. I suppose it is lol….but damn it reacts fast! It wants to open up faster than the thin 18 Here’s the demo vid of it
  7. Picked up a new cymbal, this is a 19” giant beat “multi-function” 1529 grams. It’s designed to be a ride too…but my goodness, what a crash! Fantastic classic sound. I have had an 18” giant beat “thin” 1204 grams for a few years, and it’s very nice and still in my lineup….but damn, this 19” multi is off the charts. Cannot recommended this enough if you’re looking for a large crash.

    Mammoth WVH

Personally, I like it. I believe he’s pretty damn talented. I also appreciate the fact he’s forging his own identity and not trying to be the second coming of VH….which would have definitely flopped.
  9. I like these die cast very much. I was cautioned that these could “choke” the drum off too much, but that is not what happened at all. I would say it shifted the overtone frequency down slightly and a tighter range, but it still sings out plenty long. I like the appearance of them too. One other bizarre thing I noticed was the 302 hoops that came with my kit, ya they’re not round! The die cast really made that obvious. They still tuned and sounded great with the 302s…but my OCD says all the 302 hoops are eventually coming off. The die cast are very symmetrical along the bearing edge. 302 Die cast
  10. Nice! Good luck with the performance
  11. Just for shits n giggles…..I picked up 3 Gretsch die cast hoops….12/14/16. Just for the batter side of those toms. Renown RN2s come with “302” hoops which are 3mm double flanged….more open sound. Curious how they’ll react with die cast.
  12. I would also flip the toms over and check the reso heads. If it has something like remo “ut” “uk” or “ux” made in china heads…..I’d ditch them even if they’re brand new. They are not the same collar material or manufacturing process as USA made heads. They “can” cause very strange overtone issues.
  13. Absolutely that’s the way to go. The drummer will lose those arguments….he’s like “but hey….I like and perform better with the clears!”. Shut up kid, bang on them coated bongos and like it…..or we’ll find someone that will. Lol There were a few that would refuse…..I think Tommy Aldridge used clears on all toms. Period.
  14. My renowns came factory with clear emperors. I bought a full set of coated ambassadors…..I did not like them lol. They came off real quick. But there are so many factors to consider….I’m not recording, I’m not gigging, I choose components strictly by what I hear sitting on the throne in my drum room. I ended up getting a 10/12/14/16 set of Emperor Vintage clears and they are amazing on these drums. Ironically, they’re not really clear at all like the modern Emperor. They’re opaque. The sound from the throne is awesome.
  15. Ok there’s another, good catch. And here I was thinking this was a Mutt Lange thing lol
  16. Both of these bands had a peculiar thing with a song and album title…..not sure this happens in the music industry very often AC/DC released a live album in 1978 “If you want blood….”. The song of same name wasn’t released until the next album 1979 highway to hell Def Leppard releases the studio album “On through the night” 1980….the song was released 1981 on High n Dry
  17. Not exactly “incredible”…..but this album rocked the fuck out, way under the radar early 90s.
  18. Nice……Rejoice!
  19. It kind of does look like a tama copeland signature snare And that’s always been the knock on electronic snares/kits, the pads looked weird and were too small, no rim shots or cross sticking, the rebound was way off, no brush mode, pad hot spotted too easily because of shitty single piezo. Not anymore. Roland has figured it out.
