  1. Where are you staying? Near Cooperstown I recommend Council Rock Brewery for food and beer. Cooperstown Brewing, Red Shed Brewing, & Brewery Ommegang for beer. All south of the village and require a drive. You can do it in a simple loop. In Cooperstown village itself the Main Street strip and the HOF itself are must sees. I’d also recommend walking down to Otsego Lake (aka Lake Glimmerglass from the James Fenimore Cooper sagas), the source of the Susquehanna River. I also like the New York State Historical Society’s “Farmers Museum.” If you are staying in Oneonta, “Brooks BBQ” is famous for their chicken. Just south of Oneonta is the NW edge of the Catskills and some surprising gems. “Breakfast Club” in the tiny village of Jefferson for breakfast, “Tulip and Rose” in Franklin for dinner (menu changes weekly, check online on Tuesdays for new menu), “Sal’s Meat Center” in Bloomville for subs, “Table on Ten” also in Bloomville for oven fired pizza (way limited hours & reservations required ), “Mama Maria’s” north of Stamford for “east coast” pizza.
  2. Seeing all the HOFers on stage and in the parade is awesome. So is strolling down Main Street seeing all the former players and other celebrities signing autographs. My advice for the hall itself is to go right when they open and do the opposite of the crowd by starting on the first floor, then head to the top floor and work your way down.
  3. Go! I did Griffey’s and well worth it! Fly into your favorite NYC area airport mid week, pick a cool scenic way north, definitely visit the HOF itself, parade on Sat., and ceremony on Sun. Parade and ceremony are free. They keep building more hotels south of Cooperstown into Oneonta so it is now cheaper to stay closer in than it used to be. Six craft breweries nearby if you are into that. Also decent eats if you are willing to venture into the peripheral villages.
  4. Edgar Martinez vs.: Mariano Rivera - .579 avg, .579 ob%, 1.053 slg Mike Mussina - .307 avg, .337 ob%, .627 slg Roy Halladay - .444 avg, .474 ob%, .722 slg
  5. Do both! Smart micro local breweries do both. The growler glass is a great souvenir, advirtising mechanism. A few local brewpubs around me are now crowler only. I no longer go. They charge me more AND it takes more employee time to fill. The growler is hyper local as you get! I now actively boycott anti-growler “local” microbreweries.
  6. Thanks for all the tips. I had a great trip. The zoo is incredible and Petco Park is a must see for baseball fans. Of stuff not mentioned above I enjoyed Mission Brewery a few blocks from Petco Park just past the tailgate parking lot. There are lot of craft beer options between Little Italy and Petco Park and I visited 6 of them. AleSmith produced the best beers I had during my trip. There is a huge cluster of breweries north of Miramar and they are one of them.
  7. Upstate NY has lots of gems. It's a shame they are in the same state and have the same mega-city taxes and regulations as NYC.
  8. Eugene sucks ass when compared to other similar sized or smaller PNW cities. Bellingham or Bend for example.
  9. I'm looking for some San Diego recs. Must see destinations, food, must visit craft breweries, cool hikes, etc. I already have the zoo, U.S.S. Midway, and a Padres game on the agenda. I'm also thinking of doing the Cowles Mountain hike.
  10. The kids would probably love Silverwood, the NW's premier amusement park which is north of CDA. I really like Sandpoint, ID and Lake Pend Oreille. Montana's Flathead Valley and Glacier N.P. is a very scenic 4 hour drive away from CDA, especially the 200 along Lake Pend Oreille and up the Clark Fork Valley.
  11. NBCSN is doing a good job with live coverage of secondary sports. Great coverage of the NHL, EPL, America's Cup, Tour de France, Australian Big Bash Cricket, English Premiership Rugby, and more.
  12. I like Filson wallets. I am a front pocket wallet guy so I like them small. I am currently using the "Bridle Leather Card Case." It's tiny and I can fit my DL, debit card, credit card, work ID card, Medical card, AAA card, a few business cards, and cash into it.
  13. I am binge watching that now. Great show! ....except that it is clearly filmed in CA and they scoot back and forth between Lexington and Harlan County too quickly.... But great show! Season and a half left to go for me.
  14. It sounds like he may stay, but Sunny will go the way of Curb and not be an annual series.
  15. Portland City Grill for happy hour Acropolis aka "A-crop" on 99 in Milwaukie for steak n' strippers
  16. This was my first post back in 2012 at some other bored.
