  1. I love my brother, i do, but this whole conflict has really let the cat out of the bag to me that he’s lost his mind. He has a good job and makes 6 figures and all that nice stuff, but he’s gone nuts when it comes to anything politics or religion and especially both in the last 5-6 years or so. Out of nowhere today, he sent me a Twitter post from a user called “Truthseeker” (can you foresee what’s coming?) about the zelensky regime brutally arresting a ukranian priest in his war on Christian Orthodoxy. My brother recently converted to Greek Orthodoxy because of how conservative and strict it is, and claims that it’s the work of the Antichrist to pretend that this action is anything other than contemptible. When asked if I supported this, I said it was pretty low on my list of things I cared about, especially in light of, you know, war crimes and such. I learned that I am supporting the persecution of Christians by Jews and Pagans, and am being lied to about everything by normies (whatever those are). Me questioning his sources and saying that maybe these priests wouldn’t be under investigation if they weren’t loyal to Moscow was met with “Out of sight and out of mind is ok for those who’ve never actually experienced human suffering on any level other than worrying about if they’re getting the football tickets or not”, to which I just responded with an AP link to photos of Bucha. After 5 minutes or so of what I assume to be his brain pretzeling trying to figure out how to reconcile that, he sent a long diatribe that ended with the phrase “Jewish thugs and Pagan Nazi fools”. so yeah, maybe my brother has joined the KGB.
  2. If it is the same as what Gonzalo’s in Longview used to make (the owners are brothers) then they don’t roast anything, but I’ve never actually been to EyM. Gonzalos hot sauce was damn good though so it wouldn’t surprise me if they had a similar/same recipe.
  3. I prefer to call this the “Inverse Pauly Walnuts”
  4. A couple of super easy go-tos when I feel like putting in minimal effort: Boneless/skinless chicken thighs, marinated equal parts teriyaki and lower sodium soy sauce, black pepper, ginger powder. Grill or cook in cast iron, serve with some steamed rice and green veggie of choice. Pork chops, rubbed with Dijon mustard and lightly breaded with panko. Great in the air fryer or a cast iron skillet. Those are both probably 25 minute dishes that require very little skill or effort.

    Crawfish

They’re currently 5.99/lb at R&R. Had them at cottonwood yesterday for 5/lb. There were some good sized ones mixed in, but still a lot were on the small side. Either way, it scratched an itch.
  6. Need them to go ahead and make mozzarella sticks breaded in this. I’d eat a whole bag while drunk if you asked politely.
  7. As a quick aside, it is hilarious to me that we have an Aggie in here running circles around nearly everyone else in this thread. No one alert the football board!
  8. Can’t wait to go back to a roughnecks game.
  9. Just threw these in the smoker. That sucker has been doing some heavy lifting for me this weekend.
  10. This was fun. Took my time and did this as a 3 day process. Very worth the wait, but happy I have enough that I probably have enough to last me the year, depending on how much i give away.
  11. This ended up being ridiculously good. I did a cold smoke for 6 hours at 150, and cranked the heat up to test one linkk which was insane… there was so much snap that i literally got juice in my eye after taking the first bite. After vacuum sealing a few batches for friends I still have about 20 links I threw in my freezer.
  12. I made an obscene amount of sausage to smoke tomorrow. It was my first time making sausage, and after popping the casing a few times at first, I finally got in a groove and the process got a lot faster. Made a basic pork sausage using one of the Chud’s bbq videos. I’m glad I have enough to not have to do this again for a while.
  13. Love this dish. Instrucciones, por favor.
  14. Venison poppers… it’s going to be a nice afternoon.

That place used to be the barking pig, just fyi.
  16. Keller’s bakery is better, IMO. Obviously Olde Tyme is great, and easily my favorite po’boy regardless of location. Pop’s Po’boy downtown is also good, and they put a more modern twist on their many combinations. Don’s Seafood is pretty good for fried Cajun stuff, Dwight’s for crawfish. Judice Inn is an institution for burgers.. the burgers are small and they don’t serve fries but grab a couple of them and you’ll be a happy camper. For Mediterranean, Zeus on Johnston doesn’t look like much but we will get it for lunch just about every time we visit the in-laws. As far as nicer places, Charlie G’s and Social are both very good, and Cafe Vermillionville may be the nicest restaurant in town. We had our wedding reception there so I’m especially fond of it. I’ve got more but this should cover most of your bases.
  17. I bought a new 2022 Canyon Denali last summer and I love it. I’ve always driven larger SUVs (sold my wife’s hatchback and gave her the Pathfinder for trips and room for kids, etc), but even though this vehicle is smaller than what I’m used to, I don’t know that I’d even want an F150 or sierra 1500 right now. I work downtown in Houston so dealing with traffic is super easy, it fits in my garage, gas mileage isn’t bad, and I have more utility with the bed than I did with the SUVs. I wouldn’t mind a little more comfort in the back seats, but I only plan to haul my kids back there anyway. Anytime we need room for adults we’re taking the pathfinder.

    Help!

I’m looking for a place to throw a 60th birthday party for my MIL. Ideally, looking for 20-30 people and being able to maybe reserve a room or something to have cocktails and appetizers passed around or ordered and set down or whatever. Looking for something in the middle of being not too formal but also not super casual. Has anyone done something like this before and have some guidance?

    Pizza

Hmm, strange. I’ve had it multiple times, once even with it sitting out for a while during a kids birthday party. Even after sitting a while it was still surprisingly good. Maybe it was a location thing. Only good experiences with the one in the heights.
  20. My wife and I are basically high school sweethearts; I’ve had every king cake in that town over the last 15 or so years… Keller’s stands out as the best of the best even over some of the New Orleans king cakes a friend of mine sends every year.
