  1. I was there Saturday and I would agree with you here. The last two times I’ve been were the best two experiences yet. The glazed ribs were probably the best I’ve ever eaten anywhere and brisket was back on point. I’m gonna go back to truth next since it’s been a while but we really have some great spots in town.
  2. Has Pinkertons quality suffered with the opening of SA location? Was planning on going with some friends this weekend.
  3. Like @dcbc said as far as bbq, those are your best options. Apparently bodacious in hallsville in good. Otherwise, juicys, butcher shop, lil Thai house are all good lunch spots. Can’t speak to tex mex or anything else really as it’s been 6 years since I lived there and the places I frequented have closed. @NoName or @EE2B may need to chime in.
  4. That’s fair. BBQ be like that sometimes but I’ve been twice and just thought it was OK both times.
  5. I have a lot riding on this UL-UT game. All of my in-laws went to school at UL, and my wife did grad school there after Baylor, but I’ve always rooted for them as well. My FIL is the nicest guy in the world but also is very involved with UL athletics and the university in general, but primarily he’s involved in the athletics side. For the last several years he’s been nice enough while we both have been able to acknowledge UT football’s shortcomings, although he still roots for us weekly. He’s finally started to think he can talk shit about this game, so of course I’ve had to revert to 2000-2009 me and shit all over them. Now my FIL and BIL will be at the game, so not only do we need to punish them for thinking they’d win but also for the uncharacteristic shit talking they’ve been doing. I’m not sure I can show my face in Lafayette again if we lose this game. It’s mudhole time, bitches.
  6. I will say that Pinkertons does not belong in the same stratosphere as Pit Room IMO. You may have caught them on an off day, but even on the worst day I’ve had there it’s been better than Pit Room. Their consistency has improved a ton over the past couple years IMO which was my only gripe. When they are on (i haven’t had an off day in a couple years there) I’d have them there with truth in brenham, except they don’t have that tater tot casserole. Another note, saw an Instagram video from Pinkertons SA location. With that big ass lawn and the potential for outdoor entertainment/concerts, unless they’re sharing with the developer I’ve got to imagine that location will be fuckin raking in cash.
  7. Over the last year or so I’ve really gotten to liking him. Now that everything is opening up again I’m gonna try to catch him next time he’s in Houston.
  8. My wife is pregnant, so a little more “careful” than me, But also we’ve been vaxxed for over a month now. Had to go to specs as next week is my birthday and their sign was basically “please wear a mask or don’t” so I did not. She did at first and after i had mine off she took hers off. We were probably 20% of people not wearing a mask but fuck that. Let’s normalize normal Behavior (if you’ve been vaxxed etc etc). Our cashier was double masked and was clearly scared of me but as far as I’m concerned I’ve done my part and I’m good.
  9. My dad grew up in ft worth and went to angelos recently when he was in town to meet up with an old friend... said it was worse than any of the normal east Texas fare he has. I’ve been to panther city and it was very very good. Walked by heim last weekend and it looked like a really cool spot.
  10. We left Santa biscotti and scotch. My moms family left a BLT and a Budweiser. Trying to decide what were going to leave with my kids but we’ve got some big shoes to fill.
  11. My family owns a small restaurant that I grew up working in in every facet of the business. I’m pretty damn lenient about almost anything in a restaurant as long as the food is good, but having a bad attitude/giving shitty service is something that’s just an automatic deal breaker for me. Too many places out there that are happy to serve their goods with a smile and pleasant attitude.
  12. That’s just such a shitty attitude to have for someone in the service industry. Sure fire way to get me to never go back to an establishment.
  13. Sorry to break up the circle jerk but is Vincent Neil Emerson a thing in here? I like this dude a lot, and he just came out with a single that to me just gets Texas. Good guitar, fiddle, and accordion too.
  14. We have a ton of awesome restaurants in Houston. Starting this thread not to talk about the places you’ll go to on a lazy Friday/Saturday for TexMex or whatever. I want to hear about some of the places y’all like to go and really enjoy the food/service/wine, date nights, whatever. Some examples: Hugo’s: probably my favorite restaurant in this city. Just always have a really fun time there and love the food. Honestly any of that group’s restaurants could be listed here. Helen’s in Rice Village: Love Greek food and wine, very cool spot (especially once covid shit is over/pre-covid) Field & Tides: reminds me of my family’s restaurant that I grew up in. Neat spot, and I’ve loved every meal I’ve ever had there. Just some examples. whatchall got?
  15. Driving back to Houston Sunday I stopped at the whataBurger in Hutchins off 45. The wait was kinda long but damn if it wasn’t the hottest, freshest whataBurger I’ve had in years. #2 mustard Mayo grilled onions and japs, no tomato. I mean, just goddamn it was good. I’m going to remember that location for the future.
  16. I pitched Carshons deli but my parents were wanting a burger and a beer so we went over to 7th street. I’d been to magnolia street tavern a few years ago and thought it was a cool place, but unfortunately they were closed. Don’t know if that’s permanent or what but it looked a little neglected. We just walked over to Shaw’s - my dad wanted some spice so we got the three alarm burgers. They seemed to be hit by the understaffing going on in a lot of places, but their back patio was neat and the burger was spicy so I’m not complaining.
  17. My freshman year at UT a buddy found a certain Chicotski’s ID in the street and gave it to me. Even though he was a few inches shorter than me and Jewish, it worked every time. Showed my dad one Christmas break since the guy was from FW and apparently he grew up going to their meat market or whatever it was all the time. Carshons might just be the spot.
  18. Or you could just give me some good lunch spots? As long as it’s not Tex mex I’m open to suggestions. I live in Houston and never really come up this way.
  19. I’m in town for a wedding with my parents. My dad grew up here but doesn’t get to come back very often. Staying at the Renaissance downtown... where should I take them to lunch tomorrow? Not confined to this area but my parents are in the restaurant biz and I want to give my dad good options.
  20. I don’t even want to know what that QA/QC process looks like
  21. I mean, it’s not just your Westlake or other suburban kids either. Even 12+ years ago when I was in HS kids being barred out was pretty prevalent, even in bumfuck east Texas... doctors kids, truck drivers kids, whatever. I’ve never touched the stuff but the fact that it’s happening so frequently is scary as hell. I’m glad it wasn’t the case back then or I’m sure I’d have a few more dead friends than I already do. It should spook the shut out of anyone that’s into party drugs.
  22. Mcintyres, drift, bungalow are all a block or so from each other on like 19th and Beall and I’d say they trend 20-30 age. If I were right out of college and in the heights those places would be in the rotation. Mcintyres has a shitload of TVs for game watching but the douche factor can be high (no worse than anything on Washington though). Heights bier garten is a cool spot, they also have a liquor bar attached. I’m 30 and married so my priorities may be different from yours, but I’ve been to almost all the bars listed so far and they all have good qualities. I’m not out trolling for puss though so take it fwiw.
  23. Lots of shit is getting laced/contaminated with fentanyl these days apparently.
