  1. Pretty good article. I've already mentally conceded her loss, but hope that she lights up Bloomberg's ass tonight on her way out.
  2. Leave immediately, it's terrible. But for some serious recs: Prince Lebanese Grill - legit great Gyro House Mariano's Zavala's BBQ in Grand Prairie - pretty legit Firehouse Gastro Park in Grand Prairie Limon's or Fito's or Los Jarros or La Banqueta for tacos etc. Cafemandu or Everest for Nepalese - Irving, but close to Arlington Ba Le or Pho Hung - for pho
  3. Anyone have a decent rundown on the dem candidates for the TX senate race? Is MJ the go-to here?
  4. I've definitely heard this from a former Gary from VEEP figure.
  5. From what I've heard from friends who've made the rounds in DC, she's the among the worst in the abuse (excluding any sexual harassment type stuff) department. Like notoriously above and beyond bad. I give women a lot more leeway in the department, but apparently she's bad even by those standards. Even so, I think she could do admirable (if uninspired) cleanup duty post-trump.
  6. Bloomberg majorly sucks in a myriad of ways and it would be so terrible to have to vote for him. However, some people aren't financially comfortable, straight white dudes and would be really harmed by another round of this bullshit (acknowledging that some harms will still accrue under a Bloomberg admin). So... maybe vote like you aren't a financially comfortable, straight white dude?
  7. I'd enthusiastically vote for all of them besides Bloomberg. If it's Bloomberg, I'd get very drunk and begrudgingly vote for him, while hoping that every person who picked him in the primary gets the clap or something.
  8. Also, some people aren't good fits for STEM or the trades, but may otherwise be smart or productive people. You can't just say, "well don't go to college", when even an assistant job often requires an undergrad degree these days. Yes, the wise choice would be to not take out too much debt for a "worthless" degree, but even if you are getting your tuition paid for by scholarships, you still have to tap the well to cover the ever-increasing cost of housing during those years. You can either scold people for their "poor" choices while the economy goes down in flames or you can accept that people are flawed (and often stupid) and try and do something to ameliorate it to make our country a little bit better for everyone.
  9. And I'm sure some theater majors make excellent [insert job of choice]. Outside of a few specific career paths with certain prerequisite knowledge needed at the undergraduate level, I think most companies would benefit from hiring employees from a diversity of educational backgrounds. Maybe the theater major brings some creativity to the strategy planning or the engineer brings some structure to the creative endeavor.
  10. Okay, so let's say everyone is smart enough to avoid taking out loans for these much-maligned theater degrees and these students instead pivot into STEM majors. What happens when this glut of STEM majors goes job hunting and plenty are left out in the cold (because there are only so many STEM jobs)? Do we then scold them for not getting theater degrees?
  11. Agreed on both counts - I just thought it was funny. Also, even though Pete annoys me, I would run through a brick wall for him if he's the nominee.
  12. Men who refer to women as "females" are usually (not always) pretty terrible on any issue that involves women.
  13. My mom's side of the family are all Klobuchar --> Warren --> Bloomberg people that hate Biden. People are weird.
  14. I'm completely in favor of the two pronged approach of: (i) one-time student debt forgiveness, and (ii) taking measures to drastically decrease public tuition prices/make them free for all. I say this as someone who (i) had a middle-class mom who did everything "responsible" or "right" (saved a full Texas Tomorrow Fund for undergrad, I ended up getting a large private scholarship to cover the delta for the remainder of my undergrad costs), and (ii) already aggressively paid off my $90K law school loans in 4 years (thereby missing out on all of the tremendous market gains during those years). It may not be "fair" that we did everything right and I won't get a check for anything, but I would still get the benefit of: (i) a stimulated economy, (ii) a more-educated populace, (iii) a more happy, less-stressed populace (both the parents saving and the kids themselves), (iv) more intelligent people going into fields that serve the public good or bring new creative solutions to problems (smart middle/lower middle-class kids won't have to go work for McKinsey or Goldman just to start back at zero), and (v) countless other intangible benefits.
  15. The irresponsibility lies with the various factions that allowed for education costs to exponentially balloon far beyond the measure that most middle-class parents could reasonably be prepared to shell out, especially given the huge increases in the price of housing and stagnant wages over the past few decades. Why does "being responsible" always fall on average people and never the government, corporations, the very wealthy, etc.
  16. SMU is the 2nd best TX law school for the Dallas market and (from what I hear) UH is the 2nd best TX law school for the Houston market. Baylor may be slightly higher ranked than both now, but unless the recruiting committee is filled with Baylor grads, I don't know anyone who would rate it over say SMU/UH in the Dallas/Houston markets. In the Austin market, I don't think we even recruit from SMU/UH/Baylor anymore, so just get into UT.
  17. If someone needed to vindicate that NYT endorsement, this thread should serve as Exhibit A. Sheesh, men are apparently way too fucking emotional. Pull up your big boy briefs, vote for your candidate, and support the eventual nominee.
  18. Warren and Bern are looking really sharp tonight. Love Warren making her responses more direct than in prior debates and Bernie is doing really well with his humor and pivoting from disingenuous questions.
  19. They went too heavy on the eyebrow pencil as well. They are waaay darker than normal.
