  1. but, but...
  2. Deep South's Oldest Rivalry The Auburn–Georgia football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs. The two teams first played each other in 1892, and the rivalry has been renewed annually since 1944 for a total of 125 games as of 2020
  3. They may never win more than 4 games again.
  4. Yeah reports out of May were that the current media partners weren't interested in getting into bed early.
  5. They will gain more viewers in Houston, and a shitload of brand new ones in DFW (mostly Texas and blowU now) as well as greater Austin and SA. We're kind of talking the same thing. Ten years ago expansion was about markets, because carriage, the amount paid to channels to carry them, relied on it. Chord cutting changed all that. Everyone wanted audiences before, but it was secondary to making someone pay who didn't watch. Now, the metrics are about how much watching occurs and it doesn't matter where it occurs. Texas to the SEC doesn't do shit for carriage, because carriage is on the way out. It provides you a shit ton of viewership. Brands, success, and fanbases trump DMAs.

  8. I wouldn't want to be at the next media negotiation, but pick up Cinci/Memphis/Houston/Tulane and win in the post season enough and you could make something. With no bluebloods though the revenue figures will stink.
  9. Those are some pretty good games. That set up also eliminates the need for perm rivals since all the rivals are now division games.
  10. Texas, Oklahoma inquire about leaving Big 12 for SEC
  11. Haha, its good to see Beebe back:
  12. Its not though, but it was. And adding Texas doesn't add any households to neither ESPN nor the SECN. This is about audience, people viewing the actual game and it will continue to grow that way over the next decade.
  13. No, not yet, but that's where we're headed. Disney just netted $60m from premium access to Black Widow in one weekend. Amazon just forked over $1B to stream Thursday night NFL games. Carriage is becoming less and less meaningful and adding Texas and Oklahoma isn't going to net ESPN more TVs, since they already have them. What it will do is add viewership, whether that is via TVs or streaming. The same can be said for other teams. The "in the same state" argument doesn't mean anything any more, its how many people are watching. That's what is going to dictate this next round of media deals, unlike a decade ago when DMAs drove the conversation.
  14. Viewership means everything. TV sets, e.g. markets, not so much. Carriage really isn't much of a thing as it once was, streaming services measure eyeballs more than zip codes.
  15. Because the remainder of the Big 12 aren't worth nothing, and are certainly worth more than the G5 teams. If the SEC does go to 16, I can't see why the Big Ten wouldn't do the same. Who are they going to pick? Markets aren't as important as content and fanbases any more. Then once the Big Ten goes to 16, why couldn't the Pac 12 swing for 16 to keep pace? And who are they going to grab? BYU and Boise? They're not doing that now. They'd toss a lifeline to whoever is in Texas. On top of that the Big Ten and the Pac 12 have television contracts that expire around 2023.
  16. If this works out and shakes to four, I'm happy, especially if the only odd man out is Baylor. However, if this was leaked just to troll Aggy, I like it even more.
  17. Depends on what happens next. If there is a full on raid, you need something like 4 left to keep the contracts and, if you do, everyone who left's rights are still held by the conference, so a lot of lawyering up to go. If everyone finds a home but one or two, it dissolves and that is that. If this is a thing, its in their best interest to find good homes for the remaining schools or it could get expensive.
  18. Doubt it would exist to join: 1 would join the ACC 2 would join the B1G 4 would join the P12 1 would join the AAC
  19. Actually, I don't hate this.
