  1. So the way we're doing it is we're live streaming the questions on a Facebook Live broadcast and have an online answer sheet that you'll turn in at the end of each round. We're asking for teams to coordinate how they get together, but popular methods are zoom, skype, facetime etc. One scribe and one answer sheet turned in per team per round works best. I'll go over the FAQ's before we start tonight as well. http://www.facebook.com/austinpubquiz
  2. If any of you assholes are in need of socializing this weekend, I hosted pub quizzes / trivia nights for over ten years in Austin and have come out of retirement and am hosting a pub quiz each Saturday at 8:30 CST via Facebook live as long as this Corona crap sticks around. Last week we had 20 plus teams get together via zoom, the phone, and other ways to play along. It's really just an excuse for friends to (virtually) hangout and have something to do. It was really cool to pop into some of their Zoom groups and see folks on their couches hanging out with their friends miles apart. www.www.facebook.com/austinpubquiz
  3. If it makes you feel any better, at least your kid shows some imagination. We have a cat that the two year old named Cat. We tossed out name after name and nope "he name Cat".
  4. Online education companies, specifically those that provide online curriculum to school districts. I happen to work for one of the big guns and obviously it's huge for us.
  5. Of course. We don't start until 8:30 as we're trying to diminish the cameos by the toddler and the baby, though the nine month old co-hosted with me most of Saturday night. It's Facebook.com/austinpubquiz and here's the link to the event: Shelter In Place Pub Quiz. We actually had several current and previous Surlyites play this past weekend, but I'll let them out themselves on their own.
  6. At the risk of outing myself, I ran a pub quiz for over ten years in Austin and retired a few years ago when the first kid came, as I knew my mid week shenanigans were coming to an end. We revived it this past Saturday night by streaming a pub quiz on Facebook Live. Really we just wanted to give folks an excuse to hangout with their friends (albeit virtually) for a night and serve as a distraction through all this. I didn't really hit me until afterward when I joined a few of the Zoom groups and saw friends throughout the country on their couches laughing and having fun with each other. Afterward I heard a lot of feed back that it was exactly what folks needed as it fed that sense of normalcy and camaraderie, it most definitely fed my wife and me as well. Hanging on to our friendships and finding some normalcy in this is beyond huge to me. We've decided to do this every Saturday as long as this shit lasts.
  7. Ok I was wrong, after googling Mansfield Dam failure and ending up on a Homeland Security watchlist, I found the article below which points out that the flood projection map that was quoted earlier is a projection of a Mansfield Dam Failure. In short, if Mansfield ever fails we're getting a number six run on us and we'll be right fucked.
  8. Not to burst the bubble, but that cut off is Tom Miller Dam. That is flood projections for is Lake Austin came to town, not Travis. If Mansfield ever goes, Austin is no more.
  9. and around and around and around and around and around.
  10. Initial report was of unauthorized personnel in the tunnels, but LCRA just released an update stating that no one was found. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/travis-county/large-law-enforcement-presence-responding-to-situation-near-mansfield-dam/
  11. Does anyone have a guy (North Austin) that does Christmas lights for them on the cheap? I have the lights and clips, I just need someone to hang them on my roofline. I'd need a 30 foot ladder that I don't have and don't want to buy. Most of the pros cost $500 and up and want to supply the lights. I had a kid do them last year who was trying to earn extra money, but I haven't been able to get ahold of him. Thanks, Bluto
  12. Well the doc did cut my sack and contort my balls (not in a fun way). So yeah, I think it's pretty equivalent.
  13. We had number 2 back in June. Both pregnancies were tough with mandated bed rest due to preeclampsia and after my wife had to go back into the hospital for an overnight a week after the birth I called for the consultation on the way home from the hospital. I wasn't taking a risk on her with a surprise third. Yeah it hurts, but no worse than watching our defense.
  14. We're in basically the same boat though I'm hoping we're on the tail end of it. Boy number two is now four months and boy one is two years, my wife was on bed rest prior to number two and was on restrictions following a c section. Boy number one was absolutely attached at my hip, everything has been MY DAD! He loves his brother, but is extremely clingy when it comes to me making time or doing even little things with number two. One of the things thought that I've found really helps is helping him take ownership of his brother. "Can you help me give him a bottle?" Can you hold the wipes while I change him, things like that. We also make it a point for number two to give kisses, really a light head butt, when we're giving final good nights to number one. I just keep reminding him that I am your daddy, but I'm number two's daddy too. It seems to be helping.
  15. Just tuned in and Kevin and Chad are both on. It looks like he might have gotten the can from a side gig.
  16. The question to the president of Finland should have been, "Do you know what Trump wanted Biden investigated for?"
  17. Taking a quick and nauseating look at that twitter feed, she's running for city council again. May God have mercy on our souls.
  18. ^Holy shit that has got to be a tiny little person!
  19. Lots of old dads of young uns around here. We squeezed out the second boy a month and a half shy of my 43rd birthday, the wife is 35. The sleep deprivation and soreness that comes from having two under two while in your forties is tough, I can't imagine it any other way. While I'm sure I would have been a good dad in my 20's I feel that I'm just overall better built for it today. Plus it's extra fun for the family on my side as the grand kids go 27, 24, 22, 23 months and two months. It's been a blast so far.
  20. It's worth it, make it an accomplishment and something to be excited about and she'll buy right in. We've definitely had a lot of him being clingy, but that's been that worst of it.
  21. I'm in the same boat, just a little a head of you. My boys are 21 months a part with the first one turning two next month and the baby hitting two months tomorrow. Sleep is for the week. The ramp up for us seemed extremely rushed due to the wife (no pics) being put on bed rest and the little guy showing up at 37 weeks, but as exhausting as it's been it's awesome. What seems to have helped us out the most is helping the toddler take ownership of it. When we needed to move him out of the nursery to make room for the new guy, he "helped" me paint and ready his big boy room. We got him so excited about the big boy room and big boy bed that he hasn't attempted to escape once since leaving the crib three months ago. He's also in charge of bringing the bottles over to his brother when its feeding time and a lot of other things like that. Ownership on his part has been huge. As to the newborn, drinking helps. So does alternating with the wife and accepting help when family or friends offer, but mostly the drinking. It's exhausting, but it's also the best damn thing in the world.
