  1. Andrew Johnson? I think he got them mixed up.
  2. And when it gets back to the Supreme Court?
  3. Ya'll just wait until Greg Abbott and the SCOTX see this and start getting ideas. Teachers like me are going to be round up put in camps.
  4. I actually show this clip to 8th graders when I'm teaching the 7 principles and limited government. Occasionally, a few kids gasp when he says it, and that wakes up a couple more. It's going to be a bit different now. Everything is going come with a caveat... "That was until 2024. Now it depends. Read this and figure out if the Supreme Court believes in a government bound by laws." With 6th graders, I do limited vs. unlimited. Guess I'm going to add a paraphrased version of this decision to the USA slide. I'll report back with what the kids say.
  5. That Harvard Law Review paper was a real eye-opener for me. The shift you're describing will not be applied to Dems in our lifetime. SCOTUS is making everything go through them. Every law or presidential action Democrats pass gets scrutinized and challenged. Everything Reps do gets a rubber stamp. All these principles and laws were written by men who thought they were smarter than everyone else because they were more educated than everyone else (having slaves work your plantation gives you time to become learned). They also thought that only learned men would be in positions of power and that even if one (or two) learned men attempted to abuse power, then the rest would step in and stop it. They never believed someone would be able to sidestep impeachment. They never saw a world where weaponized ignorance could win... ignorance couldn't vote. They were worried about a king, so they wrote a Constitution to stop one bad actor from making himself a king. It doesn't do anything about a small minority of bad actors burning it down from within.
  6. Clarence and Ginny Thomas High School will be built in a low income, mostly black part of Baltimore.... the simulation has already decided
  7. Trump just got the of those people in. The other 3 were nominated by good, old-fashioned, traditional Republicans. Blame Trump all you want, but he's just the problem right now, Republicans have been the problem all along. I apologize for any previous vote that might have been complicit in that.
  8. Watch this, or don't, I don't care
  9. We built our house in 2002. I was 27. It is only through the Grace of God (and 2 reliable incomes) that we didn't end up with a subprime mortgage with an adjustable rate that triggered after 30 days. 22 years later, I'm still clueless, but I was such an easy mark back then.
  10. I assume other countries have access to Discord, or Reddit, or social media. https://www.theonion.com/no-way-to-prevent-this-says-only-nation-where-this-r-1819576527
  11. Beto did one thing... he got around Texas. I think that made a huge impact. Talking everywhere, red counties and blue. He actually listened and talked to them. I think it could work for Allred too. His football background will open a lot of doors easier than they opened for Beto. Now, getting his message across, I don't know about that. I think taking some suggestions from Beto might be a good idea. I'm sure suggestion one is to actually have a message.
  12. This is what you get when you join the SEC. Fuck the SEC. And fuck any of you that chant S-E-C at UT games next year.
  13. All this interception talk needs to stop. Does anyone seriously think Trump gets a forward pass: 1. to the line of scrimmage, 2. over his own guard's numbers, 3. with enough force to reach a defender? The answer is no. I see Trump making a lot of butt fumbles. And before active makes a Biden comparison... stop. Nobody's putting Biden in a football uniform, or putting him on Rambo's body, or any of the other weird, ridiculous shit Trump fans seem to love. Not that KE is a Trumper... I don't think he is... I think I know what he's doing here, and I'm kinda on-board.
  14. Only if practices go something like this...
  15. As shameless as she is, I'm very surprised this is a line for her. Hmm. Odd.
  16. I'm loosely connected at best. But yesterday still had some pretty shitty moments, and now I'm just thinking about a great kid (she's not really a kid anymore) that lost her mom before she could become a grandma. One day, one of us is going to be directly connected (maybe someone already is and hasn't chosen to share). I hope it never happens, but I'm starting to think it's inevitable.
  17. Trump=incompetent. This was a Trump plan. Therefore, it was done in the most slapdick fashion possible.
  18. That's because in MAGAland, performative imagery will always be more important than competent execution. It's the one lesson Donald Trump learned in life, and it has served him well.
  19. Just found out one of the victims in Round Rock is the mom of a former student. I initially misread the announcement and drove home thinking it was my student. I hate this feeling of relief that it wasn't my student. The other victim was also a mother. Neither had any connection to the fighting that led up to the shooting. Somebody who shouldn't have had a gun, had a gun. We protected their right to have a gun, and now 2 moms are dead. I move that we include these 2 moms in our Memorial Day observances. If soldiers give their lives to protect our rights, then I say these women are as much a sacrifice to the right to bear arms as any soldier. I'm just fed up with it.
  20. Sure, they were called pirates.
  21. I've decided that it was always corrupt. The difference is that in the past, the bar for corruption was so low that practically anyone could play. In the west, you could pay off a judge with a couple pieces of silver. Years ago, you could pay off a cop with a couple $100 bills. You could probably get a politician for a couple grand. But today, the price for corruption is so restrictive that only the mega-rich are able to get in the game. And since there's no accountability for the mega-rich, there's really no reason to be discreet. So here we are.
  22. Now get Bill and Hillary in the picture with the same vibe.
  23. What if you're from New Mexico but get pregnant in Texas? Can you take the fetus back to New Mexico for an abortion?
  24. Well, yeah, I was assuming he may actually be a decent person, but never spoke out because of some legal reason. I never even considered Burnett was in on the con. Shame on me... again.
  25. You know who could have helped nip this whole thing in the bud? Mark Burnett... all he had to do was tell the truth about how The Apprentice was made. The second Trump lost that show and stated positioning himself as kingmaker in the GOP Burnett should have pulled back the curtain and exposed him.
