  1. I think every school my daughter applied to other than NYU and W&M (maybe Illinois) required an ACT or SAT score now. Most (especially in the south) have gone back to required or are going back this year or next.
  2. Fuck no, depending on where they will want to go versus where you will pay for them to go. Oldest is a senior this year and is sitting top 10 in her class, will have 8 4-5’s on AP’s which will be the max she could take nonArts/language, a little off on the ACT at a 31-32, and most colleges she wants to go to if she can even get in are going to be no money given because they have moved to a more need based approach or they offer limited performance scholarships. Schools like UNC/UVA she will likely not get into as an OOS. We’re figuring roughly $60k a year if she doesn’t get money to one of the places she wants to go that she can get into like Illinois or William and Mary, but Wake was $100k a year for example. Again, she could go to Ole Miss, Bama, a number of other places for free but she wants to go further north to ultimately end up in NYC/CHI post graduate. It’s been a kick in the nuts going through this process. It’s also hard to narrow schools down when you can’t get into where you really want to go. We’re looking at smaller highly rated liberal arts schools now to see what options there are, but she really wants to go to a large state school for some reason. I think the small private school background she is coming from is driving her to want to be in a big school where she doesn’t know anyone.
  3. I’m not promoting it, but Ole Miss offers in state tuition with a decent GPA/ACT. They have moved up the rankings nationally quite a bit. Bama does as well. Downside, you have a degree from a MS/AL school. I’ve told my daughter I’ll pay full boat anywhere for her not to go to Ole Miss although she has a full ride there if she chooses.
  4. No, tips are the employees not the employers. The employer’s responsibility is to make sure that the employee makes at least minimum wage with tips, but all tips are due to the employee.
  5. Kids picked NYC for their Christmas presents for the second straight year. Looks like we are going to do Christmas week as they want to see it decorated for the holidays. Staying at the Refinery to be near Bryant Park. Past that they don’t have much on their lists if there are any must sees/eats that time of year not listed on the previous pages.
  6. Mine always did group lessons and will still jump into one this year when we get there just a little more advanced. The only time I ever did a private was when I was with buddies and we wanted to do an advanced private. I think it was really beneficial there because we got one on one, but as a newbie just go group. As far as timing, if we’re there for a week we usually ski 2, go snowmobiling or something else and then ski 2 more before leaving. The break in the middle lets everyone take a break and do something else fun. With kids that age it’s a crapshoot anyways. My oldest had zero interest and now just hangs out with mom and spends money. The youngest wants to go snowboarding, but she isn’t going open to close for 5+ days.
  7. My knees are trashed from years of abuse and partial tears, complete tears, etc. The last round of PT I went through they had me work more on stretching the upper and lower leg muscles to get more range of motion in them which helps stabilize the knee and take pressure off them. I still weight train but the focus has been more on range of motion and elasticity of the muscles the last year. Saying all that, I’ve still had to dial back what I do on the slopes and give up wakeboarding completely because there is only so much everything else can cover for if your knees are a problem.
  8. The trend continues, big dollar pool I’m in that pays out half a mil lost half it’s remaining people today. Surprising ones were the earlier games were road dogs won over big home picks.
  9. Projected layups have done a really good job cleaning these pools out over the years.
  10. How is sympathy for random people on the internet any different than commenting negatively on someone that is gone? It’s opposite sides of the same coin. You either think about it enough to notice (which means that person has made some impression good or bad) or you don’t. As far as him specifically, he’s been around a long time and has been interesting if nothing else. Hopefully, he does find peace outside of here. That doesn’t seem like that strange a thought for a normal person. I hope most people find peace in their everyday lives just for the record. Meant to quote the “why” post too just for the record.
  11. Went ahead and got 2 for AT&T also. Hopefully it works, if not I’ll find someone to go see Isbell.
  12. Picked up 6 for my oldest graduation trip with her friends. Depending on move in dates at college we’ll buy secondary for AT&T later on.
  13. Finally took the hard top off the Bronco because my kids wanted it off to drive around in. Think I’m going to order a soft top and roll with it until it cools off. My oldest thinks she’s getting it when she graduates, so I’m going to see what the time frame is on a Raptor order just to see.
  14. He had another video in the group that he took down when he went to war with the local DA where he caught one on fire in a hay field when the brakes got hot. I find his stuff to be annoying, but then I end up watching a few minutes of it because it’s just completely asinine in comparison to others out there. Let’s put a Hellcat on pontoons with paddle wheels or a Tesla on oversized wagon wheels and drive them around. Really?
  15. He has 5+M subscribers on YT. He’s well beyond worrying about insurance. He destroys everything just to piss people off and monetize it.
  16. Saw them Thursday night, she may as well have just come out naked because there wasn’t much left to the imagination. They did a couple of songs together including Landslide which was pretty good, but the visual of them side by side is the most entertaining part. Signing up for the Foxborough presale, daughter wants to see Zach Bryan and I’m always up for Isbell.
  17. Depends on where you want to go and what you want to do. I run a top 140 firm based out of a moderate sized town with a degree from a college that doesn’t exist any more . I did just fine on the path I chose. However, if I had wanted to go Big 4 in a major market out of college I would not have gotten an interview. It’s changed some now because of scarcity of people, but it’s still a stigma to go to a lot of different schools. There are plenty of careers in plenty of places where you just need the diploma then it’s on you. There are certain ones and certain places where the diploma opens the door for you to then prove it.
  18. Easy, battle of the kids. Smartest/most driven one gets the tuition coverage, other two are going to a low tier state school. Put your eggs in the basket of the one with the best shot.
  19. Wake was super nice, she did a summer immersion deal there this summer and liked it. Price tag versus other factors including virtually no merit based money didn’t make sense to her. UVA and MD are also on her list but UVA is sub 10% out of state admittance like UNC. Right now, she thinks she has decided not to apply and look at it for law school potentially. All the state schools outside of the southern SEC schools are ultra low out of state now. Hell, Tenn went to 30% total admittance which is close to conference low behinds Vandy last year which is vastly different than where it was a few years ago.
  20. Looks like you are in the same area with the exact same thoughts that we had. Wash U, NW, Univ of Chi, NYU, Illinois, UNC, William and Mary, UGA, Belmont as her safety school, and then going to Boston fall break to look at a few around there.
  21. Send me your Venmo and I’ll send you payment. I probably have it but want to make sure.
  22. If he goes to med school, do at least part of it on a loan. If he’s going into any legitimate specialty he’ll get loan forgiveness as part of the recruitment process with limited time commitments to the area. I’ve offered similar. Go to a reasonable undergrad and I’ll pay for law school if that’s where she decides to go.
  23. My man, that looks perfect for what she is looking for other than out of state being higher than I expected.
  24. I figure it will average out with my second one. She’s probably going somewhere in Colorado where she can eat gummies and snowboard with a little school on the side (hopefully.)
  25. She’s dead set on going big law in Chi/NYC so she’s looking at feeder schools to graduate schools that feed those practices. Our main state school is right at $40k now for instate and is housing kids in local hotels because they are out of dorm space. They have all gotten to be fairly ridiculous including schools I would have never associated with high costs/low acceptance rates in the past.
