  1. What exactly does that have to do with the issue? It’s fine because there are worse things out there Sure, they can see worse lots of places if they look for it. The whole thing is ridiculous, not funny, disrespectful to the players and the fans, etc. I’m also not one of those fans that yells at players, cusses the people around me or the players, or acts like a general asshole in public venues or private venues for that matter. Sports fans have taken on a weird sense of entitlement to do what they want. Even with that, dildos are a bit of a bridge too far in my opinion.
  2. That’s a terrible comparison. Throwing anything on the floor, field, pitch, whatever else there is, isn’t funny. You want comedy and sports, go to a Savannah Bananas game.
  3. I have two daughters that watch a lot of WNBA now. I can assure you that sex toys weren’t on the list of topics we discussed at 15 and 11. Throwing dildos on the floor of a women’s basketball game isn’t humorous. What it’s turning into online isn’t humorous. It’s not something that a lot of parents of teen and preteen girls expected to have to be talking about when watching a basketball game.
  4. I wish I had some of the problems you all have with our youngest. She is the polar opposite of her sister. We sat down tonight to talk about a plan for the application process and I should have just kicked myself in the nuts for an hour. I might have felt better at the end. I think we have a tentative list of colleges to research, we’ll see if she follows through with it. We’re also going to meet with an admissions counselor because she doesn’t want to work with the school ones. Some progress is better than none I suppose.
  5. We used a consultant with our oldest. They started working together sophomore year to tailor her school schedule and start working on other things that would help her through the process. By the time her senior year started, she was completely done with everything application wise and was just waiting on the process to open. They spent her senior year working on scholarship applications, trying to get another point or two on the ACT, etc. My oldest wanted to go out of state to schools that were hard to get into, so it made sense to us to do it. My youngest is a senior this year and hasn’t done anything at this point. She has no interest in going to an exclusive school, so she should be fine. She’s going to work with the school staff, so we’ll see what the differences are.
  6. That doesn’t make much sense in the grand scheme of the way things work in pro sports. Most of the other leagues have some revenue split with players, that revenue is part of what drives valuations as well as player pay. Using the Lakers as the example is an outlier because of the franchise itself, but you can look at the valuation of the lower tier teams and what they have increased along with the overall cost of entry/expansion. Most of the people entering ownership now aren’t doing it for hobby purposes, teams are investments they they expect to continue to increase in value which comes from revenue growth.
  7. Yet, here you are going in the same circle over and over. The NBA owns a significant portion of the league, it’s not like they are just ponying up money for the hell of it. Using just your numbers from the attached article along with the difference in the TV rights deal going forward, the WNBA numbers look much different in 2026 and beyond. Along with everything else that has been pointed out to you, now is the time for them to argue for more money.
  8. Why does the NBA need to open their books for anything? What other sport has done that in a player pay debate? The people that see the numbers are paying significantly more for existing franchises and new ones, so that should tell you quite a bit about what the real numbers look like. The NY Liberty valuation was $450m for a team with less than $1.5M in player payroll. That math doesn’t work for the lower pay argument. The reaction to the WNBA players looking for more money (again on the back of a new media rights contract, valuation increases, expansion, attendance increases, etc) seems odd compared to other sports. I’m sure the owners are happy to know that for the first time ever the fans are worried about their pocket books while their investment value continue to multiply.
  9. The social media engagement by a number of other players is what’s bringing them and their friends to the games. They were all in on the Studbudz All Star streaming. We were moving the oldest back into college this week and she had her college friends that were with us watching Min/NY at supper Wed night. For them, it’s about engagement not what appeals to you or me and that’s one thing the players have gotten right the last few years. Sustainability will be interesting, might be a good time to get a bigger piece of the pie while it’s there.
  10. Would you call the new TV deal and the increased attendance numbers “producing it first” or not? That’s without getting into the valuation increases and the expansion fees. Someone paid the bills for every league for a long time. Look into the NBA numbers for the first half of its existence.
  11. It’s kind of funny reading through pages of a bunch of middle aged white dudes bagging on the WNBA. I would say at this point with their social media presence and fan engagement, we aren’t their target market. My late teen daughters are all in. They don’t watch any other sports outside of F1, but they both have ESPN+ to watch games, follow numerous players religiously on socials, have travelled specifically for games, had a big watch party for the AllStar game, etc. Neither like Clark for the record, she has zero appeal/engagement for them. Now is the exact right time for the players to go after more money with expansion, the TV rights contract, valuation increases, etc. Every other sport has done it, so the view around here on the WNBA players making their play for a larger split is a little odd.
  12. I would take any day in the tropic or sub tropic temperature range over the heat and humidity of the southern US this time of year. We spent summers in south Florida for years and it was hot, but it was more manageable than TN is this week. We would just head in or to the pool during the mid day, mornings and evenings were perfect for being outside. It doesn’t really cool down at night, but that was still manageable. If you’re trying to escape the heat right now, you’re out of luck most places. We’re in Denver for Mumford and Sons this week and it has been right at 90 the last three days.
  13. UNC is next to impossible from out of state. It also is an older campus that doesn’t show very well at this point. My oldest wanted to go to UNC up until sophomore year, but she wasn’t impressed with the tour and moved on quickly once we started touring.
  14. I’m all for this recommendation, but don’t go if you want anything other than sitting on the beach. Everything commercial is still scarce from the hurricane recovery. There are a few restaraunts open, but still limited from what it was. Also, no way would I do 30A in the next few weeks. It will be a shit show with summer winding down from a school perspective. If you like lots of people, then go for it. If you want gulf beaches, the north portion of Anna Maria Island would be worth a look as long as long as you stay north. You have to drive in would be the only issue. If you don’t mind Atlantic beaches, some of the high end resorts outside of Charleston would be worth a look like what you can find on Sullivans or even Palmetto Bluff south of Charleston especially if you get into late August. Past that, pick whatever direct flight option ends up in the Caribbean, Mexico, Belize, etc. We did this a few weeks ago and just found a direct flight to somewhere we haven’t been and went.
  15. Coming after you? I could have easily quoted several others, that was just the one that was here along with the other thread I had just caught up on. It was more of a general point than specific to you, but when the shoe fits feel free to wear it.
  16. The fascination with some of you on trying to connect people back to banned posters is odd. You have Penelope posting DM’s in the flood thread just to try to prove someone is Rex. Who gives a shit? Just put them on ignore if you don’t like them, didn’t like them, etc. The ability for people to self police their own interactions would make a lot of this much better. The ability to discuss news and also have the dedicated political space is primarily why I still come around along with other non football boards. That one is damn near unreadable a lot of the time with all the whining that goes on there. Typically, no matter the subject there is someone that knows a lot more than me about it so it’s good to get their perspective and it’s also a benefit to get more localized input. Most discussion boards have completely removed politics/news at this point because the posters can’t control themselves and it’s bad for advertising revenue. This board does a pretty good job of managing it although from the outside looking in it is pretty clear who the problem children are.
  17. Make sure you do the research on the specific requirements. This was my plan for UGA with my daughter, they did not approve that plan. “She” is going to buy a house, rent a couple rooms to her friends, she has a job with my firm where I pay her subject to GA state income tax, etc. They still would not qualify her. She has to be in the house for 12 months before they will consider the change and then she has to pay GA taxes (check), reside in GA during all school breaks (kind of hard for them to check realistically), commit to trying to remain in state post graduation (again, hard to check), and a few other things. I’m surprised they didn’t ask her to sign in blood.
  18. Well fuck, did my annual work up with the cardiologist including a CT scan and got the “we need to see you back in ASAP call” I expect every time I leave. Pretty sure a trip to the cath lab is coming. I’ve known it was on the horizon because of a defect issue and hereditary heart problems. My dad had his first stent at 47 which I will be in 2 months. Shitty part is he had his last one 3 months ago and didn’t make it out of the procedure. Kind of has me in my head at the moment.
  19. I have a good friend that lives out of state that I get together with a few times a year. He quit about the same time but he was a bottle of wine + a night guy. His reasons were similar in that it was more about his kids than a personal issue with it. He orders NA beers when we’re out with others. I find it odd, but it’s what works for him.
  20. On the whole drinking thing, if you’re looking for pills to make you feel better it might be time to just quit. I was having a conversation with my teenagers a couple years ago about drinking and how pervasive it was in their classes. The parents didn’t seem to care and enabled it because they were doing the same thing. I packed up 100+ bottles of bourbon, gave them away, and haven’t thought about it again. The health benefits were pretty quick even though I only had a drink or two a few nights a week while cooking or eating with friends. Even a minor amount on a regular basis makes a difference. The culture of alcohol consumption is odd when you really think about it. From being around my kids friends, it’s becoming a more significant problem in their age ranges than what I remember growing up.
  21. I was having BP issues several years back and everything else was at least in the vicinity of normal. GP prescribed a BP med and said he would be happy to refer me to a cardiologist to get a work up. Best advice I’ve ever had was getting referred to a research based interventional cardiologist. He put me through every test he had to figure out exactly what was causing the BP spikes and then slow dripped prescription changes until it was in line with where it needed to be. By the time it was done I was taking 1/8 of the dosage the GP wanted to give me and also dealing with some other issues I didn’t know I had. Heart disease runs in my family, so it was better to know everything. I go through a full battery of tests annually now where he can track any changes that need to be watched or dealt with. He’s also basically my GP at this point. I don’t take medicine for anything unless he prescribes it and I see him for general heath things that come up every once in a while.
  22. We’ve never had an issue with no see ums outside of fishing the really low tide mangrove areas at dusk. Disagree on the swimming side also, there are plenty of places to pull in and get in the water. Would I go in the inner islands, no. If you are on the outer islands like Kice or Cape Romano, or the outside islands further south, no problem. If you want more water clarity (Kice is generally pretty clear at the cuts) then you can skip around to the other side of Marco and run to Keywadin or run really far north to Lover’s Key/SanCap. I don’t want to sit on a beach cheek to cheek with people, I’ll take west coast over east coast 7 days out of 7. Once you pass Cayo Costa the beaches/water turn more towards what people expect with the gulf. You can still find some seclusion through Longboat Key and the north end of AMI during the week, but everything is pretty well packed from Marco to Anclote unless you go to boat access only places like a few places in the 10000 islands (most on Marco go north to Keywadin), North Cap / Cayo Costa, or the area of Sanibel between the end of West Gulf Dr and Bowman’s where there is no public access. Everyone has their preferences, I just hope it is clear water and white sand and they stay away from where I hang out.
  23. I’m not a huge fan of the Keys, but the whole point of the Keys is to get out on the water and do very little else. I’ve always had a great time in the middle keys, but it’s get up, get on the boat, get off the boat, go to bed, do it again.
  24. This is a much better idea than driving to Key West for the day. Taking a boat out of Goodland to fish, shell, sightsee the 10000 islands will be more memorable than the clusterfuck the drive to KW is. For me, there isn’t any place better than Sanibel down through the 10000 islands. You can still get out and find a place to set up with no one else on it. Saying that, SWFL beaches aren’t like typical gulf beaches so if you are looking for clear blue/green water and white sand don’t bother, go further north past Venice /Sarasota to AMI or that area or stay on the East coast. It will also be a little warm that time of year, so be prepared. We get out early, avoid the mid day sun, and go back out early evening. If you need recs on the area, I can send a few.
  25. You can get up over $300k on a 28 foot with twin 450R’s. We were out sea trialing a boat in SWFL and one just absolutely dog walked us in the intercoastal. They were easily running up around 75-80 on a 28 foot tritoon. The salesman was telling us all about them.
