  1. Sanibel video makes me sick. That intersection is probably 1/2 mile from the beach and it is undeveloped land in between the two (road to the left runs parallel to beach before cutting back to it), so that’s not just water running up the roads. It is also not a low point by any stretch.
  2. Lot of really nice sailboats based out of there with the nature of where it sits. Hopefully the surge is somewhat limited with the hard right it took at Sanibel. I know a few people with boats in the canals in Punta Gorda that are worried because that area wasn’t built for a lot of water.
  3. They have been dropping and then coming back up. He said earlier they have multiple ways to upload video from them, so they have to give them time to load when one source goes down. Apparently, they are some sort of specially designed cameras in Pelican cases that they attach to fixed mounts in multiple locations. It was pretty interesting while I listened for a few minutes, except for all the other BS he was going through.
  4. Have it muted once i heard the camera locations. Camera 5 is on the second floor of a condo and is getting waves over it. Camera 9 is sitting around 10-12 feet and has water going over it.
  5. These guys have camera on FMB and Sanibel that are still up.
  6. Going to suck, Charley did a number on the islands as a smaller hurricane that hit it more centered and crossed where Ian is going to catch it with the eastern edge and run up it as a much larger, more powerful storm. Captiva is easily going to be washed over with this one.

    Getting old sucks

F-ing sucks, back has been okay for the last week or so while I’ve been resting my shoulder from surgery. Started PT yesterday, back flared up seriously today. Think I may buckle and call a buddy that is a chiropractor.
  9. Flying in Saturday through Thursday and then a quick one nighter in Chicago for a concert for the Christmas trip we let our teenagers plan out. Not really looking forward to it at all. We’ll be the tourists running through everything like a bunch of idiots so they can see volume rather than quality, but they will enjoy it.
  10. That plus the lack of common courtesy and boat/lake knowledge by the new guys rolling around in $200k+ wake boats makes me generally go with wakesurf = obnoxious. I’m 100% old guy yelling at clouds who also just never could get into wakesurfing with that thought, which I’m fine with. The old days of boats making runs on rotation, avoiding the coves while people are making runs, etc have passed by in our area where the lakes are not massive. Tubers, jet ski’s, wakesurf boats, people who anchor right in the middle of the places where people are wakeboarding, boats cutting you off or crossing your wake, etc all have annoyed me post Covid, but the first couple aren’t throwing 2+ foot wakes that people aren’t paying attention to where they go.
  11. Tampa king tides are the next two days with the peak king tide cycle in 2 weeks, pretty much worst case scenario for water volumes. Newest models suck for an area we consider more home than where we are currently. Offer fell through on a water front replacement for the house we sold on Sanibel, so that timing may have worked out as a positive for once.
  12. No change in options in the early order bank for ‘23, so just rolled it forward. Dealer thinks it should get built by Christmas. Stupid part is the hard top has been the main issue. I don’t want a hardtop, but you can’t opt out in the 2 door for some dumbass reason. Been looking at old ones now. May double down on stupid and see if I can find one that interests me.

    Getting old sucks

Have a client that bought $5,000 in Apple stock with an IRA contribution in the early 90’s. $18M when he died last year having never sold any.

    Getting old sucks

I’m about ready to park my ass in an old folks home and ride out my days. Started PT today for herniated discs, shoulder surgery last week for a deltoid issue, elbow/hand surgery later next month for a nerve issue, and the hits keep coming. I told my wife last night I had to come up with some good stories to tell my future young girlfriends for the 5 substantial scars in 11 months after making it through 43 years unscathed. Anyone have some good hobby recommendations for a 44 year old going on 75 apparently that has had to give up water sports, golf, trail riding, etc?
  15. Same here, jt sent me this way many years ago on a question I had about something. That was a great board when it was active.
  16. All depends on what you want to spend. Nashville is an expensive place to stay now. Westin and JW Marriott for downtown, Thompson for the Gulch area, Kimpton for the Division St bars are all super nice hotels in good areas. Bourbon Steak, any of the M street restaurants, Biscuit Love, Southern Steak, Skull’s Rainbow Room, Puckett’s and a long list of other good restaurants. Broadway is worth a visit, but one night is more than enough.
  17. Agreed, the shoreline and the boats on docks are more important to me than which foot you want forward.
  18. If you’re surfing my boat, you’re surfing port side. I’ve never set up or offered to set up starboard.
  19. I have nothing left of my wall at the lake other than the posts because of people cruising the banks. It irritates the shit out of me more than anything else. If you are wakesurfing, the surf side needs to be towards the middle of the lake at least.
  20. The next time my wife uses an air fryer much less the gas stove and various other appliances will be pretty close to the first. This is one of the many questions I didn’t know to ask when I got married at 20. Luckily for us my mother raised me properly and passed along some kitchen skills.
  21. The sky is the limit. The kitchen is next on our contractor’s list and we’re $80k in with just the cabinetry and appliances. Hardwood and counters will be another chunk on top of that. My wife has a real knack for going with the absolute most expensive option she can find without even knowing what the prices are.
  22. This is surly, both of these things go hand in hand with everyone putting themselves out there on this site. There is always someone on the other side of the coin. For the record this one seems to have been turned up to 11 for whatever reason. Let’s get back to boats. I don’t have one so I’m not even sure why I’m here other than to live vicariously through others (at least those that keep their music at reasonable volume anyways, just kidding).
  23. You seem sensitive about the music comments. Do what you want. However, put me in the camp of not wanting to hear everyone else’s music while I’m on the water, at the beach, on the golf course, skiing, wherever I might be. if you’re out on your own, blast it until your heart is content. If you’re around people, turn it down.
  24. This kid is getting shit advice from a POS dad which isn’t that unheard of. However, the thing I missed somewhere is high school kids chasing out of state NIL deals because certain states allow it which seems dumb as hell. That seems like a horrible idea that is going to be overrun with piece of shit people.
  25. Interior speakers do not, tower speakers on the other hand are designed and set up to project sound. It is one thing I’ve never owned. Not a big music guy anyways, but I never wanted the extra weight on the tower and also did not want them in the way when moving around.
