  1. I missed the page that led to my earlier response. I find your viewpoint of the employee/employer relationship lines up with what I see from a section of our workforce, those not looking for upward mobility and that are just there for a paycheck. My expectations for what our employees have to do has changed a lot over the last 10 years. There is no point in making the “back in my day” argument because it’s not relevant at this point. However, if you expect to move up then you better understand early that we’re not a M-F 8-5 job 52 weeks of the year. We respect your time and allow you to come and go as needed during the day, but there are times when you have to be available. You’re probably going to miss a few things along the way. It is what it is if you want to move up. We had a client appreciation dinner tonight for 40 or so clients, my core group was there. I don’t think any of them were at the office very long today, but they were all there tonight coming out of a period where they already missed some nights and Saturdays. There is no doubt that employees hold more cards than they ever have. I think they should probably be smart about how they play those cards though.
  2. May help my ski bunny pickup game assuming my wife would sign off which she probably will not. At one point in life I thought I could end up working on the accounting side for one of the resorts, I’m going to pass on that one. If FL wasn’t becoming such an f-ed up shit hole, I would probably just go that route and fish year round.
  3. I still want to do what I wanted to do at 18, work the ski resorts in the winter and take people fishing on the coast in the summer. Getting married too young and having kids set that back a few years, but I’m still shooting for it. I could probably do it inside the next 5 years, but I think I’m going to wait 10-12 and shoot for 55. I’ll have 20 years in as managing partner at that point and it will be past time for new blood to take this thing wherever it’s going to go.
  4. I’ll dox myself if anyone wants to take the time to do a little searching. I don’t really care if anyone knows who I am because I don’t post anything I would be ashamed of in real life. Saying that, I run a top 125 accounting firm that will be top 100 inside the next couple of years. There is no doubt AI is coming for a portion of our industry, but it is a lot of the lower level repetitive work we have already walked away from. It’s also why we’ve diversified into investment management, marketing, app/software development, IT, etc. AI is going to fundamentally change a lot of industries including accounting, but to say it’s coming for my livelihood shows you don’t know where the industry has already evolved. Hell, the AICPA has been telling us for at least 7 years now that we’re 3 years away from blockchain fundamentally revamping the industry. Everything changes, those that adapt will profit and survive, those that don’t will not. I don’t make any money entering checks and deposits to generate someone's financials now, it used to be a large part of what firms do. I make 5x what the high partners did in those days, you adapt and capitalize.
  5. Voted yes earlier as well. For the record, two sides agree makes it sound like a completed trade occurred. Sounds like one partner on a two man team didn’t like the deal after it was completed. Don’t know that I’ve seen one get canceled after the fact.
  6. Agree. I’ll use the seamaster with the rubber band most of the time. I’ve really liked the rubber band. This one is more for when I have to dress half decent.
  7. New Speedmaster showed up today. Definitely need the leather band for it when it comes out this summer.
  8. You sure run to the moderators a lot. Maybe just read some threads, post some responses, and move on with your day. As far as travel, trying to decide on an island spot the end of next month that we can get into and back out of easily. All are vaccinated so that part isn’t an issue. May end up just going to the Keys for a few days for simplicity, but I need to start seeing what each of the islands is requiring for in/out travel.
  9. That looks like a whole lot of not much fun.
  10. We ordered ours back over the winter. Wife spent a small fortune on the furniture, we’ll see how well it holds up versus the cheaper stuff we normally have used. Hopefully it will be here in the next week or so as we’re finally getting towards the finish line on this project. We’ve been waiting on the right color replacement travertine to come in and then we should be done.
  11. Temporary housing would as it’s no different than a relocation bonus. Most of the actual moving expense would not be included.
  12. They can’t that I know of from a check, the efile had to be set up to draft which means you are probably going to double up.
  13. Is your new employer legit and know what they are doing, parts of the move should have been nontaxable if handled correctly.
  14. $1100 is related to unearned income, earned is $12,500 cutoff.
  15. You can only make up to $6k a year non deductible contributions. You can convert whatever you have in nondeductibles whenever you want tax free as long as there isn’t an IRA out there that has deductible contributions in it. Lots of people make two years non deductible by 4/15 then roll both at the same time.
  16. Omega guy called yesterday and they had a blue face Speedmaster come in, so it should be here Tuesday. Blue leather straps haven’t come out for the new ones yet, so went with the metal band for now. He’s going to call me this summer when the leather comes in.
  17. I’ve lost interest in going places I went on ski’s in the past. Kids, work, etc made me rethink how far I was willing to go and how long I was willing to be out recuperating. I’ll still ski the bowls and the backs of the mountains, but I go slower and I’ve definitely turned down the intensity. I also try to avoid the crazies blazing a trail down the mountain. I don’t go enough to run some of the stuff we did in the past.
  18. I believe it. My business partner still doesn't have his F350 he ordered in October. Ordered my 250 in September, I’m into mid May now on expected production. It has dropped back 2.5 months since they first sent me the build notification in early February. Dealer has contacted me multiple times asking if I would be interested in letting the order go. He wants to put it on the lot I’m sure.
  19. My youngest is none of those things, she will either be at free community college, a state school with cheap tuition, tiktok famous and making more than me, or jail maybe.
  20. Both of mine will leave the state and most likely the south (unless UNC works out) and probably not come back which I’m good with. Maybe it has always been that way, but a lot of the graduating classes from their school end up in the northeast in school. She and her mom got together and decided to meet with a college coach. Her high school has 3 college advisors for a class of about 70 which seems like plenty to me, but I guess this is a new phenomenon that has been added to the mix. Hopefully, it’s not the Aunt Becky version that requires me to write a massive check to gain admittance.
  21. Coin flip between Acuña and Tatis. Hate picking 1.
  22. I’m not even looking for the ones that aced their tests, I’m looking for the ones that had a life, hopefully made decent grades, and can sit down and talk to you in an interview. We’re not Big 4 (they can have all the 4.0’s) but we’re right on the cusp of Top 100 firm size. I left my first school with a 1.7 GPA after my first year, got married and finished out the next 2.5 years strong to get me back up in the low 3’s.
  23. She forgot to provide her number.
  24. Speaking of T-shirts, I was standing behind a young lady in line last night and the back of her t-shirt said “Text me when you cum” in great big block letters on it. I just had to shake my head.
  25. This whole process has become overly convoluted and the number of schools a lot of these kids appear to be applying to makes it even worse I suppose. If they have the test scores, it makes sense to apply early to the top tier schools you are looking at and get it out of the way. If you get in you’re set, if not you have plenty of time to get the next round out. It looks like the top schools are limiting applicants to only apply to the one school early though, so that may start tightening up too.
