  1. Talked to my daughter in Athens earlier, Athens came through fine. It ended up east of them. Talked to a client in Augusta this afternoon, it got hammered. He said he has significant damage, there were several deaths reported, etc.
  2. Seems like an odd comparison, they actually have championships in the 2010’s. Academics wise on that list UGA is by itself, Clemson would be behind FSU and then well ahead of the others. They also have a strong honors program.
  3. This is the epitome of a spoiled dog. I taught my dog well (the second one waiting patiently), my wife didn’t do so well with training hers. He gets more leeway than the kids at this point.
  4. We know several kids at Wash U, ours considered it but ended up wanting big school, football, etc. Only downside is it’s in St Louis which isn’t the greatest “big” city to be in by any stretch, but it has some really nice communities within the City. The Forest Park area where the school borders up to is one of those communities to be in. You also aren’t very far from the new soccer stadium and plenty of other things to do.
  5. You have to be about the strangest person on this site at this point. The shit you over react to is mind boggling.
  6. We liked Clemson a lot more than South Carolina when we looked at them. Clemson also had a really strong honors program if that makes any difference. She got a pretty good offer from them, but GA had always been number 1 on her list and we agreed to pay the bill if she got accepted.
  7. Oldest is a freshman at UGA this fall. She has had a great experience so far. Comparing with other schools that her friends are at TN, MS, Aub, LSU, etc, the school/clubs have put a lot more effort into getting kids connected. She walked in knowing 2 people on campus and feels right at home at this point. It has its issues like the homeless population taking over downtown, parking issues, etc but she couldn’t be happier with her decision at this point.
  8. I don’t know the TX numbers, but the other state schools we looked at are enrolling more out of state kids now than in the past as a percentage. They are focusing on higher quality out of state to the detriment of non high performing local kids which may or may not be a positive depending on perspective. Should they cater to in state kids or shoot for the best of the best no matter where they come from?
  9. If you are driving on I40 and want Gus’ stop by the original in Mason. There is no reason to go to Memphis when you can hit that location.
  10. There isn’t much of anything can’t miss along that drive but there are plenty of tourist traps. I’ve driven most of it many times and live pretty much right in the middle of it. KY, you can stop and hit parts of the bourbon trail near I-65 or just go visit liquor stores, go by Churchill Downs, or hit Mammoth Caves. TN, you have Nashville and Memphis. AR, they redid the waterfront in Little Rock so there are some decent bars. You always have the bath houses in Hot Springs if it’s your thing.
  11. As much shit as he gets, I like having live shows to listen to. They are repetitive and they go back to the same well over and over, but I’m still going to listen if I’m in my car. I wasn’t a fan of the old version of the show, the over the top stuff never appealed to me. It’s going to suck when he hangs it up, because I haven’t found another show that replaces this one.
  12. This is one place where I will say UGA did it right. The entire rush process was run from their student center. You went there every morning and then everyone was taken by bus to the houses they were visiting that day. The entire rush process ran that way until after bid day was complete. They also grouped everyone by floor the first couple of days, so even if you didn’t all visit the same houses round one you were with at least some others on the floor at each house. Their houses are off campus although no more than a mile, but it kept 2000 17/18 year old girls from wandering through neighborhoods while they learned where to go.
  13. For those going out of state to a state school especially, make sure you and your kid are prepared for some hard times at the beginning no matter how independent they were/are. Oldest started two weeks ago and that first week or so was tough. She knew 2 other people on campus going in and was getting bombarded with things from her friends showing them in big groups together and having fun. There were more than a few times of rethinking her choices in life. She got through rush, classes started, and she remembered why she went there and it has gotten much better.
  14. Same issue I had, you can list them on StubHub. You just have to fill out the ticket information and then you transfer them to the seller from SeatGeek directly after they sell. When you list them it will ask where the tickets are held. People complain about the ticketing companies, but SeatGeek is a real piece of junk. It took digging through all sorts of links and chatbots to get to a phone number to call them.
  15. One of mine got an Escape the other got a Honda HRV. Both have done well for what they needed. They have held up well, are easy to park, are okay to drive on the interstates when they are going to visit friends at other colleges, etc. Dropped the oldest off at college last week. It has been a little tougher than I expected. She was my kid, so she was always available to go do something, eat something, try something, etc that her mom/sister had no interest in. She also had a constant group in the house daily so we have gone from feeding 5-7 every night down to 3. I’m good with it and was ready for her to go to college, but it’s definitely different and much quieter.
  16. Turtles/tortoises make terrible pets, their life expectancies are too long. They end up getting released into the wild (terrible idea and usually a death sentence) or sent to a “sanctuary” that is already over filled with “pets”. They are also not the cleanest animals around. Just say no.
  17. You do realize they aren’t giving it to the one that had the incorrect out of bounds deduction, right? It is going back to the original 3rd place finisher.
  18. Elsewhere, I put them on StubHub at a higher price a little while ago to see if someone would get me closer to what I had in them.
  19. I have 2 tickets, c334, row 1, aisle seats if anyone is interested. SeatGeek is a pain to relist them, plus you have the fees. I thought I would check here and see if there is any interest. $900 or best offer, which is well under what I have in them. College schedule has ended up conflicting with us going, so it is what it is.
  20. Thanks. I think we’ve narrowed it down to the South Congress/South 1st area, but I’ll look around North Campus also.
  21. I can do without walkable and Uber as needed if it works better location wise. We will have at least one vehicle so we can make it work. Again, looking at maybe going with the Lake Travis area and driving everywhere also, but wanted to see what locations made sense a lot closer. Cost is what it is. Daughter’s roommate has a close friend at UT so they are going either way, game/race cover both kids, fall break week for the youngest already, might meet a surly asshole, what more could you ask for. Edit to add, thanks to those with the serious replies. Looking at some of those areas now.
  22. It’s simple, defeating the Trump cult and the GQP’s social agenda outweigh everything else right now. I still believe in respect, country over party, helping your neighbor, etc and believe all of that outweighs any of my own self interests.
  23. AirBnB/VRBO rentals, not looking for hotels so neighborhood areas are fine. There is still plenty of availability at a significant cost. Want to make sure I don’t end up in some random ass area at a stupid cost.
  24. My oldest is at UGA and my youngest is all into F1 now, so we’re going to head to Austin for the game/race weekend plus a few extra days with a few of their friends. Where is the best place to stay that has some walkable places to eat and hang out? Looking at rentals we have looked at rentals in the downtown area on both sides of 35 and then also out by Lake Travis for something different. It’s been years since I have spent any time in Austin, so before I commit to an overpriced rental I thought I would see if there was some other area we were missing.
