  1. Farmer’ markets usually always have pickling cucumbers. We make batches of the refrigerator pickles. I think the cucumbers hold their texture better that way than true pickling.
  2. Same issue here, none at Kroger in a while. My wife started going to Walmart just to buy Claussen sandwich slices because they always seem to have them. She goes in and buys 3-4 jars and that’s all she gets.
  3. I think I should have accepted the fact that my kids schedules and the lake just don’t much work any more. My nephews kept it going the last couple of years, but 3 months and 15 hours on the boat is ridiculous. Think I may start looking for the bay boat I wanted and flip this thing at some point next year or just keep it for the limited times they want to get out.
  4. Just opened in Memphis, drove by it and was trying to place the name and then remembered this thread title. Based on the article above, sounds like better days may be behind them but I’ll stop in.
  5. Next step of the backyard is finally getting moving, 18x36 covered area with a fireplace on one end, kitchen on the other, and hip wall along the back. It’s a great time to be building, but we’re getting a little bit of a price break building a new master suite addition at the same time. Irma definitely going to be bigger than we need, but we had the space so decided to just go ahead with it.
  6. We’re about 15 hours from our place. Right after we bought it, we did a complete major exterior renovation/addition. It went fine, but we talked with our realtor about recommended contractors and then interviewed them and checked references. We were able to do most selections while there and did the others by email. I flew down about once a month to check on things and take care of any issues. The contractor sent pictures weekly and we set up an account locally he could draw his payments off of after I contacted the bank. The realtor also checked in a few times for us as well. All in all it went pretty smoothly, but I’m definitely glad we put in the front end work on finding the contractor. It helped it was a major project, we have had a harder time getting smaller things done consistently. The other thing we did was used the realtor to find a home watch person and landscaper. They have been a huge help. They check on things each week, send us pictures of any issues, and also schedule repairs if needed.
  7. A lot depends on the sports they play and how much travel ball they do or don’t play. Our kids were not involved in sports that impacted summers which made it great for us. We have a lake house that was used every weekend from the time our kids were born up until our oldest was 12 or 13. Then she got to the point she wanted to start going with others, staying home for friend get togethers, or school functions interfered. We bought a beach house a long way off around that time and now we pack them (16/13) up for the summers and take them down there. It gets them away from their friends for a period of time and forces them to do things together without being able to get out of it. We still go to the lake, but it’s gotten to the point that I’m probably going to let it go at some point soon. I put 12 hours on my boat this year although we will go the next few weekends before it cools off too much more. As they move on to college, I would prefer to sell the house we live in and I’ll just build a new house at the lake and commute, but that idea has gone nowhere.
  8. In TN where we are, there are none to be found. A few boxes of 4 shot and that is it. Gun guy at Academy said they haven’t kept any on the shelf longer than an hour or so for the last month or two. Found a buddy with some, going to have to look around next week to get ready for the next one.
  9. I’m going to have to start hoarding shotgun shells apparently. Have a skeet shoot tomorrow and another one in a couple of weeks and there are no shells to be found around me. Academy got a pallet this morning and they were gone in 20 minutes. Gander is apparently getting out of guns at least locally and they had a new Silver Pigeon at a good price. Think I may have to pick that up before it sells.
  10. He did say that he was taking the summer off and would be back on at some point after school started back when he started researching again. His wife may have killed him for not selling though. Just for the record I’ve lost my ass since entering Hank’s discord group, everything is about timing and clearly my timing is to be the perpetual bag holder.
  11. I’ve always had an interest in watches and kept up with the markets and everything around them. I just never could justify spending money on something I wore which is pretty apparent with my sparse wardrobe. Boats, cars, guns, etc had more use to me if I wanted to buy something I really didn’t need. After working on designing a new master closet that includes significant space for my wife’s purses/shoes/jewelry/etc, I decided that was dumb and if I wanted one to just get it.
  12. She bought a Datejust, she had been looking for a specific dial color but didn’t want to order it.
  13. Story was the same across multiple stores, so at least the company pitch has been rehearsed. Pretty sure the drop in production has also been widely discussed because of their shutdowns and material shortages and lines up with plenty of other manufacturers out there. Does not make me a whole lot of difference whether it was all company line bullshit or not, just passing along what multiple sales people said about 2020 production and what they were seeing on demand.
  14. They produced less than 40% of their normal volume last year which combined with demand through the roof has created a major Rolex shortage and increasing prices. My wife has been chasing a particular one for 9+ months with stops in 6-8 stores in multiple cities. The inventory has dropped over that period to the point where you may see 1-2 watches in store at most. She finally found one that was close enough last month in Naples and bought it. The sales people think it will be 2-3 years before it starts to catch back up. I haven’t seen any other watch manufacturer with that level of problem.
  15. I’m not sure what you’re arguing, but they have to issue 1099-K’s which is a 1099 type form for transactions processed above a threshold. 1099 is a classification for multiple types of 1099’s including INT, Misc, K, etc., there is no 1099 by itself if you want to debate semantics. They also are doing verifications on name and identifying numbers.
  16. PayPal has to issue 1099’s on activity as well as check identification numbers and names with the IRS database on business entities. If it doesn’t meet their verification process, it’s easier to kill it than investigate it. They also had too many people using the friends and family function and not paying fees as well as running fantasy and gambling activities not considered legal by certain entities to deal with all of the issues individually. You had a fake business set up to convert gift cards to cash using an invoicing system, that was never going to last.
  17. My two kids got their second shots over the weekend with virtually no issues (couple weeks late on the second because of their schedules.) The school they go to is over 60% in grades 7-12 with at least the first shot which is way higher than anyone expected. We are running at virtually no one out while the other local schools are averaging 15% of the population out a day with several districts shutting back down again. The numbers locally have been stupid high, but kids getting vaccinated and the school keeping most of the policies in place from last year have made a huge difference at least in our school.
  18. 9 months of the year in TN, 3 months in Sanibel, FL.
  19. Looks like we may be adding a CJ1 to go along with our Baron. The Baron has been great for quick trips with 1-2, but it just doesn’t have the space for anything over 2 unless you really like each other. It has also been extremely cost effective to fly at this point which is a huge plus. However, we keep running into issues of longer flights or needing to get more than 2 somewhere. After paying for use on a CJ1 that is part of our management company’s managed planes, I think partnering on one with someone is going to make sense so we can cover multiple travel options. It’s also crazy the number of clients we have now buying planes. Be interesting to see what that looks like when the economy flips at some point.
  20. As many miles as I put on a vehicle every year with a lot of those including my kids and dogs, that land yacht looks a hell of a lot better to me than that mini. Put an order for a base level Bronco, dealer thinks I may have it sooner than later since it has a soft top and few options. Going to put tires on it and leave it at the beach, it’s cheaper than a used jeep.
  21. Your take is ridiculous and you can always just not watch. I watch TV about once a week usually on Friday night, currently that is to watch Ted Lasso and then I watch Schmigadoon with my wife. Other times we’ll watch some other series on one of the subscription services or a movie, but I’m good for an hour or two on Friday and that is the extent of my time with the TV. Ted Lasso is perfect for that level of commitment, it’s always good for several laughs, I’m not invested enough to give a shit about story line inconsistencies, etc. The last episode was stupid especially coming out of the prior episode, but it still had the overall redeeming qualities that make Ted Lasso worth watching. The whole concept for the show is ridiculous in and of itself, so just watch it for 30 minutes of “entertainment.” If you really want a ridiculous concept, go watch Schmigadoon and try to explain that show.
  22. We ended up at about $90k for our gunite including heat/cool, autofills, and high end lighting. It is 16x40 or 16x42, I don’t remember which at the moment. That does not include the $30k plus in travertine work we had done.
  23. Not too much, change the oil annually, winterize if needed, change the impeller every other year, plugs and trans fluid every couple of years, etc. $500-$1000 annually at most for routine type maintenance. Anything from that year range is pretty easy to work on with pretty basic systems.
  24. We need more rain in SWFL like we need another kick in the nuts but looks like more is on the way. The water is higher around our house at the moment than I can remember it being the last several years.
  25. Looked at a 2 door Black Diamond full size Bronco while at the golf tournament today. I am seriously intrigued even more than I thought I would be. It stickered well optioned at $49k. The dealer has a base model reserved for me to use as a beach vehicle but I may have to move up models after looking st this one. They did an awesome job on the proportions and lines on it especially compared to the baby bronco.
