Shit’s terrible. Long term client just buried his 19 year old daughter last month. My kids cheered competitively with her growing up and said she had some problems transitioning to college and with her parents divorce. They know it was fentanyl, but no one knows the details.
-
Samsung we had at our beach place was terrible. The condensation line ran down the back of the freezer and would constantly freeze causing water to back up into the bottom of the fridge. We have had zero issues with the Sub we had before this remodel. It was an older model and still worked like new.

Kitchen remodels, my favorite thing. Hopefully, we’re two weeks out from being done. Decided to just go forward with it since we had the appliances. Fucking ridiculous what you it ended up costing, but it is what it is.

You know what is really great for breakfast? Breakfast tacos of course. You know what you should put on your breakfast tacos? The right answer is whatever the hell you want for breakfast on your taco or whatever is being served. I’ll take 2 (well, maybe 3) of whatever is available. I don’t care what variety they are because they are all good. I do prefer eggs just for the breakfasty aspect of it, but again give me what you have.

Rented from Hertz several times recently, they don’t tell you anything.

This, we spent 4 days in Moab and didn’t see anywhere near everything we wanted to see. We rented a Jeep and basically rode trails and hiked every day which means you aren’t seeing a large area but you are getting to really see an area. A lot depends on whether you are just trying to check a box on seeing something or if you really want to explore the area. With 10 days, I would pick an area or two and focus on them. Personally, I would fly into SLC and drive to Moab. Spend about half the time there and then drive south/west through Bryce/Zion and fly out of Vegas. We did Moab in July and it wasn’t busy, but it was a tad warm. Bryce/Zion we have always done in May and they haven’t been terrible yet. Anything later and it gets rough though. There is a lot to see/do/love about that area of the country. Think I have my wife sold on passing on another beach place and buying something out west instead.

Marina wins 10 times out of 10 when dealing with salt water unless you have a fairly newly built launch in your area which isn’t likely on the west coast of Florida. Launching boats in salt water is a hassle that is just completely different than lake/river launching. That hassle is compounded by the fact most of the ramps especially along the SW side of Florida are stacked up with people a lot of the time.
-
Bigger is better (at least to a point) when dealing with saltwater boats. I would go to the higher side of that range because Sarasota Bay is still a large body of water and the intercoastal is going to have large boats running it. Saltwater boats are worse than fresh water brands and trucks for that matter as far as people’s opinions about certain ones, so find what you like and what fits your needs. I would also look more at the dual consoles than strictly bow riders because you can get some cross over usage. You really can’t go wrong with any of the 22-24 foot DC’s, so I would find a dealer / service center near you that’s easy to work with even if you are buying used. I’ve been out in the GW Freedom 235 and the Everglades version and have looked at the Robalo, Scout, and Boston Whaler and they are all personal preference on the minor details. I decided pretty quickly they wouldn’t work for what we like to do and a bay boat made more sense.
-
We spend our time a couple hours south of you. There are a ton of options all across the price ranges that will work in your area. Do you fish? Do you have prior boating experience? Where you are at, there is no way I would go with anything in the 33 foot range for what you mentioned above unless you are going out overnight or spending time off shore. It’s too shallow and tide dependent, something in the 24-26 foot range will do most everything in that area. I’m always going to lean towards a bay boat, but if you don’t fish a dual console style boat would be much more comfortable for cruising and sandbar hopping.

We’ve looked at several that were out the door under $200k. Wife was convinced that was what she wanted next, I finally said no. Most of my offices are in smaller towns and it felt like a little much for her to be showing up in.
-
This was their best shot, the money is coming due quickly and it’s going to be difficult to defer it much further.
-
There’s no way you give Mahomes the ball on the 3rd series with a chance to win it. You needed a TD whether you deferred or took the kick.
-
Shanahan didn’t cause the fumble, the botched punt return, the missed XP, the run of injuries, or the Oline letting Chris Jones absolutely blow them up on a couple of key downs. It didn’t sound like the players were prepared for the OT rules which is on him. However, I would take him as my team’s coach tomorrow over just about anyone else out there. You have to get there to have a shot at losing it.
-
These debates are fucking stupid, it worked out well for both of them that they came together when they did. Neither would have done what they did the last 5 years without the other, but they both would have likely been successful. They just wouldn’t have been at this level. As far as the OT decisions, this isn’t college or high school or the regular season. It was the right call by Shanahan. Your team had to score a TD either way against Mahomes, it was best to give the D a rest and have the ball on the 3rd series. When they didn’t get the TD, it was over.

Stopped by today, went with Migas and a breakfast #1 for lunch. Both were pretty good. Looks like they have rolled out a number of new menu items since last time I stopped in along with some price increases, but I may stick with the breakfast taco for a while.

To be fair, anything over 29 feet in the Cobalt line is an express cruiser rather than a tow boat and even the ones under that aren’t what I would call tow boats. A 10 foot wide, 33 foot boat with a cabin definitely doesn’t qualify. As far as the pricing, any dumbass paying $400k for a Tige gets what they deserve and probably isn’t doing a whole lot of towing anyways. I bought a brand new SANTE 210 off the lot for $110k 3 years ago and ended up hating being out on it. I spent more time worrying about something happening to it and less time actually enjoying it, so it lasted about a year before I sold it. The electronic everything was nice, but I couldn’t figure out half of it. The best part was the day I got home with it, I pulled up to the ramp and couldn’t find the key. I called the sales guy late afternoon on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend trying to find it and he was like, it’s push button like it was just some common sense thing. Enter 0000 and hit start. I much preferred the prior $20k-$40k models that I didn’t have to worry about and I could work on myself.

If you want to get in the upper tier schools, it matters at this point. Between internships, jobs, camps, etc everything comes into play when evaluating applicants and it becomes more important with the highly selective schools and majors.
-
Undercover Ultraflex pops off easily, you fold it up to the window and it lifts out of the tracks. I can take it off by myself, getting it in and out of the truck bed is the only challenging part by yourself.

The lady we worked with eliminated some AP courses in favor of others, but she pushed doing at least 6 AP’s. She was also very specific on ones to not take like AP US History because it wasn’t accepted by a number of colleges and in her view it required too much time commitment for the credit. She pushed AP Euro History for those they wanted a history credit. She also advised our daughter to not do any AP math classes because she was weak in math and double up on the English/Lit where she was strong where she would make an A and a 5. It was a very interesting process overall.

Sound advice, a large part of the process with the counselor our daughter worked with was on the financial aspect. She felt it was easier for her to have the conversations than what parents would. Early in the process she wanted preferred budgets, stretch budgets, and then the limits and then she works with the kids to find schools in those ranges that have degree programs they are interested in. NE private schools are pretty outrageous and only give financial based assistance based on the ones we looked at. Most were cutting off in the low to mid $100’s on income limits if I remember correctly. Daughter looked pretty hard at some of the upper tier ones before going a different direction.

2024 Weight Loss/Exercise Thread
Brew replied to Storm the Field's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
On the cardiologist discussion above, I would highly recommend seeing a good one. I go twice a year and do a full work up annually including stress tests, CT’s, etc. He’s been able to keep an eye on some issues and make changes along the way. I have to find a trainer going forward I think. After another elbow surgery and with knee surgeries in my future I can’t find a work out regimen that works for me. I dropped 40 pounds quickly after getting my heart issues resolved, but I’m bouncing around 255 now and can’t get consistent enough workouts in to be meaningful. Was down the month of January after this last elbow procedure that is probably going to cause long term pain/soreness, so I’m not really looking forward to restarting. Going to get back into yoga to try to increase flexibility/elasticity some to start with. Getting old sucks, especially when it kicks in during your esrly/mid 40’s. -
The only real difference between vacation/2nd home is whether you are renting it and the distance from your main place. We had a lake house at the same time we had the place at the beach and outside of a very specific rental deal we fell into at the beach did not rent either. The lake house was close and got used more frequently, the beach house was a long ways off and got used for longer periods of time. For us, the beach house was easier to justify and was more of what we were looking for because we would actually get away with the kids for long periods including the entire summers. It got to where we would go to the lake for the day or maybe the weekend, but the kids would opt out or they would bring multiple friends with them. It became more of a hang out spot for the which was fine, but it wasn’t a place for the family to get away together as they got a little older. We rarely are trips to without friends once they were past 10 or so which meant they didn’t really spend any time together doing anything. At the beach they were locked up together for up to 2 months at a time which helped their relationship out long term. We also where there with no one else so there was a lot more family game time, movie time, eating together every meal, etc. than what we had at the lake house that was only an hour from the house. There are always people around to take care of things at the place in a vacation spot. We had a couple that did the landscaping, house cleaning, stopped by 1-2 a week to check everything, did repairs, etc for what was really a pretty reasonable fee. The older people that lived in the neighborhood also kept an eye on things so we never worried about that house. We constantly worried about the lake house because no one was there, the houses around it were all weekend places, etc so I spent a lot more time running back and forth between our place and it checking things out. The easiest thing we have or have had is land. Bushhog parts of it occasionally or have someone do it and just show up. We went the shop route there with a small attached place, so there just isn’t much to worry about with it.

My oldest has been accepted everywhere she applied including some super low acceptance rate schools with scholarship offers at all but the one she is apparently attending. Most of those acceptance notifications have been over other kids that have applied with higher ACT scores. However, she has been all honors/AP (all 4/5’s at this point) and most of them have not. Course selection/rigor is pretty much rated high by every school on the common data set which means you need to take the hardest courses offered. I also think applying to the less popular programs as well as having really great essays/community involvement made the difference for her. Everyone is applying business, premed, engineering, etc. from what we could tell. She applied English with a plan to go to law school and went 35/34 on the ACT in English/Reading and 5’s on those AP’s to support that degree path which had to make a difference.

I’ve had multiple Ultra Cover Under Flex covers and have found zero reason to buy a different one every time I trade. They seal great all the way around including the tail gate, they don’t leak, they are easy to fold, when folded up against the back window there is very little overhang into the bed, they are easy to pop off when you need to remove it, etc. Through I’m it sure how many trucks I’ve had (up until this Bronco) within a few days of purchase I would get that bed cover, LineX, Fox Stage 1 and tires (Coopers on the last 3-4), tint the windows, and that would be it.

Ann Arbor / Detroit (Y'all are coming for the UT-UM game, right?)
Brew replied to choripan's topic in Food and Travel
Flew into Ann Arbor last summer for a college visit with my oldest. It was a college town in the summer so take this for what it’s worth, but man the college area didn’t leave that great an impression. If I was going and looking for things to do, Detroit would be my pick.
