Texas Basketball Recruiting Notes: It's Miller Time
This is by far the most legit criticism of AAU. I’m a Mavs fan, so I love Luka, but he plays like James Harden. Almost no one would argue Harden plays the game “the right way” and yet Luka is somehow the face of European “fundamental greatness” taking over.

Honestly, I’m open to the possibility, I just need more info to buy into it. There’s a lot of factors at play. I could be underestimating the Chet hype, I just remember he wasn’t even the consensus #1 guy until relatively late in that recruiting cycle. (You can check the 247 composite rankings history) He got that perfect rating late too. I also think his class wasn’t as good as the one Flagg is in, which is why I don’t see ranking or draft slot as the end all be all.

Got you on the Europe thing. Still don’t know if I agree that white players in diverse areas fair worse (that’s the point I was originally replying to). Chet is from a diverse area. A player goes number 1 every year, they aren’t all Lebron James. Some drafts are better than others, some graduating classes are better than others. I don’t think simply comparing a rank or a draft slot is all that useful. It’s just a discussion, no need to be a dipshit.

You think the reason there are Central/Eastern Europeans thriving in the NBA is because the countries are really white? By that logic, we’d have more White American superstars too, because there’s still a shit ton of super white areas here. There are 20+ 5 stars every year and like 50+ high 4 stars, it’s actually not as special as it sounds. Flagg is on a different level. And I’m not talking about ratings services anyways, I’m talking NBA hype. Flagg is already moving the needle in NBA circles in a way Chet never did. Edit: Also, Chet is from Minneapolis, which goes against your theory anyway. Minneapolis is not some lily white city.

I don’t know if your point is true, but I do know the sample size is probably too small to draw a solid conclusion. There aren’t very many top white American basketball prospects overall. And there have been none I can think of to the level of Cooper Flagg since Bird. Off the top of my head though, Walker Kessler is from Atlanta and he was a 5-star coming out of high school and just finished top 3 in rookie of the year voting.

Its almost like worrying about the numbers before anyone even commits is stupid.

This is as bad of a top 25 as Rivals or ESPN has ever done. Just look at some of these guys offer lists. Yeah, the logic is not consistent here.

Lol, the dad was just decked out in Texas gear from the beginning.

Aggy 2024: Still waiting on the Looch 44
aggy drops a bag and pulls off a shocker every cycle. Rather it be a WR out of Alabama than one of the top targets we’re pursuing.

Not really. It’s only 4 and one of those is the punter.

247’s rankings are ass this cycle, they don’t even have Simmons as top 5 in-state. That is completely indefensible. Wesco is not the best player in the state, that ranking is nonsense, but Wesco’s sister was a soccer player at OU. He was considered a lock there until OU fired their soccer coach and his sister decided to transfer. It was too late for us by then though, Wesco had cream and red goggles on for much of his recruitment, so I doubt there was much of a relationship with the Texas staff by the time the OU stuff went down.

I can give a pass to a 2A high school. Not to a power 5 program that was still only 4 years removed from a national championship appearance.

If Swoopes had went to an actual functioning program, he would’ve been moved to TE a week after showing up on campus, and would have at least been decent there. But our QB situation was so dire that we kept him at a position he had no business playing in college.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls
It was just all about want to. He didn’t want to play defense at the college level, and if the motivation isn’t there, then having him at TE was for the best. If he wanted to play defense as much as he did offense, then yeah, I’m in the same boat as you.

LJH was listed as ATH, but yes, everyone knew he’d be a WR. Jatavion Sanders was the #1 ATH of his recruiting class and that was very much legit as he easily could’ve ended up on defense. In fact, that’s where most people wanted him at the time.

It’s easier to win when that’s ALL you care about. Always been that way.

They’re pretty desperate for experience, Cal has not figured out the transfer portal. They were in danger of having a team with basically nothing but freshmen on it until like a week or two ago.

Texas Basketball 2023-24
Johnson being in the fold rounds out the roster nicely. As far as Holland, he’s obviously a big loss, but next years NBA draft class is expected to be historically bad. Holland is is being penciled in at 1 because they literally can’t find someone who deserves it in a normal year and he at least has some measurables. In actuality, that shit is wide open. Anyone who has a breakout year could rise up to number one.

We know Cruz is a priority, but it seems like it’s first come first serve with some of these other interior guys.
