  1. Y'all think they supersized their double big mac meals? Seriously, if we're going to allow dumbshits to carry assault rifles in public, then at least make it illegal to carry them in the ready position. Slung over shoulders with the barrel pointing straight up or down, unloaded.
  2. TIL that as a private person dOTarD buys a lot of John Deere products.
  3. whats all this bullshit about kamala saying she worked at a mcdonalds?
  4. They "take" jobs that Americans don't want or do. They work fucking hard at those jobs. They pay income taxes on those wages. They pay SS taxes on those wages even though they will never see a dime of SS income. They pay sales tax, they pay property taxes through renting. They sometimes might get "free" healthcare at the emergency room, but so do many Americans. They prevent our country from spiraling into a demographic hole due to low birthrates. They bring delicious food recipes. (An African woman sells African food at my local farmer's market. Probably twice a month or so I feast on delicious rice and fish stew, or on beef and goat kebab. And its cheap.) They often have higher vaccination rates than Americans. They commit violent crimes at lower rates than Americans. I say Bring em on!
  5. Confederacy of Dunces is an all time favorite. I literally laugh out loud every time I read it. Catcher in the Rye- Loved it as a teen. Reread it and thought damn, this Holden dude is a fucking dipshit asshole. That's the brilliance of the book, imo. You identify with Holden as a yout, you can't stand him as an adult.
  6. Damn, a ski team, who knew? I water skied a lot during HS and college on Lake Travis and Canyon Lake. But never on a team. In college, I had a friend whose family had a boat on Canyon Lake. We'd get up before dawn, drive down, put on wet suits, and ski early in the morning, pretty much anytime of the year, for a few hours, then haul ass back to the 40 for our first class, smelling like mildewy wet suits.
  7. If those are actual hs volleyball games, and not actors, I can see lawsuits in ol' Ted's future.
  8. avatar does not check out. Seriously, a little herb could help with the chemo side effects.
  9. The point of the article is not to tell OG firms what they already know.
  10. I'm generally against the death penalty, but this fuck Goines and his crew deserve it as much as anybody.
  11. My daughter got into chess for a while. I taught her using No Stress Chess. She quickly got tired of playing with me because every time I drew a pawn card, I would say "Mongo pawn in game of life."
  12. Yet another example of privatizing the profit and socializing the cost. Unless of course the O&G firm that owns the pipeline makes everyone whole. And soon, not after years of legal bullshit where they finally settle for pennies on the dollar.
  13. Which is why ballots shouldn't have an R or D or I (or whatever) next to names. I will admit this would make my voting more difficult because I swore back in 2016 or thereabouts that I would never ever vote for an R again. But I'm willing to do the research before I go vote.
  14. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/18/us/politics/vance-trump-fascist.html Vance complains about Democrats using "fascist". Trump uses it often. “Look, we can disagree with one another, we can debate one another, but we cannot tell the American people that one candidate is a fascist and, if he’s elected, it is going to be the end of American democracy,” Mr. Vance said at a Georgia Faith & Freedom Coalition dinner. Mr. Trump has called Ms. Harris a “fascist” on at least five occasions, including at a rally on Thursday in Arizona and during a news conference on Friday near Los Angeles. “She’s a Marxist, communist, fascist, socialist,” Mr. Trump said in Tucson, Ariz. At the dinner on Monday, Mr. Vance said that “no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months.” The vice president has been the target of violent threats while in office.
  15. I dated a Delta-Delta-Delta in college. Is that the same thing? If so this hits close to home about 40 years ago.
  16. this is interesting: It also served to raise awareness about the dangers of Burmese pythons, like how they have high mercury levels that are dangerous for human consumption. Assuming the carcasses are properly disposed of, the snakes' removal can reduce mercury levels in the environment.
  17. I work for a 4 yr university, and this is all correct with a few minor updates: Its now up to the rule of 84. I'm grandfathered into the rule of 80 however. And it used to be the avg of three highest salaries, now its avg of five highest. What fucks a lot of people on defined benefit plans is that if they also are eligible to collect SS, their SS payment is reduced because of their retirement pay. I'm not sure how that works, but it can screw you pretty good if you aren't aware of it when you are working. edit to add: You can select various payout schemes: as mentioned above you can reduce your payout and your surviving spouse continues to get your pension after you die. You can also reduce your payout by alot more, and a surviving dependent of your choice, but only one, continues to get your pension until they die. I think you also (I need to check on this) can continue on your employers insurance (mine is actually not bad), without their contribution of course, if you retire before the age of medicare.
