Why Can't I Quit You, Austin?
I used to lifeguard at BSP. I'd have to open up a few times at 5 am, even in the winter. If I was 5 minutes late, there would be a line at the entrance of pissed off olds. If I was 15 minutes late, the olds would start climbing the fence. The thought of one of them falling a breaking a hip because I was late was pretty good motivation to get there on time. Anyway, I did a lot of polar plunges during the winter at 5:05 am. Nothing wakes you up and kills that hangover better. When its really cold outside, the water is warmer than the air, and you don't feel the cold until you get out of the water. But yes, I miss BSP more than anything else about not living in Austin any longer. Except perhaps Hamilton's Pool.

Trivial Things That Make You Surly
Yeah, same same for me. Bald, white, oldish, live in rural Texas, drive a pick up, wear cowboy boots fairly often, talk with a Texan drawl. Cowboy hat if out in the sun for extended periods of time (which is fairly frequently because of my job). I generally keep my politics to myself (irl at least), unless the other guy brings it up first. I'm old school in the sense that you don't talk politics or religion except to close friends/family. That's getting harder and harder to live by as shit keeps getting worse and worse. Cuts both ways, both conservatives and liberals mistake me for a conservative. Sometimes its funny, sometimes its annoying. Most times, whatever.

The Slate makes 201 horsepower to the rear wheels, though zero to the front. This, to me, is the biggest negative I've seen so far. But I'd still consider it as a commuter vehicle.

OK, 5 miles per hour of charging. My commute is ~10 miles (one way). So I could charge in 4 or 5 hours my commute plus a trip to the store. If I pick up a load of bricks or something, maybe that doubles to 10 hours of charge time. Still very doable. Park in the driveway. plug in. 10 hours later, I'm ready to leave for work, battery charged enough to get me to work and home and a few errands. Assuming the thing is reliable as an ICE vehicle, it makes sense to buy one as a daily commuter vehicle. Not getting the hate on this thing. Its no more or less dorky than half the POS I see on the road.

Fair enough. Even less if you run the AC I'm sure. But still less than a commute. Plug it in when you get home, ready to go the next day. Could fully charge it on a 110 V plug in 6 or 8 hours probably.

I wonder if the 150 mile range is with AC on or off? Probably off, I'm guessing.

Aren't Hilux's basically Tacomas? Because my 95 Tacoma that I drove to the moon (250K + miles), was indestructible.

Bingo. 150 mile range is fine if you only use it for errands and commuting. This isn't supposed to replace a "work truck". It isn't supposed to replace a "my penis is small" truck. If it fits an 8 x 4 foot piece of plywood, that's big enough for 90%+ of all truck "needs". If I need more or bigger than that, I get it delivered. So, I'll let some other suckers buy it first, and if it ends up being reliable, I'll buy it. But the question remains, 4, 2, or AWD?

Looks a lot like my old 95 Tacoma. 4, 2, or AWD? I'd buy one, but as a general rule, I never buy new cars.
