  1. I have a friend with a small plane. I've ridden in it probably 10 times in 20 years or so. We're both nearing 60, and I've begun to wonder what I would do if he had a massive coronary suddenly I mean if that happened in a car, I could steer from the passenger seat, shift to Neutral, maybe use the emergency brake to slow down.
  2. I think I could handle the cold. The 24 hours of darkness in the winter might get old though.
  3. Not sure where to post this. I wonder if Greenland accepts American seeking asylum? https://www.newsweek.com/greenland-trump-permit-extraction-2075673 Greenland Signs Lucrative Minerals Deal with Europe in Blow to Trump Greenland has sparked international attention since President Trump expressed his interest in acquiring the Arctic island rich in minerals, oil and natural gas. Greenland's Mineral Resources Minister Naaja Nathanielsen said that U.S. interest in the island has not resulted in any investment and the deal signals that business dialog with European partners was progressing more quickly.
  4. Maybe she meant 24 hours in a single year? fixy
  5. Well, not if funding for that very successful program has been DOGE'd. Similar programs are done to control mosquitos, or at least were once done.
  6. You sure grandma wasn't making the most of the weekdays?
  7. This is going to be an order of magnitude worse than it already is because of mass shortages of Ivermectin. Thanks Obama Biden!
  8. Despite being a science major I took Forgie's civil war class. Girlfriend talked me into it. Hardest I ever worked for a C.
  9. Messed with the wrong dude
  10. I think I'll pick up a copy of "The Last White Farmer" by Anders VanderPloot, the harrowing story of a family of Afrikaner famers in South Africa who have their land seized their lives threatened by savages, only to find redemption and safety when they are allowed to buy a small farm in Ohio.
  11. Can confirm. I was working on a ranch outside of Laredo about 20 years ago. I was walking in thick grass and somehow disturbed a nest of Africanized bees. I don't know exactly what I did, but suddenly I was getting stung on my face and neck. I Usain Bolt-ed it back to my truck (in work boots and snake chaps). Thank god that 1) the door wasn't locked, and 2) the windows were rolled up. I out ran them back to the truck, but they followed me and quickly caught up. I have no doubt that they would have outlasted me if my truck had been much further away. They followed the truck for probably half a mile, until I got to pavement and could out run them. I had about 9 or 10 stings total on my face, neck, left hand and left arm. My lefthand swelled up like and my fingers looked like bloated sausages. I took some benadryl and had the epipen ready to go just in case, but ended up not needing it. Called the land owner later and gave him the GPS coordinates of the hive. He said he'd get the flamethrower out and kill those fuckers with fire.
  12. not too bad. Little sore, but ok. Thanks for asking.
  13. Kennedy initially dismissed the outbreak as “not unusual,” before touting vitamins A and D, administered via cod liver oil, as a possible treatment. Soon after, unvaccinated children began showing up in Texas hospitals with vitamin A toxicity. Health professionals told HuffPost they don’t recommend parents provide supplements like cod oil, which is unregulated and subject to inconsistent dosing, to children. I did not have vitamin A toxicity on my bingo card
  14. growing up, our neighbor had a goat. Maybe once a month or so it would get out and chase me and my sister home from the bus stop. Then it would fuck with our dog. Although, once it got its horns caught in the fence that divided our and the neighbor's place. Our dog took the opportunity for some payback. Plus, it will moonscape your yard or wherever you keep it. You like living in a dust bowl? Because that is what a goat will get you. Fucking hate goats.
  15. Last night I saw about 15 or so very bright (as in as bright as the brightest star) satellites move in a line, one after another. Started just above the NW horizon, got brighter, then faded out before they got overhead. Each one was visible for maybe 5 minutes total. There would be three or four in the sky at a time. Probably lasted 20 or 30 minutes. They all followed the same track. Am I seeing Starlink satellites fucking up the night sky?
  16. Old growth hardwood is already almost impossible to (hand) nail.
  17. Do they still hang navy types from the yardarm? Because that captain should be hung from the yardarm.
  18. This isn't a problem with just Austin. Its well known that it is almost impossible to build any major infrastructure on time and on budget anywhere in the US. Bridges, electrical transmission lines, pipelines, highways, mass transit, etc. Its a problem everywhere.
  19. Well, to be fair, the lege has been busy destroying public education, keeping trans out of the wrong bathroom, and giving tax breaks to oligarchs. They can't do everything.
  20. Nobody answered your question, that I saw. Yes, you need two trees of different varieties. And yes, it will take a number of years before you get fruit. If you do start to get fruit, you will probably want to cover with a bird net. Corn, being a grass, is wind pollinated. Which means you need to have a large area, square area. A row or two won't pollinate very well or at all. Soon enough they won't care about the snakes anymore either. Move em around, and trade em out with each other might help. Birds are smart yo. Especially crows and mocking birds. Seems the bigger and more obnoxious the bird, the smarter they are.
