  1. Oh, they need drivers. Badly. But with all the school shootings and everything else fucked up about today's society, I bet its probably becoming more common.
  2. I'm not retired, but long ago I was a volunteer DJ at the local NPR station. Then one day, a friend who is a teacher called me up and said the district needed a stadium PA announcer for home football games, and suggested I would have a good voice for it. So, I talked to the AD, and got hired on the spot. That led to working the game clock at basketball games and other crap like that. The pay ain't great, something like 25 bucks a game for middle school games, 35 for JV games, 50 for varsity, but being the PA announcer at home football games in a small Texas town is fun.
  3. My daughter (8th grade) rides the bus home maybe once a week or so. Normally she has afterschool stuff. But, all the buses, in addition to a driver, have a teacher or other district employee on the bus who is responsible for all the bullshit, plus making sure the kids get off at the right stop. So, it sounds like the driver doesn't have to deal with any of that. Plus, she says this bus monitor is a grade A, hardcore bitch. Every time she rides the bus, she gets off complaining about how mean the bus monitor is. I just shrug and say "good. That's why she's the bus monitor." Back to the OP, bus drivers also drive the athletes or other school groups to away games and events. They get mileage while driving and min wage for down time (sitting around during the game or whatever).
  4. In college I had a friend who drove a shuttle limo for a nice hotel in Austin (don't really remember which one). Whenever he had the chance, and his and my schedule worked out, he'd swing by my house and take me to campus. The cops at the traffic stops would let us right on through. He'd drop me right in front of Welch or wherever. The looks I would get getting out of the car. Probably only happened four or five times, but it was fun.
  5. Since this is the surl, I'm just going to say it: Sounds like heaven. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. In other words, fuck yes you go to all the practices, unless you are legitimately sick.
  6. I remember Charles Barkley telling a story: "I told my mama that I was a Republican. She said 'Charles, Republicans are only for rich people.' I said 'Ma, I'm rich.'"
  7. somebody, security, body guards, concerned citizen, somebody should have stood up and kicked that shithead's ass right then and there.
  8. Kurt Russel??!!??!! NOOOOOOOOOO..........
  9. Two questions: 1) haven't overdose deaths been rising everywhere, including in states that have draconian drug enforcement? 2) isn't the point of decriminalization less crowded prisons, not lower rates of drug deaths?
  10. Hey hey hey. Lake Travis Elementary alum here. But that was before the high school was built, and we were part of Dripping Springs ISD.
  11. It probably means that neuron activity increased rapidly ("spiked") when the implant was... implanted. If I "implanted" a screwdriver into your skull, your neuron activity would "spike" as well. Either that, or he's just making shit up, like always.
  12. Concerts getting shot up or car bombed. Teen girls wearing Taylor shirts getting harassed, beaten, raped, killed. You know, the usual.
  13. He'll blame her for the lack of security on Jan 6. Chorus: And the Trumpanzees will believe it.
  14. Speaking of dumbasses reaching across fences to pet dogs.... My 13 year old daughter reached across a four foot high fence on Sunday to pet a fucking TIBETAN MASTIFF, and got bitten on the hand. Ripped a huge U-shaped piece of skin back, not off, of the palm of her hand. When I folded the skin back onto her palm, you could see a perfect outline of the dogs jaw. Five stitches and lots of hysterical screaming later, she'll be ok. Luckily, no damage to tendons or anything other than skin, so it should heal up fine. Also luckily its track season, and not volleyball or softball season, so injury won't affect sports.
  15. my dating strategy could be summed up as "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
  16. "mating strategies fail, for a variety of social reasons..." social reasons like neck beards, misogyny, doritos stains on your fingers....
  17. What's the over under on how many surgeries she's had?
  18. I borrowed a co-workers car a few months back. She has a handicapped plate. When I returned to work, I parked in her normal handicapped spot. As I walked back into the building with my perfectly healthy, perhaps even athletic stride, I felt like I had a target on my back.
  19. That sounds really familiar. Can't quite remember who that reminds me of... some sort of cult or something...
