1) Jozy Altidore's wife, SLOANE STEPHENS, is an American tennis player less than 1 year older than the daughter of the Buffalo Bills' owners, JESSICA PEGULA, who is also a top American professional tennis player. Sloane & Jessica have likely known each other for the better part of 2 decades and are probably decent friends, at the very least. They have both gotten married in the last 2-3 years and can likely relate to each other pretty well. A good fit for someone that you are bringing on board the mothership.
2) Like Vince Carter (6 seasons) and Tracy McGrady (3 seasons), Jozy Altidore played professionally in Toronto (6 1/2 seasons), which is right across the water from Buffalo.
3) The Pegulas are trying to get local funding assistance to build a new stadium. The Buffalo locals aren't too excited about it. Perhaps getting Canadians to consider building a new stadium for the NFL's first overseas franchise is part of the plan.
Looking at all of the obvious reasons first, I think that bringing Jozy onboard is a pretty logical decision if the owners are trying to give themselves as many options as possible going forward.
And I didn't mention that the three new minority owners give additional meaning to the term "minority owner". That could be a plus when looking for former Toronto athletes who are friends of the family.
