  1. There is no reason to expect an even larger split when MMP has fairly neutral park factors. Also, the home-road xwOBA split in 2016 for the Astros is similar to 2017. I think the most you could plausibly argue is that the Astros got like a .002-0.003 bump in wOBA for the season from their cheating - the same gap separating the 18th and 19th teams that season in wOBA.
  2. No, he doesn't get into that. He does say it's unclear if the Astros were sign stealing in the playoffs.
  3. This is what democracy looks like.
  4. Yeah, it's certainly an advantage to know ahead of time the type of pitch you will be encountering. However, for a hitter to take advantage, he has to listen for the signal and process that information in a fairly short period of time, which takes the hitter out of his normal routine in the box and may make it difficult for him to concentrate on the coming pitch. It would not be surprising if those things detracted substantially from the benefit of that knowledge.
  5. It is odd. I'm sure it must confer some type of benefit even if it's not clear from the underlying performance. Maybe they expected that benefit to be greater than it was or maybe they just didn't a give a fuck and assumed they would never get caught. We're talking about the GM that had to be talked out of drafting that pedo pitcher from Oregon after all.
  6. Well if we're allowed to make unsubstantiated assumptions then i'm just gonna assume everyone else was cheating way worse than the Astros and actually the Astros are the real victims here.
  7. This is silly. The Astros' xwOBA for all home games in 2017 (regular season and playoffs) was .333 and .345 on the road. Thus, they actually hit worse at home than on the road, which indicates that whatever benefit they received from cheating was probably pretty fucking small.
  8. Luhnow seems to operate with that Bain/McKinsey type ethos where the question of whether or not you should break rules or cross some type of ethical/moral boundary is totally dependent upon whether doing so advances your primary goal of increasing short-term profitability/winning. If it will help you win and you are either unlikely to be caught right away or the penalty for being caught is outweighed by the advantages of cheating then you cheat. Luhnow is good at his job but I would never cheer or stan for someone like that.
  9. Rob Arthur is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers/analysts. Really interesting read and illustrates how brazen the Astros were with this system.
  10. I wish there was a candidate who would retweet this. Israel murdered eight kids this week but what's really important are those glorified Hobby Lobby rockets.
  11. Please do not both sides this shit. Israeli causalities are absolutely minuscule compared to Palestinian casualties. Gaza is an open air prison and Israel is an apartheid state. These are facts.
  12. You don't sound like a psychopath at all bro.
  13. Some of y'all should just come out and say you support the coup and the violence that is a direct result of it. Like the anti-anti-Trumpers, the anti-anti-coupers are the lowest of the low - people on the wrong side bereft of the conviction to admit what they support.
  14. imo, Trump's biggest failure as POTUS is not locking this bitch up.
  15. Just let the pitchers wear a watch or something to receive the signs. It can’t be that difficult to work out.
  16. Lmao
  17. If you are relying on those stats to say certain hitters had better batting lines at home than on the road in the postseason that year, then yes it would be. If you are relying on it as evidence that the Astros benefited from cheating, then no it’s not.
  18. And what? It’s a statement of fact.
  19. lol 70 ABs means shit for those kinds of stats. You have no idea how many ABs it takes for them to begin to stabilize.
  20. What conclusions did I draw? The Astros were the best team last season, but it didn’t have anything to do with that.
  21. For one, those stats don’t stabilize within those samples, so you’re just comparing noise at home versus noise on the road.
  22. Sucks for Cole that he didn’t get the award he deserved to win. Verlander had a better argument last year than this year for the CY.
  23. Lmao at using home road splits from the postseason. That is fucking stupid.
  24. Doing big crimes and not serving a day in jail isn't stupid.
  25. Instead of voting this sack of shit to be the Democratic nominee, is there any way we can vote to airdrop him into Gaza so he can get a taste of Israel "defending" itself?
