I live in a small town that employs a lot of railroaders. My guess would be at least 40% of our population is either employed by, retired from, or has immediate family who draws a check from BNSF. Many of those currently employed are good friends of mine, so I see how their quality of life has been affected for the worse.
I work for the federal government and am the vice steward for my office...so I sympathize with the conductors and engineers. That said, a HUGE majority of the railroaders are flag waving Trumpanzees, and they filled social media daily praising Trump for the Dec 2018-Jan 2019 government shutdown. While that wasn't a labor issue, it still sticks in my craw the cheering and laughing that took place while I was still having to go to work for 35 days without getting paid. I kept screen shots of the assholes who did it and I briefly considered dishing out a little comeuppance...but it wouldn't really be sincere in the long run.
Long story short - some railroaders are assholes but I still support the group on a whole.
