  1. I'm selling my house and in cleaning up found the never used china my ex in-laws insisted we take. Ex didn't want. Nobody I know wanted it. Goodwill begrudgingly took it. I hope there's some family eating Mac and cheese off of it.
  2. I think these contestants overestimate how far 500k before taxes gets you. They all say some variant of "if I win I'm gonna buy a ranch to help teach kids outdoor skills, get my mom a house and take care of my autistic kid that'll be set for life..." I know they live in the country where shit is cheaper but the 325k they're getting after taxes is gonna go quickly.
  3. But think of the stories he could tell that none of us could even imagine. Growing up in the Depression, fighting WW2, watching aggy win a championship...
  4. You're 100% correct but how much is that $200 you're gonna collect worth to you? I know it's the principle but it looks like that 200 is going to cost you a lot of pussy down the road. To be clear I'd tell her cheap ass freeloading friend to suck it and pay up, but then I'm divorced so maybe not the best source. Think of me as the George Costanza of happy marriages.
  5. $100 is a big number? And you're absolutely right, should be split equally 3 ways, or 2/8, 3/8, 3/8 for the 2 night couple
  6. I bet it was a dolphin. Those fuckers are big Baylor fans.
  7. It might be the gummy kicking in, but if we somehow caught lightning in a bottle, Mitchell would pull a Ken Norton jr and win 3 straight titles with 2 different teams. I assume with transfer rules being what they were, nobody alive has won 3 straight college football titles, unless there's some really old guy that played for Minnesota from 1934-36.
  8. Wait, they look at grades? Like high school grades? I don't remember grades coming up much when I was going through rush. Granted it was the 80s and fraternity rush, but damn. I just assumed sorority rush was some internal super secret ranking scale of hot, daddy's money, and legacy, with different sororities giving different weight to each metric
  9. It's all just empty bravado until he writes on a board "everybody that wants to beat bama on 9/9 meet here at 3:00".
  10. Friend and I were in Amsterdam in 1991 and had no idea if we tipped in the hash bar so we threw a few guilders on top. Dude looked at us like we were insane and handed the extra back while shaking his head at the stupid Americans. I actually think we offended him.
  11. Same. Call me old man yelling at clouds but I too refuse to tip for plain old counter service. Another thing I noticed recently is I went to a restaurant the other day and saw our waiter exactly once. He brought us waters at the beginning, I scanned the code to order, runner brings food out, I paid via the app. I still tipped 20% out of habit and knowing that he still lives on those tips (unlike counter service folks) but damn if it didn't feel like my service kind of sucked.
  12. If you see my fat ass in a parachute something has gone horribly wrong.
  13. This. I tell my 18 year old son and his friends to put some summer job money in a roth in a low cost growth index fund and check it in 41 years. A couple of them listened. Hopefully in 2064 they'll be pouring out a cold one in my honor on a yacht saying "that old bastard kind of knew what he was doing."
  14. I should visit every Springfield in the US. That will be like a noble spirit that will embiggen me
  15. This. I live in Minneapolis and give zero fucks about the Vikings and I've always thought cousins was an overpaid upper mid to upper mid tier NFL starting QB. I mean I still do think all that, but genuinely like Kirk now. Came across as a genuinely good guy. Re Mariota, I'm stunned he got another chance this year. He kind of broke the cardinal rule of professional team sports and it's not like he has skins on the wall to get a second chance.
  16. I'm all excited about my "bold" plans of getting in my gas powered air conditioned RV to see the country on paved roads, using nothing but 5g to navigate and relying only on local grocery stores and restaurants for sustenance. Meanwhile, Jedediah is looking down and saying "bless his heart". We're gonna travel by foot and horse thousands of miles over unmapped territory facing hostile wildlife and natives with no idea if or when we'll be back? Sign me up.
  17. It looked like they tried to fill it in and paint over to correct. I should just travel the country looking for misspellings of its/it's on otherwise professionally done signs. Here's one from Onalaska, Wisconsin overlooking the Mississippi.
  18. Vince and Ricky would definitely love to meet her in the tent.
  19. Laugh, easily the most Iowa excuse for missing a game I've ever heard. I'll swing by in November for our last trip to Trice, too.
  20. Yeah, I'm getting an America the Beautiful pass for parks, it's just those 2 bastards are gonna limit a lot of where I can go in there. I lived in Colorado for a decade with a dog and always found something to hike with him, so it's doable. I foresee a mixture of dog friendly hikes, historical stuff, random giant balls of twine and college football games. First game on my schedule is isu/Iowa September 9 in Ames with my son, though I'm leaving at the end of the third quarter because there's a certain game that evening I don't want to miss. I'll even buy @Al_4_ISU a beer or two while I'm there, though full disclosure my son is a matriculating Hawkeye.
  21. Hell yes. Not to lessen previous suggestions, but history and hiking? I'm in. I might just eat a shitload of spaghetti beforehand to make it authentic
