  1. I should visit every Springfield in the US. That will be like a noble spirit that will embiggen me
  2. This. I live in Minneapolis and give zero fucks about the Vikings and I've always thought cousins was an overpaid upper mid to upper mid tier NFL starting QB. I mean I still do think all that, but genuinely like Kirk now. Came across as a genuinely good guy. Re Mariota, I'm stunned he got another chance this year. He kind of broke the cardinal rule of professional team sports and it's not like he has skins on the wall to get a second chance.
  3. I'm all excited about my "bold" plans of getting in my gas powered air conditioned RV to see the country on paved roads, using nothing but 5g to navigate and relying only on local grocery stores and restaurants for sustenance. Meanwhile, Jedediah is looking down and saying "bless his heart". We're gonna travel by foot and horse thousands of miles over unmapped territory facing hostile wildlife and natives with no idea if or when we'll be back? Sign me up.
  4. It looked like they tried to fill it in and paint over to correct. I should just travel the country looking for misspellings of its/it's on otherwise professionally done signs. Here's one from Onalaska, Wisconsin overlooking the Mississippi.
  5. Vince and Ricky would definitely love to meet her in the tent.
  6. Laugh, easily the most Iowa excuse for missing a game I've ever heard. I'll swing by in November for our last trip to Trice, too.
  7. Yeah, I'm getting an America the Beautiful pass for parks, it's just those 2 bastards are gonna limit a lot of where I can go in there. I lived in Colorado for a decade with a dog and always found something to hike with him, so it's doable. I foresee a mixture of dog friendly hikes, historical stuff, random giant balls of twine and college football games. First game on my schedule is isu/Iowa September 9 in Ames with my son, though I'm leaving at the end of the third quarter because there's a certain game that evening I don't want to miss. I'll even buy @Al_4_ISU a beer or two while I'm there, though full disclosure my son is a matriculating Hawkeye.
  8. Hell yes. Not to lessen previous suggestions, but history and hiking? I'm in. I might just eat a shitload of spaghetti beforehand to make it authentic
  9. I've heard they have some incredible brisket there. It's the Lockhart of the panhandle.
  10. That's actually a pretty cool site, thanks. I'm in Minneapolis so I just took a mini test run through Iowa.
  11. House is scheduled to sell August 11, and I'm driving my youngest off to college August 19. After that, it's just me, 2 dogs and an RV cruising the country for a year or two. What are some cool, less known sights you've seen on your journeys? Hiking trails and historical stuff are mainly my thing but I'm open to all suggestions. Here's an example - on a trip last week I was driving through Clear Lake, Iowa, looked on my phone for a dog park to give the dogs a break and realized I was minutes from the Buddy Holly crash site. Nothing fancy, just a small monument in a cornfield, but still glad I took the time to go there. I certainly wouldn't drive hours to see it but if I'm nearby I'll gladly stop, and I should eventually be near most of the country at some point. And in anticipation of the first question, the RV's clearance is 9'4" @Wulaw Horn.
  12. As I'm in the upper Midwest, I rarely interact with aggy so I genuinely thought the SEC worship I had read about on this board was typical hyperbole. Then, a few years ago, my son ended up playing on a team with the son of one. Holy shit, it's exactly like this board described. It's really incredible.
  13. I must concur wholeheartedly with the Italian fellow.
  14. I think I see the disconnect here.
  15. Made it all the way to second page before the political shit flinging. Not bad, surly, not bad.
  16. You would think that a search for 10 year school girl and 10 year old blonde girl would throw up some alarm bells on the Google machine. Hell, I'm probably on a watch list now just for typing that.
  17. I did not get the exact details as it purportedly happened in a flash - one second dog is lunging at a chimp, next thing it's flying through the air to its death. Or maybe the chimp broke its neck immediately and the tree drop was just spiking the ball. It's not like guys sitting around the fire with a pet chimp are conducting an autopsy afterward. Even if that story is bullshit, I'd bet heavily on the chimp money line in any potential matchup
  18. A guy I worked with swears the following story is true- He knew a guy with a pet chimp. Another guy's German shepherd started growling at the chimp, shit talking between the respective pet owners ensues. German shepherd was let off his leash to settle the matter. Chimp proceeds to grab the dog, carry it up a nearby tree where it dropped the lifeless dog corpse from a few stories up. The whole process took about 10 seconds. Now the narrator was a typical good ole boy prone to exaggeration in pursuit of a story but he swore it was true and I could certainly see that happening. Unless it was future man's Chihuahua or something.
  19. Next surly tailgate we won't need space for the traditional 40 yard dash middle-aged man feats of strength, we'll just give wonderlic tests.
  20. Don't really care about what they do with the body but my instructions about the obituary are clear- it just has to end with "in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Auto-Erotic Asphyxiation Prevention Foundation"
  21. Was coming to say this, but then figured it's what the big 12 refs are saying about the upcoming season.
  22. It's like the scene in Meaning of Life right before every sperm is sacred -the mother is standing at the sink and a baby just falls out.
  23. That game was September in Austin and hotter than hell if I recall correctly. The stated rationale was get fresh legs in for the fourth quarter when all the buffs were worn out. It didn't work out, obviously.
  24. I learned that lesson but much later, unfortunately.
