COLLEGE STATION – The father and mother of the alleged assault victim of former Texas A&M receiver Demond Demas were arrested on Thursday afternoon by university police on a misdemeanor charge of assault, according to the Lt. Bobby Richardson of the A&M police department.
The father assaulted Demas and the mother assaulted a female relative of Demas prior to a scheduled on-campus conduct hearing for Demas, according to Richardson, and there were no serious injuries. The father and mother were taken to the Brazos County Jail.
Demas had been arrested on Wednesday on a charge of assault family violence that occurred on Saturday, according to a probable cause statement obtained from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the statement, the alleged victim who was Demas’s girlfriend, “Reported that the defendant pushed her head into the wall. Then she bit him on the shoulder. (She) reported that the defendant then grabbed her and threw her from off of the bed onto the floor, which caused her top front teeth to go through her bottom lip.
“The injury caused bleeding, loose teeth, swelling and a hole to the bottom of the lip. (She) stated that she and the defendant had been in an intimate dating relationship for a year.”
The statement added that Demas “admitted to initiating the verbal altercation” and “when it got physical he took her to the ground” causing her to bite her lip.
A&M athletics responded Wednesday that Demas has been suspended from the university and is not with the football program as of early March. Demas, who turned himself in on Wednesday, posted $5,000 bond later in the day and was released.
A university insider said Demas had been suspended from A&M last week because he was not attending class, and the suspension did not have to do with Saturday’s alleged altercation. Houston attorney Tony Buzbee confirmed on Wednesday night that he is representing Demas.
