  1. Did you think Pacman showed good judgement?
  2. I was upset with the Lidge situation because I felt the fans gave up on him too quick, and IIRC they would start booing when he entered a game. Things snowballed and he had to be traded, but to me it was because of the fans being too hard on him and all the negativity was getting to him. With Giles it seems different.
  3. That "dumb ho" was probably thinking about Pacman's future more than he was.
  4. Even so, usually guys aren't fully recovered until the second season after knee surgery.
  5. The summer stuff is just about all workout stuff, so the best athletes are going to stand out. Not much to do with Orlando vs the offensive staff.
  6. And the airport guy was even dumber. He got his ass kicked, he got arrested, and I'm sure he's going to lose his job.
  7. Not saying Pac-Man is the main one at fault, but he should have shown better judgement. He had a chance to walk away but kept talking. When the guy came after him, he could have been defensive, but went on the offensive. When the guy went down, Pac-Man hit him And we don't know what happened before the video started. I'm not saying don't defend yourself, but you have to remember the big picture. He's a 35 year old free agent looking for a job with an NFL team.
  8. Another thing about Giles: his part of the clubhouse chemistry. The Astros are known for having one of the best atmospheres in the league. Players love the chemistry. Guys coming from other teams say the Astros clubhouse is the best one they have been a part of. I get the feeling that Giles is tolerated....not loved. Losing him would not affect the clubhouse one bit.
  9. I doubt we would trade Giles to an AL contender, but I don't care if we have to face him in the postseason. He might very well hold a lead or two against us, but we all know that he would be so super-charged that he would blow as many leads as he would hold.
  10. Earlier this season I mentioned an interview Giles had last season where he said that he doesn't really listen to pitching advice because he knows himself better than anyone else, or something to that effect. I think that was very revelationary about his mindset. I was hoping that last year's melt-downs and his diminished role in the post season would open him up to constructive criticism from Strom and others. I have no idea how things are behind the scenes but it doesn't seem like he has made any changes. The Astros staff has been tremendous with so many other pitchers. Dallas Keuchel says he owes his career to Strom. Charlie Morton was re-made by this staff. Even huge talents like Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole said they have improved because of things they learned in Houston. Ken Giles has been in Houston for 2.5 years and has regressed, not progressed. It is time to cut bait with Giles. He still has two years of arbitration left after this year, so he might be attractive to a team that trades their closer to the Astros. Or they might send prospects to a team for a closer, then trade Giles to a NL contender for prospects in return.
  11. The A's fell victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia". Only slightly less known is this: "Never go against Bregman when death is on the line."
  12. Don't you use an old pair of shoes before you slaughter your enemies?
  13. NEWSFLASH - Our starting pitchers are pretty good. Here are their rankings among American League pitchers: ERA - (3) Verlander (8) Cole (9) Morton (13) McCullers (22) Keuchel Innings - (2) Verlander (9) Cole (10) Keuchel (16) McCullers (17) Morton Strikeouts - (2) Cole (4) Verlander (7) Morton (10) McCullers (27) Keuchel WHIP - (1) Verlander (6) Cole (11) McCullers (12) Morton (33) Keuchel (Verlander and Keuchel have had 19 starts while Cole, McCullers, and Morton have had 18 starts) So all five of our starting pitchers are in the top 22 in ERA, top 17 in Innings, top 27 in Strikeouts, and top 33 in WHIP. How do other AL teams compare? Top 22 in ERA - 5 Pitchers (Houston) 3 Pitchers (Boston, Cleveland) 2 Pitchers (New York, Seattle, Minnesota) 1 Pitcher (Tampa Bay, LA, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago) 0 Pitchers (Texas, Baltimore, Kansas City, Toronto) Top 17 in Innings - 5 Pitchers (Houston) 3 Pitchers (Cleveland) 2 Pitchers (Boston, Seattle) 1 Pitcher (New York, Oakland, Minnesota, Chicago, Tampa Bay) 0 Pitchers (Texas, LA, Baltimore, Detroit, Kansas City, Toronto) Top 27 in Strikeouts - 5 Pitchers (Houston) 4 Pitchers (Boston, Cleveland) 3 Pitchers (Minnesota) 2 Pitchers (Seattle, Baltimore) 1 Pitcher (New York, LA, Detroit, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Texas, Toronto) 0 Pitchers (Oakland, Chicago) Top 33 in WHIP - 5 Pitchers (Houston) 4 Pitchers (Boston, Cleveland) 3 Pitchers (Seattle, Detroit) 2 Pitchers (New York, Oakland, Minnesota, Texas) 1 Pitcher (Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas City, LA, Tampa Bay, Toronto)
  14. The player voting took place a week or two ago.
  15. Even including that game against Toronto, where he gave up 6 ER's in 5 1/3 innings, he has an ERA of 2.59 and a record of 3-0 in his last 5 starts.
  16. Your reading comprehension sucks.
  17. Late head's up. The Sting started at 8:00. They are starting to round up the crew.
  18. Kemp would have caught that. Tucker is a failed experiment.
  19. I want to see how he does over the remainder of the season and how much he wants to be paid before I will make a judgement on re-signing him.
  20. Marwin is going to be a free agent after this season.
  21. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/minor-league-options According to this players don't have a specific number of options, they have option YEARS in which they can be sent down multiple times.
  22. Where can we find out how many options players have left?
  23. A couple of thoughts: 1) They want to give Tucker a trial right now to see whether they need to trade for a LF with a little more pop than Kemp. 2) They moved Jake down instead of Kemp because they are showcasing Kemp for a possible trade.
  24. I agree with all of these 100%. Excited to see Tucker with the Astros and hope he makes any concerns irrelevant.
  25. So you're trying to tell me the Astros are pretty good?
