  1. I would add the demise of the myth of American exceptionalism. There are at least 20 other countries I would prefer to live in.
  2. Can't someone want Texas to vote Democratic for the good of Texas?
  3. For Democrats to win Texas they need the progressive younger voters to turn out and they will turn out in bigger numbers for a progressive candidate. Catering to the middle is a losing strategy.
  4. Assuming Joe at 30% and Warren and Sanders combining for 45% and no others being awarded delegates, Warren and Sanders would have 60% of the elected delegates and over 48% of the total delegates before considering how the super delegates will vote. Warren or Sanders could win if their combined delegates supported one of them.
  5. In 2016 over 3 percent voted Libertarian and Half a percent voted for McMullin, so Trump's ceiling is at most 46 percent.
  6. Moscow Mitch to start. There is no conviction unless he decides there is. Then we have the 10 who opposed Trump during the election and the 9 who are retiring at the end if their term.
  7. The morning consult poll has him -5 in Ohio, -3 in Montana, and -2 in Nebraska. But it also has him +1 in Georgia. And +2 in Texas.
  8. It will be interesting to see how many Republicans vote in Democratic primaries in open primary states so they can vote for Tulsi.
  9. Most people rely entirely on information from other sources rather than performing their own original research. Even filtering through multiple sources and deciding which is best is not truly developing ones own views through original research. So, very few people develop their own views on any one subject. If someone is spending most of your spare time posting on the Web, they are are likely doing very little original research to formulate their own views.
  10. The NC GOP is too stupid to realize that with congressional generic polling running D+9 going into 2020, now is the perfect time to make a few R+8 and R+9 districts into R+11 or R+12 districts to make the map a safe 8 seat Republican map with a couple swing seats. Now they might end up with a 7-6 map with 3 or 4 swing seats. It is sort of like the Texas GOP wanting all 7 Travis county gerrymandered seats including Doggett's. They never took Doggett's seat and now they could potentially lose 3 other seats around Austin because of their gerrymander. It would have been better for them in 2011 to carve most of Austin into a safe seat for Doggett, and gerrymander the rest. In 2021 they may need to make two safe democratic seats out of Travis and surrounding areas, but will probably stupidly try to make only one.
  11. Republicans sent a nude picture of her with a bong that was taken with her lesbian lover and boyfriend and I am still wondering why they are trying to help get her reelected.
  12. Pubic perception and Trump's approval rating guide what the senate does. If the House does not make a case with the public the Senate won't either.
  13. I would still think the House Democrats would want to call a few witnesses back to testify in open session to lay out the grounds for the impeachment charges with the public.
  14. I will say it again. If Joe wins the nomination that will tell me there is no point to my ever returning to the US except for short vacations.
  15. Actually scientists have determined that 25% to 50% of glacial melting is due to soot. China, India, Brazil and even the EU are worse soot producers, so there is that. To help that we (globally) need to stop burning fields, forests and trash, eliminate dirtier forms of fuel oil an diesel burning, and adopt cleaner cooking methods. That said, if someone wants to take my smoker, we have a problem.
  16. That study does not take into account other studies that show that as water has been added to the oceans and the water expands due to temperature increases the sea floor has been lowering and the continents rising. The rising effect is even more significant since Antarctica is surrounded by a ring of mid-ocean rifts while Antarctica does not have any major subduction zones. It only has one major row of volcanos and certainly not anywhere near the length of subduction zones to equal the expansion rift zones. So we must expect the entire Antartic continent to rise over time. That makes their analysis meaningless.
  17. A friend is a fox news addict and Tulsi is his favorite Democratic candidate. He keeps telling me I should vote for her. I suspect that a lot of her support comes from Republican trolls.
  18. Wait until he keeps having rallies after he leaves office.
  19. Why not both? Serious question. I will clarify that I expect Rudy and Trump to assert both at one time or another to confuse the issue. So what happens then.
  20. Good point. If she wants to slow corruption in the military industrial complex she needs to stop the officer to lobbyist revolving door.
  21. Someone on dailykos mentioned that the Constitution requires that lawsuits brought against an ambassador originate in the Supreme Court. So if the House sues Sondland to compel him to testify it lands directly in Roberts' lap.
  22. There is speculation about Chelsea Clinton running for this seat and getting her start in politics. That would be interesting. In any case I hope someone younger wins as the boomers and older are seriously over-represented in the Democratic House.
  23. I am saying he should be disqualified by any rational person. We should not vote for someone who only has a 50/50 or even a 70/30 chance of functionally completing their term. Note that this applies to Biden too, particularly since he is already showing what may be advanced signs of senility. We should only be considering candidates who we can confidently expect with be healthy at the end of their term. It should not be 50/50 odds, but 90/10 or better.
  24. A candidate for president should be reasonably expected to remain healthy and functioning for their entire term. In a quick Google search the average life expectancy for an 80 year old white male in the US is 7 years. Life expectency for an 80 year old who has had a heart attack and a stent is shorter, but I did not find precise statistics on how much shorter. So what if his life expectency at 80 is 4 years as an example? And we must keep in mind that many people are functionally impaired months or even years before death. I do not think there is a high enough probability of Bernie remaining healthy for a full 4 year term to take the chance. He is therefore disqualified.
