  1. I have a friend who once ran for DC shadow senator who is still connected into DC politics and he told me that DC is definitely planning to reapply for statehood in 2021. He doesn't think they will get approval from both houses even if the Democrats hold the majority.
  2. Congress should ask Cohen about Hannity under oath.
  3. Someone should do a meme and out it out on social media.
  4. And then there is Vulvarine.
  5. The rural 25% vote R plus a million votes or so. In 2012 the other 26 counties with 75% of the vote went Republican by over 200,000 votes. In 2016 the large counties went Democratic by over 200,000 votes. Off the top of my head i recall the net swing being 560,000. In 2018 the gap closed to 220,000. There will be around 2 million voters in 2020 who did not vote in 2018 and the vast majority of those will be in the large counties. The Rs 220,000 vote advantage from 2018 will vaporize.
  6. I disagree. Whomever is elected in 2020 could preside over some of the most important legislative achievements in recent history if Bernie's and Warren's best legislative proposals are passed along with a new voting rights act. While it will take a combined effort, that president will get lots of credit and could conceivably become the greatest in recent history in some respects. The tough part is overcoming the corporate interests who are opposed to healthcare, anti-corruption, the green new deal, and other reforms. The right person who can provide the leadership necessary to do that would be great. I think Beto could do that.
  7. After demographic changes expected over the next 5 years the Republican senatorial base drops from 50 to closer to 40, so no, this situation is not permanent. 40 out of 104, assuming 2 new states, will mean that in many congresses Republicans will not be able to block legislation from reaching the floor.
  8. Don't forget DC and PR statehood in 2021.
  9. Agreed about the Castro brothers. Joaquin was completely overshadowed by Beto when they shared a mic. Julian is not much better. At this point either of them could lose the primary if they run for Senate against someone like Colin Allred.
  10. So is her voting record. She has voted with Trump 24.0% of the time so she is not among the 100 most progressive congressmen. It puts her between Pelosi and Schumer.
  11. Castro wants an upgraded cabinet post. Or at least that is the best he can expect out of this.
  12. Climate change and the green new deal
  13. The feds owe DC 5 million on their water bill so DC is contemplating shutting off the water to the White House when they Are 30 days past due. I can't wait for that morning crapper tweet.
  14. You apparently fail to realize that she falls back on Bernie's proposed legislation for details on most of her proposals.
  15. Our mainstream media hates socialist thinking. Look at the Anderson Cooper interview with AOC as evidence. Given that social programs have majority support among the public, all of CNNs program hosts are far right wing as are the vast majority of their guests.
  16. The biweekly daikykos poll which gauges insiders is Warren 22%, Beto 15%, Harris 13%, Biden 13%, and Bernie 10%. Nobody else above 2%. Warren got a nice bump from the last poll after her announcement.
  17. Bernie is a victim of his own success. His policies are now mainstream and people who are more charismatic are carrying his message forward. He should stay in the Senate.
  18. There are lots of guys with a 20 year military retirement on disability retired in the Philippines.
  19. I fly out of JFK tomorrow and I am a little worried. They have 170 people a day not showing up and it is bound to get worse. I plan to show up real early for my flight to Doha. The airports will stop functioning if those folks don't get their deposits at the end of the month.
  20. The green new deal recently polled above 80% and above 50% among Republicans. That does include the 12 year target to eliminate fossil fuels, even if it is an impossibility. If you are anti green new deal you are definitely far right wing based on public polling. Climate change aside, I would really like to see Russia, KSA, UAE, and Qatar have their economies destroyed for giving us Trump. And, Iran too for their destabilization of the ME.
  21. I hope it is Kobach and Marshall in the Republican primary.
  22. In the top brackets the first step needs to be closing tax loopholes and tax cheating. Then we can assess what percentages make sense. As an expat most of the guys I know making a half million or more a year are hiding income offshore.
  23. Other than universal basic income, which I will give you, which of her main proposals are out of the mainstream? When I look at public polling most of what she proposes has 60 to 90% public support. What seems more likely is that you are so far right that you have no clue what positions are popular with the general public.
