  1. I'm not going to neg someone for having an opinion. Even if I disagree with it. I may be a surly asshole, but I'm not that surly asshole.

We did volunteer. We volunteered to step up to the plate so one one else had to. So if any other people who decided to raise their goddamn hand and face shit disagrees, then a conversation we can have. Never the less, everyone who did raise their hand, did so to ensure that any surly asshole in this country can disagree with any other surly asshole.

I still dont agree that anyone should have to pay a toll to drive on a goddamn road in Texas. I will never agree with that position if tax payer money went to build it.

So, none of us should pay tolls, but especially vets, and disabled vets even more so?  Sounds like that is your point here.

I’m failing to make the connection. And I haven’t yet, but I’ll tell you now that guys like you should be honored at every opportunity. But, I can’t see the connection between the injustice of a perhaps-bullshit toll authority experience (I have been there too) - to the tune of $93 - and your disabled vet status.

The connection is that payment has already been made. Whether that was in blood or taxes, it's been paid. So forcing additional payment is abhorrent.

(knowing full well this won't get answered)

But what makes toll roads different?
    Should you pay sales tax?
    Property tax?
    Income tax?
    Water bill?
    Electricity?

What makes tolls so different than the others (property tax being the one that is most similar, as DV get property tax reduction)?

Toll roads are an ad hoc expense. They aren't necessary for sustained living. I refuse to use the goddamn things regardless of traffic and my ex-wife who drives the other vehicle with my DV plate knows I don't want her driving on them because I will have to pay for them.

She's from the northeast where tolls are everywhere. Largely, she doesn't. There are times though, where she just doesn't want to wait in traffic and does so against whatever I want. This was the case with my current issue.

A central part of your point was inexplicably bringing up your veteran status. And I doubt in most cases of tollways, we already paid for the road.

Those who've served and become disabled because of their service have paid many times over for the cost of roads. So yeah, I do think tolls shouldn't be taken from us. We pay our taxes just like everyone else. The difference is that many of us paid a whole lot more than taxes.

Look, thank you for your service, seriously, but where does the entitlement mentality end?

There's nothing about being a disabled vet that should exempt them from paying tolls like the rest of us: those who served but aren't disabled, those who teach, those who teach in underserved areas, those who go into the ministry, etc.

Pay your tolls and you won't get hit with a big bill (assuming the toll authority doesn't fuck up).

It's like (Hazelton act, iirc) where not only service members but the dependents of service members (or something like that) get free tuition. Why the dependents?

I'll probably get negged, but the entitlement mentality (as it applies to this aspect) is bogus.

My point is that no one should have to pay tolls. Period. If a road is built by a company without any tax-payer money to fund the project, then fine. But we all paid for the road already, so its essentially double taxation.

Found this that applies to the Austin area - https://www.texvet.org/resources/some-toll-roads-texas-free-some-veterans-use

There was also some legislative action recently: https://connectingvets.radio.com/articles/bill-aims-limit-number-vehicles-veterans-can-drive-toll-free-texas

As of now, any vehicle with a disabled veteran, Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, or Legion of Honor license plate doesn't pay tolls on Texas Department of Transportation Roads. But it seems that veterans may be taking a little extra advantage of this benefit.

There are 719 veterans with five or more of these license plates. Two veterans have registered for 11, according to testimony during a Texas House Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee hearing.

Overall, the cost of the program has increased from roughly $1 million when it was first established to $7.9 million in 2017. At its current rate, the cost of the program will be $11 million by 2011.

If I lived around the Austin area, I wouldn't have made this thread as I would've never known. Alas, that doesn't apply to me or my family

Nonetheless, I thank you for participating in this thread.

We are all worse off having had these goddamn tollway in Texas.

Qualifying Veterans.....recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Air Force Cross (Legion of Valor), Distinguished Service Cross (Legion of Valor), Army Distinguished Service Cross (Legion of Valor), Navy Cross (Legion of Valor), Purple Heart and disabled veterans who qualify and meet the requirements for a disabled veteran license plate.

The rest of us still have to pay.

Not a fan of toll roads either, but since they are here and the state is making money off of them, they aren't going away.

I qualify for that.  These bastards dont know what $93 dollars fucking dollars means for me and my family only that, they don't care. So I guess fuck us.

  8. Proposition 1 ; hat we all, or most of us voted in favor of by about 79% to 21% In 2014. Not judging anyone who voted against, but fuck you anyway.

No one should pay any toll to drive on any road. Rant or no, we all pay taxes that fund the fucking roads. We pay those taxes so we dont have to. So I say again: FUCK THE GODDAMN TOLL ROADS.

Is that grudge match pool still going on on the recruiting board? I'm taking HOOK'EMHOOAH over CTJ and then to go on to win it all.

I post on the recruiting board, but I don't have the slightest idea where it's going. As an INTP, I need more information.

I’m confused about several things here and am trying to weigh whether or not to question OP now, or let him cool off. I’ve never had such restraint.

Just voice your opinion. You, nor anyone else, should never have pay to travel. We paid with our blood to make that so. There is no currency worth any human's blood. Freedom to go where you wish is as fundamental to humanity is is the freedom of speech or freedom or anything else.

  11. No one needs to thank me for my service. I'm a surly asshole like everyone else here. We raise our hand because we do it voluntarily. My service isn't the issue. We All decided that toll road should go away. So why in the fuck haven't they? We elected to use the "rainyday fund" as a means to build roads. Yet here we goddamn are.

Thank you for your service.  Maybe check to see if the VA has Zoloft or weed or something.

First off, I don't need your placation. The VA has prescribed bullshit already. Many kinds of bullshit. Unfortunately weed is not able to be prescribed in Texas. Another in a long line of bullshit about the assholes elected because people can't pull their heads out of their asses. But that still does t solve the root issue.we all chose to have the goddamn toll roads closed.

  13. I don't give a good goddamn what riley has in his office. That sooner trash is NOTHING compared to what the office of the Texas Head Coach will have. Fuck riley and fuck ou. His shit looks like he's looking at the practice field from a goddamn trailer park.

  14. I paid this fucking fine and when I prove it, I will make these dicks eat shit on two levels. First, that they fucked up. Second that they are fucking over thousands or millions of Texans in the process. Anyone that supports them doesn't support what Texas is about. So fuck them too.

Tolls are such BS.  Let me guess - you never got a toll tag out of principle and avoid tolls at all costs.  But you got hit with pay by mail, including fees, collections etc. and now you're $1.85 toll is exponentially more?

$93 goddamn dollars when I paid their stupid fucking toll in goddam April.

  16. Fucking assholes claiming their bullshit about "losing profits if disabled veterans dont get tolled" words can't express how much I want the bastards in charge dead. They do not deserve to breathe the same air as anyone else. They can breathe their fucking money for all I give a shit.

  17. Every tollway can eat a goddamn dick. Any road taxes pay for should never EVER have a toll on it.

Fuck these bastards for charging tolls to disabled veterans. We paid with our goddamn lives and limbs to be able to drive wherever we goddamn well please/need to. There is literally not a single road in this fucking country any disabled veteran should be charged to drive on.

Dont forget the photographers that get in BEVO's way as he gores the opposing mascots. It's probably actually a good thing there is a trench for him to drop them in. It also doubles as a moat to keep him from rushing the field during games. He is a lively guy.
