So we should go out and occupy, Africa, the sub continent, the ME, and the Caribbean ? Their success was based on military conquest, and control of the high seas trade.
we should definitely occupy the cayman islands.

A lot of people also miss that they have a monopoly on mailing letters.....maybe if other competitors were allowed to deliver letters it would be different?

what a load of shit.
the USPS is "struggling" because unlike its competitors it has been forced to fully fund its pensions and cannot raise rates or innovate into other/additional markets without an act of congress. the only thing it can do that its competitors can't is put mail in the box, but how much is that actually worth? in exchange it has to visit every box, damn near every day. how much does that cost? its only real subsidy is that it doesn't pay state property taxes. it hasn't been taxpayer funded in a generation.

How deep are you willing to ride that roller coaster? The thought process in this thread has gone nuts and will do nothing but empower the fake Republican conservatives to rail on Democrat spending. Now the argument is “we don’t mind deficit spending and new programs if it’s for what we agree with and the rich have to pay more.” How about we get our house back in order and not pay for things the way we always have and be realistic about tax collection projections and tax law and take on new spending and new measures as part of an overall plan?
that's hume's argument, at least. writing in 1752: ‘either the nation must destroy public credit, or public credit will destroy the nation.’ britain's debt to GDP ratio continued to rise over the next 65 years to the highest ever seen (over 200%), and for the next century after that it ran the whole damn world.
so, yeah, sign me up for that roller coaster. so long as we can figure out how to keep the entirety of national income increases from accruing to 10,000 individuals, at least.

So the answer is we can be stupid with the money because they are/were stupid with the money? I hope you guys ask more of your reps at some point and don’t just chase the message. The hole is so deep at this point that we need to stop digging quickly before we make everyone’s life better. That’s not a D or R problem, that’s an overall problem that will drag us all down if someone doesn’t start addressing it.
every prediction that the debt was going to force the nation into insolvency and we'd all be hocked to foreign creditors has been wrong for 300+ years, but i'm sure it's right this time.

Can't believe how many can't figure out how to do this themselves. Sure it's free, but I can do it in like 5 minutes with a cheap inflator at home.
I had no idea this was a thing. A small, basic air compressor is like $100 and will last for years.
you buying bicycle pumps from bosch?

Not to derail but I don’t understand this. Your friend is currently an AF mechanic but is basically unable to work, or is somehow planning to become 100% disabled between now and when he retires next year?
Wtf is the AF doing to their mechanics that allows their jobs to disable their mechanics? Or your friend allowing himself to get hurt to game the system to get retirement and disability checks in the future?
not sure exactly what the job entails; i know he's had several back surgeries and he complains that the hydraulic fluid in the KC-10 is acidic and there's no way to prevent it from getting on you when you're wrenching on the No. 3 engine. apparently there's a rating of 100% disabled but still able to work. i don't know what his basis is for expecting (maybe hoping is more the right word) that he gets that. i would think the AF would do more than look once (right at retirement) and give a rating, but i don't know how that process works, either.

"your feeling on the field is that it's not a touchdown"
i'm 1500 miles away sitting 20 feet from my TV and i could see from a bad angle that that was probably a touchdown. someone standing 20 feet away from it with a perfect angle down the line should have gotten that right from the get go.
