  1. i don't know if there is a good test, aside from running it in a hot box with a load tester ($$$).  there's little things you can buy that clip onto the ATX connector, but all those really do is say "yes, power is on."  easier and cheaper just to get a new one, usually.  problem with dell is that sometimes they use power supplies that meet ATX spec, and some other times they use power supplies that don't, but still use the same connectors so you could destroy your computer if you plug in an ATX supply and feed 12V into a ground.

  2. FCC wants to reclassify text messages from a Telecom service to an information session

The real issue is that the definition of information service is so broad that you could make anything be an information service.

However, if you think back to the mid 90s when the telecom dereg act was passed, it really isn't that hard to figure out. Back then you had a bunch of walled garden networks that were independent of the internet, such as AOL or CompuServe (along with lots of BBSes). Sure, some of them offered internet access as well, but on something like AOL you never had to leave AOL's network if you didn't want to. The other thing you had back then were dial in ISPs. You dialed in, got an IP address, and were fully part of the internet.

If you remember how things were, it's pretty clear which of these is an information service and which is a telecom service.

This may just affect Houston residents, but is there anything AND I MEAN ANYTHING about the late President Bush that we haven’t heard at least 20 times over by now? I guess the local networks are trying to outdo each other with their insane wall to wall coverage. The train, interviewing aggy that can’t say anything about President Bush without tying him into aggy, yada yada yada.....

you're born to an elite family in new england.  you go to the best schools, serve in the military, and then continue your service throughout your life, eventually reaching the highest office in the land.  throughout, you serve with honor, integrity, and dignity.  and, when you die, you get carted off and buried in college station.

  5. 1) "drivers" who don't turn on their lights when its raining
1a) vehicles with tiny and dim tail lights that can barely be seen through the rain and spray (pickups are terrible about this - tail lights never extend onto the tailgate like many hatchbacks SUVs so just exist in a tiny little area.  but of course these same vehicles that can barely be seen from behind have 6 fucking headlights because they've all turned into brodozers from the factory)

  7. well, yeah, it is generic for solid state hard drive.  but that's a different thing from either a solid state drive or a hard drive.

as for the build itself - the ones in the reddit wiki aren't bad, and i'd probably lean toward the 144hz build.  my only potential change would be to an amd 2700.  the 8600k will be faster in raw framerate than the 2700, but the 2700 may be smoother in certain high thread count games (far cry 5 comes to mind).  keep in mind the biggest performance difference between the reddit $800 and $1200 builds is from the graphics card.  the 2700 also comes with a usable CPU cooler so you can avoid that expense.

if you need wifi it can be more convenient to get it built into the board.  and it'll have antennas which pick up signal way better than the little usb sticks do.

they're ~$1000 but still need a case.  cases are almost completely an aesthetic decision at this point - some are understated, a lot are gaudy.  pretty much anything is pretty quiet these days due to the 120 mm fans on everything.

power supply prices change all the time - newegg runs 2 day sales involving rebates and whatnot pretty much constantly.  you may need to sign up for their email spam to get the coupon code.  my advice is get whatever gold rated unit from seasonic, corsair or evga is on sale that day.

  8. ok, but you're mixing your terms.  "SSHD" is a hard drive with a big (~32GB) flash ram cache built in.  at a big price premium.  they're useful for notebook computers where there aren't enough bays or slots for separate SSDs and HDDs.

another question: are you in either houston or dallas?  if so, microcenter may be your best option for getting some of your components.

Okay I want to build this computer with my kiddo, but I want the build to be around 1k with a SSHD and windows 10.

    Little help with the components?

you don't want an SSHD.  you want a separate SSD and a regular hard drive for general storage.

do you need a monitor with that $1k?
