okay, that makes more sense as a line of inquiry.

yes, the bill of rights is specifically separated from the rest of the document as a set of amendments so that those things may be changed as time goes on.

somebody correct me if i got that wrong.

madison thought bills of rights were illusory, and argued against them in federalist no 84 (in that the inclusion of some rights in a bill of rights would make people think that it's an exclusive list), and a measure to include a bill of rights was explicitly rejected during the convention.  it wasn't until the ratification process that a bill of rights became necessary following the massachusetts compromise, in which ratification was contingent upon the proposal of amendments by anti-federalists with the support of those amendments by the federalists.

    So full of shit

2.8 million more votes total for Clinton

Or 2,626 voting counties for Trump vs 487 counties for Hillary.

It worked exactly as it was intended. The majority of he country chose the government. Not NY and LA

LA and NY don't have votes.  people do.  counties don't have votes.  people do.

arbitrary bits of land getting representation may have been a necessary compromise 230 years ago, but it's outlived its usefulness.  we're not an agrarian society whose economic output is limited mostly by how much land is around.  we're a post industrial society whose economic output is limited by the number of people wielding technological levers.

OK, Mr. destroy the constitution because it sucks and we can do it better now.  I actually doubt what we would put together would be better but worse.  You see what we did with Obamacare?  The new constitution would be like 10K pages.

My 2008 mac pro has been on its last legs for a few years now. After a couple rounds of upgrades over the years it’s well past time to replace it.

I’m currently waiting for the shipments of these parts to come in over the next few days. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tFgFyX

Going to be dual booting macOS and windows from two separate SSDs.

    why no m2?

There was a thread on the old site, but haven't seen one here. My current build is getting onto about 6 years old, and it's loud and big and frankly, ugly :). Plus, I don't need things like spinning hard drives, and 5 PCIe slots anymore. So I'm putting together a miniITX build and shooting for silent operation under normal workloads. Just pulled the trigger on the following:

    • AMD Ryzen 5 2600
    • ASrock Fata1ity B450 AM4 Mobo (4x SATA3, USBa+c, 802.11ac, BT4+)
    • G.Skill Ripjaws PC4 24000 (3000mhz) DDR4 RAM - 16GB
    • Noctua L9x65 CPU cooler (known to be basically silent)
    • Corsair RM750x PSU (fan doesn't run <40% load)
    • Powercolor RX570 4GB GPU
    • Cooler Master Elite 130 case

Should be smaller, quieter, and cleaner vs. my current build (i5 + R7300 + ATX form factor).

What about you? Any other nerds out there?

only concern is whether the ram will work at 2933/3066 (AMD doesn't have dividers for 3000) on that board.  ryzen processors can be picky about ram. if someone has reviewed that particular ram on newegg and said it worked with that particular board, then that's ok.  otherwise i'd find something on the QVL for either the board or the ram.

Somebody may have already said this in the prior 77 pages and if so my apologies.

"Toasting" with food. Cut it out, that shit is beyond stupid. I have no idea when this even became a thing, but I'm sure Food Network and Rachel Ray are responsible somehow. Toasting is for booze, fuck off with your food toast. Stop trying to make it a thing.

these fuckers showed up in my youtube feed one day:

bugs this shit out of me they toast with their food.  also, that they're reviewing food and it looks like neither has eaten more than 1200 calories in a day for the last 10 years.

  7. I'm the 10th person on this flight and there's already 6 coats in the overhead bins.

Also, people who haven't figured out that seat A is on the port side of the aircraft.

Edit: people's inability to efficiently use overhead bin space drives me nuts

I am talking about cost in the specific sense.  Is the "damage" done by 1 ton of carbon equal to $50, $500, $500,000......

Then you also get into the whole issue of a secondary market for carbon( carbon credits, offsets.....),which is just a whole realm rife with opportunity for graft, corruption, crony capitalism.

Not the overall question of if carbon is an issue.

carbon fee != credits.  credits are part of a quota system, which would be a different regime entirely.  using a fee based system where producers of carbon and equivalents pay a fee equal to the cost that all the rest of us bear for that production reduces most of the crony capitalism concerns,* whereas setting industry quotas and using credits and offsets and all that doesn't.

there's a massive study being undertaken by university of chicago to estimate in all the different areas of the world the economic cost of carbon emissions.  and since it's just economic concerns it'll undershoot by not taking into account non-economic environmental concerns.  so that'll be a good lower bound for the amount.

don't let perfect be the enemy of good, especially for existential questions.  carbon has the ability to be an existential threat.

*i guess there's always the concerns inspectors that make sure the meters are working properly can be bought off.
