  1. All of the committee members the House GOP proposed be on this committee were just named as begging for pardons.
  2. That's why all of us on the left flank were so pissed when Cal Cunningham couldn't keep his pants zipped up in North Carolina. Schumer could turn the screws on one of Manchin and Sinema, but as we've seen, it's impossible to pressure both.
  3. Can those in Texas verify that Bob Wills is indeed still the king?
  4. Or a snap election. This is how Maggie Thatcher came to power.
  5. Show me a poll like this in October and I'll believe it. Florida, Iowa, and Ohio have turned into red states and will remain that way unless and until proven otherwise. As for the cheeseheads, I don't trust them either, but the GOP is now on a statewide losing streak over there. TFG and Ron Johnson in 2016 are the last red wins.
  6. After two years of COVID, the bulls return to the streets of Pamplona.
  7. Actually, if you want to see the endgame, see Iran: A largely secular populace ruled by a small cabal of religious fundamentalists.
  8. A Judiciary Act that substantially expands the Supreme Court, as well as the rest of the federal bench.
  9. This batch of Senate elections is all about Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Get those flipped and Manchin and Sinema don't matter. Other than Mark Kelly, Big John is the best candidate of any Democrat anywhere on the board. I would say that the cheeseheads next door are dumb enough to send Ron Johnson back. However, the GOP has gone on something of a losing streak over there. Ron and TFG represent the last Republican statewide wins there. Then the pickings get slim. North Carolina? Maybe. Cal Cunningham shanked this one away when he couldn't keep his pants zipped up. Val Demings in Florida and Mike Franken in Iowa are great candidates, but those states have gone red unless and until proven otherwise. Ditto for Ohio. That said, I would LOVE to be wrong here. The Missouri GOP is going to send out Eric Greitens. In any other state, that would be prime flip territory.
  10. The President of the United States throwing a fucking tantrum. JFC.
  11. If you're looking for a good brunch place and don't mind taking the subway to the Upper West Side, go to Maison Pickle (84th and Broadway). Tasty food and gigantic portions. Saw 3 shows there last weekend, and all three were aggressively enforcing masking. Looking at the lines to get into the Holland and Lincoln Tunnel from the Jersey side confirms my position to never fly into Newark for a NYC visit if at all possible.
  12. Even Nixon's biggest defenders in the House Judiciary Committee gave up once the smoking gun tape was forced into the open.
  13. Revival is great, but they aren't open for lunch. Just had dinner at the Butcher's Tale last week, and it was fantastic.
  14. The entire right wing smear-o-sphere exists solely to feed an alternative reality to those hooked on it. Recall the Watergate hearings were in the 3-channel era in which all three channels showed nothing but hearings live all day, and then an unedited replay in prime time. No ducking it then.
  15. There was an unrepentant Trumper on Paul Manafort's jury, but that didn't prevent the jury from convicting him. Said Trumper was interviewed afterwards, and she said something to the effect of "There was so much evidence of his guilt I had to find him guilty."
  16. The harder you make the target, the weaker you make the weakness.
  17. All of this being revealed on the second anniversary of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin killing George Floyd in cold blood.
  18. They didn't just draw a nap to overturn those three. They drew a map to overturn every right that relies on a 14th Amendment Supreme Court case. These include, but are not limited to, privacy, interstate travel, interracial marriage, birthright citizenship, legal counsel even if one can't afford it, and the right to not have illegally seized evidence used against you. With this Court, always assume the worst case scenario.
  19. Aeroporti di Roma staff was checking at the terminal doors and skyway entrance for proof of vaccination and negative COVID test within 2 calendar days. They were doing this before allowing anyone to even get near check in, bag drop, or security. That said, they were the only ones checking. Airline staff, security checkpoint, and neither Italian or US customs asked. This was in January, so YMMV.
  20. When we went in December, no one checked out vaccination cards at any of the airports we went through. Granted, that was only Amsterdam and Rome, but I was expecting a full check prior to leaving the airport. Getting back into Rome airport to leave was a different story.
  21. Obligatory
