  1. Charge conference going on right now on the streams. IIRC this is the part where the attorneys hash out the jury instructions. I think the judge may have been expecting a lot of detail work on this, hence why he sent the jury home when defense was done.
  2. Evidence is finished. Jury has been sent off. Lawyers still have to do the instructions conference, but I think this is the end of public discussion. Closing arguments at 9 AM Monday.
  3. Defense rests. Dr Tobin back on the stand, and the State did some serious tap-dancing to not end in an immediate mistrial.
  4. He's not testifying. Sounds like defense is resting once the jury is brought back in. State wants to call a rebuttal witness to newly discovered evidence.
  5. Moderna Round 2 this morning. So far, just a sore arm. Very pleased to get the second shot.
  6. That makes Rosie look skinny. 25 stone and change...
  7. The God I believe in isn't short of cash, mister.
  8. 2nd degree manslaughter. I think this is the right charge. Negligent discharge of a firearm that kills someone, no intention to kill, and no premeditation.
  9. If Ellison and co. aren't preparing to cross-examine Chauvin, they should be. Yesterday's testimony was bad, bad, bad for the defense.
  10. Chief of police resigned shortly after that.
  11. State of Minnesota rests. Defense's first witness is a MPD retiree that is supposed to only explain how Mr. Floyd reacted to opioids.
  12. Getting back to the trial: It sounds like this is the only place where defense counsel has been on the offensive. Judge told the jury to have a bag packed when they come to court Monday, sounds like they'll be getting the case then and will be sequestered until they reach a verdict.
  13. Yup. Negligent discharge. Tried to draw her taser and got her pistol instead.
  14. Another question: what is defense counsel waiting for? I understand not cross-examining the 9-year-old kid, but IMHO he needed to really be on the offensive yesterday. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will be up later today, and if he's saving all his attacks for him, it's too little too late. The reason all of us are talking about this is that we're all tired of lawmen deciding that misdemeanors are punishable by summary execution.
  15. Defense now crossing the pulmonologist.
  16. According to the pool reporter, many jurors were rubbing and examining their own necks during his testimony prior to the morning break. Very effective for the state.
  17. Apparently in the week immediately after the killing, there was a deal in place for Chauvin to plead guilty to murder 3 and do 10+ years in federal prison instead of state. It supposedly fell apart when his counsel wanted a guarantee for no federal civil rights charges. The timeline would also line up with when the AG office took over prosecution from the Hennepin County Attorney, it was right after this would have happened. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ag-barr-quashed-plea-deal-fired-officer-derek-chauvin-george-n1257457
  18. Former MPD Lieutenant Richard Zimmerman was on the stand this morning, and was a very effective witness for the State.
  19. Even the regional aren't bad in the NE. It would be nice to have real high speed rail. Like France. Paris to Marseille in less than 3 hours and 20 minutes. That is a trip of about 480 miles, or roughly Austin to Amarillo (which driving takes about 8 hours). Also, the Italian Frecciarossa kicks all kinds of ass. Rome to Naples in an hour, Florence in an hour and a half, Venice and Milan in 3.5 hours.
  20. And here comes the badge cams. First one is Officer Lane...
  21. KARE-11 has a criminal defense attorney on as an analyst. As I was reading your post, he was reading off all the stuff that the State has yet to get to (medical, cause of death, and use of force), and there's 7 to 8 days worth of testimony. Defense is picking their spots and saving their credibility for those issues. Another point the attorney made: The other three officers charged as accessories will NOT testify, but we'll see their badge cams.
  22. Defense didn't cross the last witness. I get not crossing the 9-year-old kid from yesterday, but at some point don't you have to try and discredit some of them? On an aside, the last witness featured the first footage released from any of the officer's badge cams. No one seems to know if the entirety of the footage will be shown, and no one knows whether Chauvin will take the stand in his own defense.
