  1. One of the potential jurors interviewed on Tuesday was a 19-year-old who was clearly scared out of his mind. The judge wisely dismissed him.
  2. Two more jurors were seated today. The last potential juror questioned today was dismissed, but this came up during said questioning: Sounds like that's what the defense's play is going to be: the choke out wasn't the cause of death.
  3. This point came up in questioning of the current juror. Juror #29 is a civil litigator with a small child. The judge is expecting ~4 weeks of testimony plus deliberations, with the possibility of a complete sequestration for the whole time. Juror was asked if finding child care would be a problem, she said no. 3:15 PM restart.
  4. They seated 3 today, and will be adjourning for the day shortly. A chemist, an auditor, and a woman who seemed way too excited to be on a jury. As someone who has never been part of voir dire on either side, this is both fascinating and boring.
  5. Here's an account of how the jury deliberation went during the trial of Philando Castile https://www.mprnews.org/story/2017/06/23/74-seconds-yanez-juror
  6. The GOP also wrote the law in Georgia stating that the winner has to have at least 50% +1 to win, otherwise there's a runoff. If this wasn't the case, Perdue would have won in regulation and no one would have cared about the runoffs.
  7. Putting these billboards on I-90/94 anywhere north and west of Madison would enhance his standing with the electorate.
  8. Which makes it all the more important to get DC statehood into the works sooner than later.
  9. An interesting potential outcome in Minnesota if no maps can get done by next February: a statewide battle royal. No doubt wishful thinking, as the courts have drawn every Congress and Legislature map since 1960. But it's a fun what-if.
  10. Well, the same guy who ran for AG is taking another run at Keith Ellison. Considering he couldn't beat the weakest link on the 2018 DFL ticket who is an amalgam of every Republican bogeyman out there, I don't think intelligence is a strong suit among the GOP electorate. And to BtU!'s point, there was a giant boat parade on a Saturday in late October on the St. Croix River, the border between MN and WI near the Twin Cities. It didn't win Trump either state.
  11. Some seem to think this clown is the favorite to take on Tim Walz next fall for governor of MN.
  12. The Upper Midwest spent extensive time in the -20s and -30s last week, and there were no wholesale energy outages.
  13. PSA: Trump Tower in Atlantic City, NJ is scheduled to be imploded at 8 AM CST tomorrow.
  14. 1998 NFC Championship. Vikings lose to the dirty birds. 14 year old me was physically sick and broken of my love of professional football, and it remains one of only two times I've been physically sick after a football game. The other: 2003 Little Brown Jug. Chad Henne is still throwing screen passes. The Gophers best shot at Pasadena in the last 60 years, a Metrodome that was full of all Gopher fans, only to watch a 35-14 4Q lead vanish into thin air. Glen Mason never recovered from this fiasco, and one could argue that the Gopher program still hasn't. Honorable mentions include the Bountygate NFC title game, and the last Gopher game in the Metrodome (Iowa 55, MN 0). At least I was sufficiently drunk for the last one that the details of the rest of the night remain hay.
  15. All of this talk about 2024 is assuming that Trump isn't digging ditches and shoveling cow shit on a prison farm in Georgia between now and then.
  16. Fat Bret was only able to do what he did in Madison because King Barry was/is still calling the shots. That's why Gary Andersen left a couple of years later under strange circumstances. Oh, and obligatory:
  17. NBC reporting that the defense will only be using tomorrow to present. If this was a criminal proceeding the defendants should be preparing for a guilty verdict.
