  1. Say what you want about the cheese heads, but they've been crawling through glass to vote Democrat since the spring of 2018. Meanwhile, across the St Croix, the top of the GOP ticket will have a deadbeat dad joining the rapist/felon. Good luck!
  2. Abortion and weed. Abortion and weed. Abortion and weed. If those ballot initiatives in Florida finish anywhere near the 60% required to pass, that's a huge problem for what's left of the GOP elsewhere on the ballot.
  3. One big reason why these Olympics have been a runaway success this time is joy. The last two Olympics have been behind closed doors, run from a ChiCom gulag with them shoving swabs into noses and hauling off anyone who popped hot for COVID, or with everyone in Japan locked up in their hotels. You have to go back to February 2018 in the mountains of South Korea to find anyone who was visibly enjoying themselves. Looking forward to Los Angeles in 2028.
  4. Did I miss the handover? Usually the concert is at the end.
  5. The instant that Obama finished off Hillary in 2008, every Democrat knew that Hillary was going to be the nominee in 2016, baggage be damned. That 2010 midterm had turned out to be even worse than initially figured.
  6. Oof. The ladies are lucky to be tied at the half. They are playing like shit.
  7. I realize that the abortion and weed ballot measures are not going to get what they're polling at (both have been polling in the upper 60s). But if they end up anywhere near the 60% threshold for passage, there is a ton of room for growth by both Harris and whoever wins the Senate primary against Rick Scott, and a massive liability for Republicans downballot. For comparison's sake, the Michigan abortion ballot won 56-44 and gutted the GOP at all levels.
  8. I told y'all that if he was the pick, you were gonna love Tim Walz once the word got out about him. Go fuck 'em up, Coach.
  9. The Minneapolis riots may be tried to use as a cudgel, but Walz had the Guard called up as soon as state law allowed him. Unfortunately, city management had to ask first, and by the time they did shit had gone totally sideways. Speaking of the Minnesota Guard, someone tried to Swift Boat him in the deep stretch of his 2018 campaign, by falsely accusing him of rank embellishment. The Guard rather quickly put a halt to this attempt. Unfortunately, this is the case. MN-1, the USHoR district he won in the 2006 blue wave, has gotten really, really Trumpy. I know several farmers who are in that district, and to a man they think he's a liburrl poser. Then again, most of them also think that the tax dollars subsidize the city slickers. The reverse is actually true.
  10. ...and the winter before had the second-most snow ever recorded. Even if you include the Fort Snelling pioneer records. It started snowing in mid-November and that shit didn't stop until April. Sorry, but it's too fucking hot in KC.
  11. Apparently the beam final was a complete train wreck. Floor final up now. Biles and Chiles up shortly. Andrande was terrific.
  12. Obligatory Those of you that didn't grow up in the upper Midwest are fortunate enough not to have been subjected to a Menards spot in every commercial break since 1980. Tim Walz is a damn fine governor and would be a terrific VP. Given the baggage that's coming out on Shapiro, I'd be shocked if it's not Walz.
  13. I'm watching the replay of the womens road bike race. When Faulkner made her move at the end, why didn't the other chasers immediately try to run her down?
  14. Watch the medal ceremony of the heavyweight judo from earlier today. It's cool to hear a jacked up French crowd belt out La Marseillaise.
  15. 13:23 for the first 5K. These guys are going to be 7 minutes+ faster for 10K than the fastest I've ever drug my ass through 5K. Pace slowing down here on lap 21, but don't expect that to keep up.
  16. One minor correction. And if you read the NYT article on Suni, she really fought through some heavy shit to get back to the Olympics. You're goddam right that's America.
  17. Of all the excellent options out there for the VP pick, that may be the worst one of the lot.
  18. Beats hell out of a deconstructed hamburger, and then throw in a Red Stripe.
  19. It's really strange to see such a huge gap between Trump/Scott and the no side of the amendments. The Michigan amendment passed 56-44, and it swept the GOP completely out of state government. Then again, this is Florida we're talking about.
