  1. Not sure where he's getting those pictures and video, but that video is old enough to draw Social Security. On an aside, has it already been seven weeks since George Floyd was killed? JFC, this feels like a year.
  2. Meanwhile, back on topic, you shouldn't be hearing much from either camp about the case itself anytime soon. Gag order put on by the judge.
  3. Those pimping Minnesota as competitive are the same people that don't realize that the tax money goes out of the Twin Cities, not into it. They've controlled chambers of the Legislature on and off since then, but the last statewide Republican win in Minnesota was 2006. Tim Pawlenty needed A) a liberal third-party candidate on the ballot drawing off 10-12% of the DFL vote, and B) a colossal brain fart by the DFL lieutenant governor candidate 2 days before the election to win. The last statewide Republican win with more than 50% of the vote was in 1994.
  4. 9-0 against faithless electors. Just came over the wire.
  5. Never get involved in a land war in Asia. Never go to court over the lunch hour. Never get in a social media squabble with AOC.
  6. The four officers made their first appearance in Hennepin County District Court today. A thread: Interesting stuff. Gag orders and change-of-venue motions abound. First trial currently on the slate for March 2021. Lou Raguse is a good follow, sounds like he's going to be in the courtroom for as long as this takes.
  7. Citizens United, Shelby County v. Holder, and Hobby Lobby all beg to differ.
  8. MPD is getting somewhere. Didn't Dallas PD do this a few years ago after a rash of excessive force incidents where the badge cam was conveniently broken?
  9. Yup, that's the name. I think they've got more billboards on 94 between MSP and Chicago than just about any other advertiser.
  10. In another time, he would be forced to resign.
  11. Meanwhile, back in Minnesota... I guess Paul Gazelka really doesn't like his chamber of the Legislature under Republican control.
  12. Presser happening now at Minneapolis City Hall by the chief. He's live tweeting.
  13. If Moscow Mitch is sweating out a photo finish, the GOP has already lost the Senate and is trying to conduct damage control.
  14. The best Senate candidate to be recruited into the chamber in a long time vs. a very unpopular incumbent who lost in 2018 and only became the incumbent when she was appointed into McCain's seat after his death. Trump is being dragged down by this. Also, unlike in 2016, there is no lack of enthusiasm on the left. See the special election in Wisconsin on April 7. There seemed to be a strong undercurrent of "I'll crawl through glass to vote".
  15. Which Senate race will have the smallest margin of victory? North Carolina at 12 cents seems like a steal. Also, not sure why Montana is also 12 cents. Democrat to win Kansas Senate is 27 cents. If Kobach wins the primar, this has serious buy-low sell-high potential. If you're bargain hunting, Minnesota to vote blue at 76 cents, Arizona 62 cents, and Wisconsin 61 cents. Thank you for the discount.
  16. Bail set at $1M for Chauvin, $750K for the others.
  17. I don't know much about murder. Should we be concerned Ellison is shooting to high? Is he gonna go all the way for 2nd Degree Murder only for him to get off? Similar to what happened in Baltimore? Here is the MN statue for murder 2. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/609.19 I think Ellison is going for item 2, subs. 2 (2) causes the death of a human being without intent to effect the death of any person, while intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict bodily harm upon the victim
  18. Breaking: Charges upgraded to murder 2. Other 3 officers on scene charged with aid and abetting murder 2. Presser later this afternoon.
  19. The GOP brought their clown show to St Paul in 2008, hoping that it would be the deciding factor in Minnesota's 10 EVs and the razor-thin Senate race between Norm Coleman and Al Franken (the one that went to a recount). It didn't work.
  20. For their part, the Minneapolis City Council seems ready to put MPD's shit on blast.
  21. The other 3 cops have yet to be charged. Per Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, 4 days (Monday afternoon through the arrest Friday) is the fastest his office had ever charged a police officer. AG Keith Ellison has taken the lead on the investigation.
  22. Could Minnesota go for a Republican? Sure. Will they have to burn the party down, flush out anything that has to do with Trump, and start over from scratch before they do? Yes. Tim Walz has built up a lot of support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last Monday he was in the upper 60s for approval. I will be very interested to see what happens to that after there riots. For a data point, the last Republican statewide win was Tim Pawlenty's second election in 2006. He got 1.028M votes, which was 46.7% of votes cast. There was also a 3rd party candidate in the race that drew 6% and change, mostly from the Dem column.
  23. In an avalanche of shit, occasionally there's a pearl.
  24. Calling Bob Kroll shit is an insult to shit. For those of you who don't know of his long and sordid history, City Pages has gladly put it all together for you.
  25. Bob Kroll and the MPD union finally break a week of radio silence. File this under T for tone deaf.
