  1. No one is sleeping on the Senate, but this map is absolutely hideous. Defending in Ohio and Montana to hold a 50-50 split? Yuk. The only place to play offense is Florida, and that's because of the abortion referendum maybe having enough coattails to pick off Rick Scott. Cal Cunningham's inability to keep his pants zipped up has proven to be incredibly costly.
  2. Tories are heading for a paddlin'...
  3. The Germans have been doing that for 80 years, and they still can't completely clean out the rot. Somewhere around 1740, Grandpa GR would come ashore in the American sector with his artillery unit, and would alternate between sending arty shells and .30-06s at the krauts from Normandy to the heart of Germany. Two Bronze Stars. Never told a soul about any of it until the day he died. We didn't learn about any of it until we read his DD214. Somewhere in my house is a picture of him with his unit in the Ardennes Forest in February 1945. Watching the replays of the ceremonies, and dammit it's getting dusty in here.
  4. The chief of the IDF already loudly proclaimed that Bibi has no strategic goals for the Gaza fiasco. Cleaning out Hamas in an area, then not having anything to replace them with so Hamas shows back up. As I said earlier, this whole fiasco must be viewed through the lens of Bibi holding onto power. And unfortunately, there aren't enough votes in the Knesset to force an early election.
  5. Remember how salty Michael Malone was after the Game 7 loss? One reason he was so mad is that you could hear the Wolves celebrating over his presser. Someone didn't think this through.
  6. Ladies and gentlemen, the Minnesota Republican Party! Amy Klobuchar has been an excellent Senator. It doesn't hurt that her seat has come up in blue wave environments. 2006: Dubya dragging down Republicans across the map. Gets elected despite being on the same ballot that elected Tim Pawlenty to a second term. 2012: This ballot had Obama at the top, and the anti-gay-marriage and Photo ID Required constitutional amendments. Both measures are rejected, with Obama and Klobuchar's blowout wins 2018: Blue wave. Klobuchar re-elected, Walz elected the first time. 2024: See the above Tweet. The only time the GOP has sent out a legitimate challenger was 06, with sitting Rep. Mark Kennedy. Otherwise it's been nothing but rotten, ends-blown-out tomato cans.
  7. She's not out of VP at all. If anything, this whole business is making her the favorite. Remember what Trump thinks of dogs.
  8. The primary financier of the Minnesota GOP since 2012 is currently serving 21 years for sex trafficking. A Republican should actually win something here for this state to still be considered purple. They haven't won shit since 2006.
  9. Only if you're working 7-12s at the meat processing plant.
  10. Saw it last night. Fun as hell, and worth going to the theater.
  11. 60. IMHO this measure passing would be the biggest upset of the cycle. The bigger question: Does the abortion ballot measure have enough coattails to knock off Trump or Rick Scott? I could buy Georgia going back to Trump, if for no other reason than I'm skeptical of a state in the deep Confederacy voting for Biden twice. But Arizona isn't going red.
  12. Cyrus Northrop was the president of the U of Minnesota long before either Jack Northrop or Leroy Grumman founded their companies.

And a reminder that the best deals are the ones in which all parties walk away thinking they got taken to the cleaners.
  14. Another thing the White House needs to be pounding the drums on. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/joe-biden/biden-administration-plans-reclassify-marijuana-easing-restrictions-na-rcna149424 The DEA signed off on it. Exact timing is unclear, but the wheels are moving.
  15. Abortion abortion abortion. This is a big reason why Arizona is going to stay blue, and is one of the two big question marks for the presidential. 1. The Republican nominee for governor in NC makes Roger Taney look like an abolitionist. If the Democrat wins governor by daylight, does he drag Biden across the wire there? 2. Abortion on the ballot in Florida is unlikely to get the 60% needed for passage. However, does this ballot measure crank up blue turnout enough to spoil the party for Rick Scott and/or Trump? Florida is also the only spot on the board for the blue team to try playing offense in the Senate (sorry Texas, but if Beto couldn't get rid of Cruz in 2018, it's not happening now), so resources will not be a problem. My pick: same as 2020 except Biden wins North Carolina.
  16. I don't get the timing, either. I've also read that over the winter, there were a couple of by-elections where Israel somehow became the focal point, and they resulted in a third party winning the seat. Maybe the thought is to use that result and somehow end up with a hung Parliament with them as the largest bloc, and form a coalition government from there. But if that was the thought, why didn't he call the election then? On an aside, I feel that there is more knowledge of the Westminster style of Parliament in this thread than in much of the US combined.
  17. Folks, we all know what Donald Trump thinks of dogs. The only thing this did was ensure that she's the VP pick. In the modern Republican Party, cruelty is an asset.
  18. The reason why the people around him have tears in their eyes is because he smells like he got run over by a herd of sheep with diarrhea.
